Carl,
Thank you for taking the time to post this information. I found it very helpful and I am sure others will too!

I would hate to have this information get buried in this thread. Would it be possible to post it as a resource somewhere?

I have kept Lavender Jane Doe's artistic likeness imprinted on my mind with other faces of the lost, forever searching for the girl with the golden smile.

Tonight, I just might have found her. That's more a hopeful statement than a bold one. I have yet to match anyone to anyone. Sigh. So please tell me what you think, and if I should submit it.

The Doe Network:
Case File 1922DFTX

1 Age-Progressed
Right : Progressed to age 25 years (circa 2010)

Michelle Lois Prasek
Missing since December 19, 1997 from Spring, Montgomery County, Texas
Classification: Endangered Missing

Vital Statistics

* Date Of Birth: April 12, 1985
* Age at Time of Disappearance: 12 years old
* Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'3" (160 cm); 135 lbs (61 kg).
* Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Shoulder length blonde hair; blue eyes.
* Marks, Scars: She has a birthmark on the palm of her hand.
* Clothing: Last seen wearing a tan t-shirt with the initials CK, blue jeans, and Nike tennis shoes.
* DNA: Available in CODIS

Circumstances of Disappearance
Prasek was last seen by her mother at 7:30 in their home in Spring, Texas on December 19, 1997. This was less than an hour before she was to leave home to get on a bus for school. Michelle may have been on the school premises that day, but she did not attend classes. She was a seventh-grader at Knox Junior School in The Woodlands.
The next day Michelle's mother reported her missing to local authorities in Montgomery County, Texas.
Michelle had reportedly quarreled with her mother about shopping plans.
Michelle has had no prior history of running away and no trouble with the law or school. She was a good student academically. Michelle's parents are divorced and, prior to her disappearance, she was looking forward to spending the Christmas holidays with her father in Kingsville, Texas. The family including another daughter moved to the Spring area near the Woodlands from Louisiana in September.

Michelle may have a sleeping bag, a handmade patchwork quilt, $20 in cash and her orange Tabby cat with her. She may have left the state. The girl's mother first thought Michelle might have spent the night with another girl.
Foul play is suspected in Michelle's disappearance.

The UID was discovered in 2006 and Michelle went missing in 2007.

In that case, I like this potential. When I first looked at the pictures I was like YES!! Seems unlikely she'd have been out there alive with no word for that long (especially starting at age 12), but stranger things have happened, and they do look very similar. The long time between would account for the weight difference, as I doubt a 5'3" and 135 pounds is fairly chunky for a 12 year old, and would be hard to maintain if you're living on the streets. Does seem like she ran away if her cat just happened to be missing, too.

That's a very close facial resemblance. Broad temples, narrow eyes, turned up nose. Everything lines up very cleanly.

The problem with this one is that the UID and Michelle are both in CODIS (according to DoeNet). So it presumably would be a CODIS rule-out by default.

Carl, could it be a question of nuclear DNA submitted for one, and MTDNA submitted for the other that could be the reason why they weren't matched up?

I will call Kilgore and Montgomery to verify they are both in CODIS and with like kind of
DNA submitted.

I'm updating this thread to add the NAMUS link because I don't see it listed here. NAMUS doesn't have the photos or the clothing listed, but date, location and other particulars suggest it's the same person.

NAMUS lists three rules outs: Amber Cates, Tammy McCormick, and Donna Riggsby.

This girl was added to DoeNetwork today.

She was already in Charley Project, but when I saw her photo, it immediately reminded me of Lavender Doe.

* Both Jennifer and Lavender Doe have similarly wide temples and very broadly shaped faces. The relative spacing of their eyes, nose and mouth are very similar too.
There is a six-year lag between her disappearance and Lavender Doe's death. She would have been 22 years old by then - still within LD's estimated age range.
* Her height (5'3") and weight (120 - 130 lbs) are consistent.
* She is apparently a voluntary runaway, possibly headed to Florida from Tacoma WA. So the possibility that she ended up in Texas is not too much of a stretch.

According to DoeNet, there is no DNA profile available for Jennifer, so we wouldn't have a CODIS rule-out by default.

What hit me right off the bat were the prominent cheek bones!

Carl, did you ever hear anything back about this girl? Her likeness is spot on.

I never called it in.

ETA: I just kicked off an e-mail to Meredith Houff of NCMEC and Steven Kurtz of the Dallas County MedEx office.

Here's another girl with a very similar facial shape:

Kyanja Kera Vanwey

Positives:
  • Facial shape is very similar, except that she has a bit more chin than the recon.
  • Reddish hair with blonde streaks, just as is described of Lavender Doe.
  • The lower end of her height range (5'5" - 5'6") overlaps with the upper end of Lavender Doe's height range (5'3" - 5'5").
  • Her age is consistent.
  • The timeline (Sep'05 to Oct'06) is just over a year.

Negatives:
  • Weight - She is listed as 165-210 lbs. Much heavier than Lavender Doe's 96-120 lb estimate.
  • Distance - About 750 miles from Des Moines IA to Kilgore TX.

Has Calista Lundy been brought up as a possible yet? She's a little heavy weight-wise, but I think the weight estimate is off anyways because I don't think a woman 5'5" and 120 lbs wears size 7/8 jeans....

From Colorado, but thought she could be heading to Montana, Nevada, or Mexico....so going through TX not a stretch at all.
