Houston is a COVID hotspot right now. Are playgrounds at parks open? Our local playgrounds were roped off earlier this year, not sure about now.
Good point! Ours in Louisiana have also been roped off since March. I know that the caution tape doesn’t detour everyone, but I can’t imagine the park overflowing with kids.
JMO.

Maliyah Bass was wearing a colorful tank top and shorts and carrying a white pillow case with letter blocks inside when she was last seen on a playground in the complex at 10600 Beechnut St.

“Her mother went inside for just a matter of minutes,” said Kese Smith, a spokesman for the Houston Police Department. She came back outside, couldn’t find the girl and called police, Smith said.

Police searched the area and reviewed surveillance video, Smith said. They found no evidence in the video that Bass left the complex.

2-year-old child missing in southwest Houston, HPD says
So the baby wasn’t seen leaving the complex on foot I guess? If she was taken in a vehicle that would be on video - would like to know the last time she was seen by anyone besides the family.....
We’ve seen this too many times

She was last seen at a park in the 10600 block of Beechnut St., wearing a black tank top with multi-colored polka dots paired with the matching pants and a pair of blue shoes.

Her grandmother cried and begged for her safe return, saying, "She's little. She didn't do anything to anybody."

“Last seen” is from the family right? She hasn’t actually been sighted by anyone other than family?

What is alarming are the cases where very young children have been abducted in broad daylight. Time, and time again we know it only takes a minute or more to abduct a child without anyone seeing or noticing anything.

If she was taken by a pedophile registered or absconded or not known to be one yet...they may have taken or lured her into their apartment.

If they have killed this precious little girl or took her away alive they could have removed her by putting her inside of something else then put her in the trunk of their vehicle to remove her from the premises. If they live there imo they would know where the cameras were.

I sincerely hope this has not happened to this beautiful little girl, but it's a gutwrenching possibilty we have seen happen before.

Has LE said they have camera footage showing every inch of the area of the complex or just at the entrance/exit area? Tia!

I do believe LE thinks this is an abduction.

I pray she will be found safe, and soon.

Lets test this "last seen at the park" statement despite the fact LE says the complex video doesn't show her leaving. (Assuming the video could pick up someone of a childs height).

IF she were at the park, she allegedly had a pillowcase with blocks in it. IF this is true, (big IF), then logic would suggest her pillowcase with the blocks was found there.....

In her interview the grandmother says someone found a toy under the stairs. I’m not sure if she’s referring to the stairs at the apartment complex or stairs like at the playground that you climb up. Either way, per the grandmother, it seems they did find her toy. No mention of the pillowcase.

I had a hard time interpreting what that meant. It might suggest the child was playing in a little cubby area, or perhaps attempting to hide/get away from someone. However, we have no way to know if this rendition is accurate, just like the story about the park.

I haven't heard that much about the mother and the father(?). Do I understand this is a couple living in the apartment with the child? Does anyone know if this is the bio father?

Amateur opinion and speculation

It sounded to me like the grandmother lives with her son and daughter in law (Maliyah’s parents) and Maliyah all in the same apartment.

It struck me as odd that GMa didn't want her face on camera. Maybe that's just me, but it stood out as being odd in a missing child case.

Transcript of the interview with the grandmother-

Grandmother: "I was at home because I stay right up the street with my daughter in law and my son and he say 'Mama, Maliyah is missing' and I said (sons name, which I can't understand) 'What are you talking about?' and he say 'Maliyah's missing' so I tried to get down here. I was able to get down here. I was aggitated because I felt like the police was not doing anything. They did not care. Then I found out that they brought a dog out here 2 to 3 hours later to scent to find my baby. You know, she's a little girl. She's sweet, she's loving and didn't do nothing to nobody. I don't understand why they would take her, you know? I'm just mad because I feel like they're not doing everything to find my little baby girl."

Reporter: "Tell me about Maliyah. For people who are going to see this who are going to be looking for her what was she wearing? How did she look?"

Grandmother: "She had some blue shoes. I think her dad said polka dot shirt. Her hair is kind of in an afro puff, you know and she probably had one of her toys if whoever took her didnt try to throw the toy away because I think they said they found a toy under the stairwell so she's ... This is just too much, you know."

Reporter: "She was playing in this park right here, right?"

Grandmother: "Yes she was playing in the park. You know what they say, she's a happy baby. She's always smiling, she's kind, she's loving and she was just being a little girl, you know. Somebody just came and took her. Just took her."

Reporter: "Is there anything, birthmark, or anything that people should look for? Does she answer by a nickname that people would know?"

Grandmother: "No. If you say, 'Maliyah?' she'll say, 'Yes?', you know, she answers my Maliyah."

Reporter: "But no birthmarks or anything like that on her that you know of?"

Grandmother: "No not that I know of."

Reporter: "But the biggest thing is you just want your granddaughter back."

Grandmother: "I just want my baby back, you know, she didnt do anything wrong. I dont want no hard feelings or nothing. I just want them to bring her back you know? Just bring her back, you know. Oh lord this is just-"

End of interview.

KaylynnCouture, thank you for transcribing!

Baby is gone and “no hard feelings”. . .

My thoughts exactly. Definitely not placing blame anywhere yet, but I am curious who was supposed to be watching Maliyah. By the sounds of it, it was her dad. However, that still raises a lot of questions.

It makes me sad when I see people talking of a two-year-old baby playing at the park or in the courtyard or under the stairs by herself as if it is a perfectly normal thing to leave your child unattended.

Maybe they should be looking on the video for someone carrying a white pillow case? I'm not sure how big the pillow case is, but in our huge ones, I could potentially see it being being enough to hide a toddler in. When my boys were small, they used them to slide down the stairs, and they fit pretty good.

Regardless, we have a 2 yr old that is missing. No video of her leaving the complex, a grandma that swears she was taken, and not a peep from the parents. Im going to throw the BS flag on this one. It stinks of something
