Or she was rigged up to make it look like a hanging when it became clear she died from injuries caused by an officer and that the jail staff could be held accountable for not ensuring adequate medical care...

Wow, had not considered that possibility. Good point and good thing a second autopsy will be done - at the very least put it to rest or find out if it's true.

She was arrested for assaulting him. I've never heard of anyone not being arrested for assaulting a police officer.

He was very provoking, unecessarily, ........not how an officer should behave in my opinion.

How does it 'become clear' to a non medical person that she died of a head injury when she was found deceased in her cell?

I can agree that the cop had an ego and an attitude and did not de-escalate the situation. But I think the blame goes both ways. JMO

The thing is, the responsibilities of a LEO and a member of the public are not the same. The LEO is trained and paid to remain civil. Just because someone is being rude is no justification for a LEO to escalate things, pull out a sidearm, and say that he's going to 'light up' a member of the public.

If we were talking about two members of the public in the street, well, sure the blame in such a situation would go both ways. But LEOs are paid and trained to be professionals. They have responsibilities and obligations that private citizens do not -- that is why they are paid. The officer in this case clearly was not professional; by all indications he appears to be a bully who was hoping to have an opportunity to escalate hostility with the woman he pulled over. I hope he is fired; he has no business interacting with the public, and unfortunately, there are far, far too many like him.

As he reached into the car to pull her out, he advised her that she was under arrest, are you saying that she assaulted him before that ?

It's not very hard to do what a police officer tells you to do.

The number 1 goal of a police officer is to make sure they get home to their families at the end of the day.

If she is not doing what she is told he has every right to pull her out of that car.

But the dog’s owner became combative, and officers then tried to arrest her. She resisted and then burned one of the officers with a lit cigarette, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The woman was eventually taken into custody and the officer suffered minor injuries.

Never even thought of a cig. being used as a weapon. Thanks for providing an example, katydid.

I'm not arguing that some cops are over the top or bullies ; just that I've been lucky enough in my life to have never encountered a LEO that's like that.
It's like one bad cop makes them all look bad, and it's sad people think that way, but that's life.

Not sure what to think about this case. What if S. B. had just put out her cigarette ? Would she have walked away with just a warning ?

Off-topic ; but this is why I feel some cops are on edge and over react. (NOT excusing bad behavior, though) :

Scott Lunger, a San Francisco Bay Area police sergeant, was shot dead early Wednesday
He was killed by the driver of a white pickup that he stopped after he was driving erratically

:( RIP, Ofcr. Lunger , my condolences to his loved ones !

According to CNN she was a cutter and had multiple marks on her one arm.

According to reports he had planned on just giving her a warning but she had to run her mouth and make things worse.

Ok they have uploaded the orig long video, I guess it have issues orig loading to youtube from the TDS,
http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-texas-new-sandra-bland-video--20150722-story.html#page=1

Officer goes to the Passenger side of veh, @2:31, @2:49 he explains why he stopped her, asked for her DL, reg and insurance, then ask "whats wrong?" @3:16 "how long you been in TX? SB> Got here yesterday...@3:32 he asks if she has a DL... she says I didnt give it to you, he says No Ma'am... I cant understand what she says, but he says "your ok" (I think that she thought she gave to him)

840 he walks back to her car, "ok ma'ma, ... you ok SB> I waiting on you this is your job, Officer, you see very irritated.. SB I am , I really am ... she goes on to tell him what she did and why, then tells him but that doesnt stop you from giving me a ticket ...he asked her if she was done, she tells him, you asked me what was wrong and I told you. She mumbled something, he asked her to put out her cig, Please, she asked him why she had to, she could smoke in her car went downhill from there.... ** no he asked her if whats wrong when first stopped, when he went to passenger side. When he returned he asked "you ok"....She evidently had something wrong for him to ask her that when he first walked up on passenger side.

Like I said, 'it appears' -- it is my opinion. Why else would he choose to escalate things, time and again? He did not deescalate anything, ever. And the traffic stop was over the driver's inconsequential failure to use her turn signal on a road with little traffic.

He pulled his gun and threatened to 'light her up' when she had said or done nothing to threaten the officer.

Does that not say 'bully' to you? Do you think he kept repeatedly escalating the situation because it pained him to do so, or because it satisfied his ego and authority? What purpose did it serve in a professional arrest? I haven't heard one LE authority defend him yet.

First autopsy said to be defective, family has been requested by Waller County Assistant District Attorney to return her body so a second autopsy can be done by authorities. Lawrence O'Donnell show just now.

Family Attorney said it would be a third autopsy (family independently obtained a second autopsy results of which are not yet available).

She'd done nothing wrong and he couldn't let it go. I think he was a bully looking for a fight.

"I will light you up." A "bow to my authority or I will make you pay" threat.

Yes! Exactly! Exactly what a guy says when he beats up his wife or gf. She MADE him do it! Not his fault. No way. She's running her mouth. Light her up!

The video contradicts the officer's written police report.

He is worse than just a bully, IMO.

Another ADA from Harris County, I think, contacted by Joy Reid is saying that the text sent to the family about returning the body is actually about some parts left inside the body that shouldn't get embalmed (or something like that).
