Curious where everyone thinks the status of this case would be without Vanessa's family? I think CID did an awesome job and I think @MassGuy hit on the amount of evidence they had that probably surprised some (paraphrasing- hope I got that right). I also think the family did an awesome job and did the most they could.

I saw some pretty aggressive moves early on with rewards, more transparency than you'll typically see with military, etc...Had there not been a loud voice outside...where would we be? Just curious to those who are more experienced in cases than I

I think CID/LE were working quietly but diligently behind the scenes.
However, that family deserves so much credit for keeping Vanessa in the forefront. It definitely kept the pressure on everyone involved in this case, and I think it made CID/LE work even harder. JMO

I get that. Just hard to believe an E4 was in charge of an Arms Rm. and a soldier/s. They usually promote them to Corporal because that's considered to be an NCO, but is actually the same pay still as an E4. Never ever saw a E4 in charge of a PFC and below. Why they promote them to Corporal. But not surprising I guess considering the Unit.

Perhaps he was recently demoted.

Tim Miller explains the reference to wet concrete at NG podcast at about the 35/37:25 min mark. It's worth listening to for 2 minutes:

He believes VG was killed at the Armory in the AM and kept inside the Pelican plastic tote for 10+ hours before being moved in the even hours (seen by witness).

Tim describes that VG's body was found molded in the concrete. She was placed inside the body bag (by the coroner) encased in concrete with her remains likely having to be chipped out.

In other words, wet concrete had to be poured over her body.

They would have demoted him to Corporal. E4's don't run Arms Rm. I'm going to check because it falls under a Regulation. The military have rules and regulations for reasons. Work there, have access yes, but not the NCOIC of one.

I'll answer my own question. Apparently no one because he was doing what ever he liked, whenever he liked. And then went on to murder someone and cover it up. So who's in charge in that unit? The deceased.

My experience (got out a few years ago) was different. Actually, I don't think I recall ever having someone "in charge" of the Company's arms room being someone other than the Supply Sgt/XO. We had always had a slot for 91F but seemed to be a rare MOS - I was never assigned to an ADA unit though. JME

They're 92Y. And it's not rare. Hard to get promoted because it's so many.

He's probably killed before. I don't believe he became what he was over night. He did all this to calmly and casually, and then went to work everyday like it was nothing being in a space that she worked in daily. Sick.

Body transfer from armory to vehicle was at 8:30pm 4/22/20. Apparently she was in the case in the armory before the transfer.

I totally agree! And it broke my heart listening to Tim Miller get choked up about Mayra begging him for answers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this horrific case. May justice come soon for Vanessa.

So Tim Miller said "freshly-mixed concrete". I took that as it was still fresh-as in hours to days. Did I misinterpret that wrong? I'm sorry for the confusion.

^^bbm I think it's more clear if you listen to TM podcast with NG and that ready mix concrete poured on top of VG's body. This can set in less than an hour.

I think Tim was explaining that wet concrete was poured on top of her, as opposed to her being covered in pieces of concrete or something. It appears the suspects were equipped with all the tools necessary to hide a body (concrete mix, lime, shovel), but did a sloppy job. I think all of this (Fire, burial, concrete) happened at the same time.

Okay, I understand. I guess I thought he would've just said "the suspect(s) poured concrete over the body" versus "freshly-mixed concrete". Hmm.

I believe the term is being used to describe concrete that was made fresh to encase the body the day/ night or soon after rather than blocks of previously-made concrete such as blocks that can be bought in any hardware store. Fresh vs previously prepared.

If the perp(s) acted at night, he was quick and sloppy. Throwing lime in a shallow grave and pouring ready mix concrete (wet, out of a tub) takes little effort. This was no production line of water and mixer.

Fast setting concrete sets in about 20 -40 minutes. I think the intent was to destroy any evidence and not create a tomb. Also, I think dismemberment will likely occur when freeing her from the concrete, and not necessarily that VG was dismembered.

Hopefully, we should know more details in the coming days.

Thank you! An MOS is your Military Occupational Specialty - if I recall correctly, Vanessa is a 91F (Small Arms Repair). 91Y is Supply. In my experience, Supply was always "in charge" of the arms room as far as equipment accountability goes. I'm wondering if AR was a Supply NCO and possibly recently demoted. It seems like I recall seeing a picture of him wearing SGT rank but I could be mistaken.

It’s very possible he was recently demoted. My facts are he was a specialist. My knowledge of him being in charge of the arms room and her superior is from the media/social media. That part may change after the press conference tomorrow.

But luck was on PFC VG's side, when human searchers failed, apparently some ferrel pigs came to her aid to get home.
