Hmmm. Would actual quotes be better than hazy recollections?

What is hazy about CID family and friend interviews?

I agree the professionalism of CID could have been better, but I also see the internal battle CID had to wage at the same time. Hence the Ft. Hood Commander's removal not the head of CID Command.

I feel sorry for the detectives who pled to detain AR after their luminol tests were performed in the AR armory. The aerosol blood spatter like Jennnifer Dulos proving murder and yet were denied.

Looks like the Fort Hood investigations are really gaining ground -- sorry if already posted:

Congress investigates Fort Hood following soldier deaths

Democratic Reps. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts and Jackie Speier of California sent a letter to Army Secretary Ryan D. McCarthy requesting documents and information on the deaths. Lynch chairs the Committee on Oversight and Reform’s Subcommittee on National Security, and Speier leads the Committee on Armed Services’ Subcommittee on Military Personnel.

According to the letter, the subcommittees will jointly investigate if recent deaths ‘may be symptomatic of underlying leadership, discipline, and morale deficiencies throughout the chain-of-command.’

The letter said that according to Army data there were an average of 129 felonies committed annually at Fort Hood between 2014 and 2019, including cases of homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery and aggravated assault.

Army officials reveal new details in Vanessa Guillen case

So Soldiers purposely lied? How did they get it all wrong?

On the night she vanished, three soldiers saw Guillen while they stood by a tree, smoking outside the arms room, Maj. Gen. Donna Martin, the Army’s provost marshal, who heads the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command, told “20/20.
“They filled out affidavits that said they had seen Vanessa at a different time from when she had actually departed the other arms room. So that gave … essentially an instant alibi for Spc. Robinson, even though they had not really known the correct time of when she had actually departed and headed to the parking lot,” he explained. “The trail went cold for about a month.”

Watching it now.
So far, so good. Fort Hood, as it is portrayed on the show, is not showing up too well, IMO.
Her family is shown as very close, religious, and loving.
Now the FBI comes into it. And other search teams.

The witnesses may have seen somebody that was not VG and a case of mistaken identity.

It's also possible they were under the direction of AR and willingly or under threat gave him an alibi. Without learning their connection to the Arms Room, and AR we will probably never know.

MOO

Thanks for the reminder for watching this show. I thought was done better than many cases, and points out how it may take extraordinary efforts of the family, involving congressperson and media etc. to get the ball rolling. I'm glad they did a two hour segment, and the juxtaposition to the other case of the missing man within the segment.

I caught the second hour and the end tore me up, I've been feeling somber ever since (Vanessa's dad wanted to go see Tim Miller so the entire family traveled to his home). They are in the same club that nobody ever wishes to membership.

I am adding to my own post here.
No matter the final details of the Congressional investigation on the
Ft. Hood command climate, since its public knowledge CID mounted an inept response in VGs dissapearance, my solution would be expand the FBI mission structure to provide DIRECT command oversight to the CID for major felonies.
Soldiers should enjoy the same protection as civilians in the matter of internal threats to them that are not related to war fighting.

MOO it is clear that CID could not do their job, first. they believed liars, then they dismissed physical evidence.

By the time the evidence became overwhelming and they realized they had been duped, it was too late, they did not even have the power to detain the suspect in the face of irrefutable proof of wrongdoing.

Also:
Are they prosecuting the soldiers who falsely reported seeing VG in the parking lot?
And the seagent that falsely counted her "present or accounted for" during afternoon roll call?

VG family lawyer
hopefully will keep the pressure up to get those dishonorable soldiers dishonorabley discharged.

Its sickening, three soldiers all signed affidavits they saw her. Who did they see? who looks similar to Vanessa? How were they certain about the time? This delayed the case by one month?

AR just happened to be with an unarmed escort and happened to look at his phone when the media announced it and make a run for it.

If this is how they handle their own soldiers imagine the type of stuff they do to civilians abroad.

Exactly.
Too comfortable, not actually performing duties with integrity.
