When one hears the term school shooting they immediately think of this situation. These statistics are taking into consideration any shooting near a school that caused a lockdown whether a suicide, nearby gang activity etc. I’m surely not the only person that watched KHOU today where they clearly discussed this every thirty minutes.

Everytown for Gun Safety reports there have been 40 school shootings so far in 2018

This is how they define a school shooting - in the building or on campus

The organization defines a school shooting as "any time a firearm discharges a live round inside a school building or on a school campus or grounds."

I suppose for the final authority, we could consult the FBI database on school shootings in the US. Oh, wait. Wasn't a law passed that prevents them from issuing those kind of reports? I'm so old, I remember when the FBI used to keep detailed stats on gun deaths.

Wonder if the governor will declare that all medical costs will be covered by the state. Didn’t the governor do this for the Parkland incident? Otherwise, I would guess victim/family will be responsible for the bill. Sickening!!!

Don’t blame you. Had a friend years ago who was doing her student teaching. One day, while in class, a fight broke out and students were throwing desks across the room. That was her last day of student teaching and she never returned to the field of teaching.

I graduated HS in 1990 and many students went hunting after school. They brought shotguns on the bus and put them in their lockers once they got to school. There was never any issues. I can't imagine that happening now.

It depends where one lives, I suppose. It’s not unheard of in some small/rural towns ‘round here.

No - When HS students brought guns to school back then the purpose was to use the guns to hunt after school and school shootings didn't happen. Now kids are bringing guns to school with a purpose to shoot and kill....these attacks are planned ahead of time and sometimes fully documented in a journal or on SM. What changed?
