Thanks, @Psychic Sleuth! So it could have been something as simple as a person calling the tip line and saying "Search in this area" or as as complicated as someone claiming to have seen, heard or found something LE deemed important.

They would need something more than, "Search in this area", because every nut job in the world would call, getting their kicks watching the FBI send teams into the area.

I don't know how solid the lead is. Maybe there was another crime committed here or something else.....Maybe there is a sex offender with sketchy activity nearby etc.

Based on where they have been searching they must have some vague sort of POI...
They have not crossed I-10..
Lina lives about a mile from 1-10, for some reason they are staying west of I-10.
They were at St. George on Sunday. (The back of St. George is a very quiet, dark wooded, secluded place at night, it also leads into this same creek)
St. George is about 1 mile north of where they were searching today.

If they do have a poi, then it's possible this is based on cell phone data. We saw the same thing in the Vanessa Guillen case.

They didn't send an FBI dive team from Washington on a whim.

Ok so i tried to upload a picture off google maps but it won’t upload a file that large all along bluemel the street that runs along the side of the complex is gated to enclose USAA. There is a creek that passes under the road through a ditch that leads to a pond inside USAA. Someone could walk through the ditch and find themselves on the edge of that pond inside USAA property. It is less than 1/2 a mile from the complex.

It’s not on the KSAT website yet, but the lead story on local news about Lina just now was a man who owns a business that backs up to the wooded area they are searching. He said they saw someone out there the night she went missing with a flashlight, and it seemed like this was the lead they were following and why they are searching that area.
I drove by her apartment building today, and it made me sad. Then I drove right past the wooded area on Babcock hours before they started their search there. :(

I’ll keep looking for the website to be updated.

Is this the area you are referring to, @dajahvu?
Tip: for files from Google maps that are too large to upload to WS, screenshot the map, save it to your photos app, and do a simple edit, (even auto), then save it. That will turn it into a jpeg file that should upload for you.

FBI dive team helping San Antonio police in search for missing 3-year-old Lina Khil
FBI dive team helping San Antonio police in search for missing 3-year-old Lina Khil

I found it. This was the guy who owns the business. I was wrong though—the tip was from New Years Eve, not the night she went missing.

Hesham Werfelli, who owns a business near the latest search area and is a member of the same mosque Lina’s family attends, said someone in the community submitted a new tip at the end of last year.

“I don’t want to say who, but someone reported a tip that around New Year’s Eve. We had a group of us here. We saw someone walking in the back area with a flashlight. It didn’t really click,” Werfelli said.

It sure wouldn’t be a bad idea for the dive team to check that pond while we have them here if USAA would let them.

Lina Sardar Khil's father reacts to latest update in search for missing three year old | kens5.com

KENS 5 captured an FBI dive team member getting hosed off after going underwater searching for the missing girl. The elite squad is working along a creek off Babcock Road. Lina's father was also seen praying near where this special team was looking for his daughter earlier in the day.

The special FBI dive team is from Washington D.C. They flew in on Monday. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said they're following up on a lead that brought them to the scene. It is a little more than two miles away from Lina's home where she vanished. Lina has been missing since December 20.

Chief McManus said they're following up on a lead but wouldn't go into specifics.

"We don't want to leave anything to chance," he said.

Frank Trevino is a volunteer who has been looking for Lina every day. He watched the dive team from a distance.

"I think they are looking pretty deep," he said. At one point the diver did disappear completely into what I think is a deep hole. At this point, hopefully something comes of it."

Just on Sunday, Trevino and several others searched an area on the other side of the bridge less than a mile from where the FBI team looked Tuesday afternoon.

"It is rocky," he said. There is a lot of debris. A lot of the debris gets washed down river. It accumulates. It is pretty dangerous down there."

According to the FBI, this dive team is made up of underwater experts that can find clues and map out scenes. They've got fancy tools and special technology.

<snip>

KENS 5 asked Lina's father through a translator about his thoughts on the developments. He said he didn't know the FBI search was going on, and at one point thought his daughter was found dead. But of course, that is not the case. KENS 5 was also there when an investigator spoke to Lina's father and a translator later in the evening. They were briefed on what happened.

The FBI special dive team plans to resume its search on Wednesday.

It looks like law enforcement is clearing debris right now. We haven’t seen any divers yet. #LinaSardarKhil

This is the kind of thing that needs to be publicized, loud and clear so the community can hear it. If there was someone walking around there with a flashlight the evening Lina disappeared, and that person is innocent of any connection with Lina, they have the opportunity to come forward and clear this tip. I'm often amazed at how many times an incorrect tip comes in, and the person being described doesn't come forward. But then sometimes, they do. "We have located the person involved, and it's not related to the case". That's so helpful.

it is unclear but the quote stated that they saw a person walking around on New Year’s eve? That’s 11 days after she disappeared. Seems pretty random.

ETA, unless they mean that a group of them gathered around New Years eve and talked and someone said they saw someone walking around on the day she disappeared. It is not clear.

Considering that there's a homeless camp back there, it seems pretty normal to me.

We'll see, maybe there's more to it.

Maybe there was a person with a flashlight back there on the night Lina disappeared and they reported it on New Year's Eve....

Who knows....

What I took from that snip is that Mr. Werfelli and at least two others saw something suspicious that night and one of those persons found it so odd they reported it to authorities.

I hope this leads to some answers and yet I hope not. Answers from this lead would probably lead to a deceased baby and I sure don't want that. At the same time, if she met with foul play I want her found and justice for whatever befell her.

You are right, could be completely unrelated to Lina. New years eve, reportedly a homeless camp just across the river, honestly I would expect with a homeless/transient camp on the opposite bank that people at businesses across that river might regularly see activity, lights, hear voices, as a normal occurrence.

Makes me wonder what about that flashlight that night seemed out of the ordinary.

Friday Fan, how do you know that there is a homeless camp back there? Was it reported by newsmedia? Is a camp visible from the street?
