I am appalled that there seems to be a culture of carelessness, lawlessness and intimidation at this base. It seems to me that there is little structure and understanding of how to help these young people practice personal safety (during down time off base), understand the issues that are present with drug and alcohol use, understand the illegality of pressuring/forcing/coercing their peers or subordinates for sex, and deeply appreciate the consequences of these behaviors. I would never want my child to enlist and be placed on this base.

Army definition
"120: Abusive Sexual Contact is defined as: ... (B) any touching or causing another person to touch, either directly or though the clothing, any body part of any person, if done with an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person. Touching may be accomplished by any part of the body."

Who is in charge?
This citizen soldier was already a buck sergeant. MOO think it has to be higher rank that did it to him.him.Maybe and now maybe driven to suicide.

Why would EF need to change units? Move the harrasser till formal courts martial and bust the cronys.

Tim is on the job....

TEXAS EQUUSEARCH JOINS SEARCH FOR MISSING FORT HOOD SOLDIER

Texas EquuSearch is joining the search for another missing Fort Hood soldier.

Thursday night, Killeen police asked the public for help in finding Sgt. Elder Fernandes, 23. He has not been heard from by his family since Monday, Aug. 17, police said, when family members told them he was last seen by his staff sergeant.

His car with his belongings was found on post. He had just signed a new lease but never picked up his keys, according to his aunt, Isabel Fernandes.

"This is very, very unusual. He has been in touch with us since last week. I personally spoke to him Friday morning. He spoke with his mom this past Sunday and he promised he would call on Monday," Fernandes told ABC13. "Monday came and went and he didn't call, and he didn't answer calls from anyone else. Tuesday, no calls and my sister ended up flying down there yesterday, and still we haven't heard from him.

Tim Miller of EquuSearch will fly there tomorrow, he said. A search is being planned for Saturday.

I just heard about it. I’m so glad Tim is going. If this young man can be found, there’s a very good chance he will be with Tim on the case. That man is an angel who’s been through Hell. JMO

So is Ft Hood revealing itself or military bases “normal” atmosphere. ( The sexual assaults.)
Harassment’s etc.
I don’t expect anyone to know the answer.
Sexual assault of a sergeant seems way way out there to me. Why was he removed to another company? The harrasser should be moved.
Where the hell is the fort commander?
I hope EF is alive.

Sgt. Elder Fernandes part of 'abuse sexual contact' investigation | kcentv.com

The post says a sexual assault response coordinator was working with Elder Fernandes and that he was transferred from his unit to protect him from retaliation.

FORT HOOD, Texas — An open investigation of "abuse sexual contact" involving missing Fort Hood soldier Sgt. Elder Fernandes was confirmed by the military post Friday evening.

"The unit sexual assault response coordinator has been working closely with Sgt. Fernandes, ensuring he was aware of all his reporting, care, and victim advocacy options," Lt. Col. Chris Brautigam, Fort Hood public affairs officer, said in a statement. "The unit also facilitated his transfer from a unit who has recently deployed to a different unit within the brigade to ensure he received the proper care and ensure there were no opportunities for reprisals."

“We are very concerned about the welfare of this soldier and first and foremost we want to ensure he is okay,” Christopher Grey, spokesman for CID, said in the release.
I’m very concerned as well- I’m afraid Tim is going to find him in some field ...

I am so sad for him. Being close with some male victims of SA myself, there is a special kind of shame that comes with being a male victim (not worse than being a female victim, just different) because of toxic masculinity and social expectations etc.

Missing Fort Hood soldier was victim in 'abusive sexual contact' investigation, Army says - CNN

Lt. Col. Chris Brautigam, a 1st Cavalry Division public affairs officer, told CNN in a statement that there is an "open investigation of abusive sexual contact" involving Sgt. Elder Fernandes and confirmed that Fernandes was the victim in the investigation.
"The unit sexual assault response coordinator has been working closely with Sgt. Fernandes, ensuring he was aware of all his reporting, care, and victim advocacy options," Brautigam said. "The unit also facilitated his transfer from a unit who has recently deployed to a different unit within the brigade to ensure he received the proper care and ensure there were no opportunities for reprisals."

  • in the Army for almost four years.
  • supposed to call her after he got discharged from the hospital Monday but never did.
“So on Tuesday, early in the morning, I called his supervisor. His supervisor told me he was about to call me and tell me Elder never reported to work,” said Ailina.
  • last seen by members of his unit Monday at a home in Killeen.
  • vehicle was found on post in his unit's parking lot.
was having problems in his unit. “He's been in Texas for seven or eight months. He was just having some issue lately inside his unit,” she said.

If the culture of the base is as bad as it seems, Sgt. Fernandes getting transferred to a different unit (to get away from his abuser) might be seen as a snitch or non-loyal. Was there friends of his abuser in his new unit? Was this young man afraid that his new unit members would see him as less than given that he had accessed Behavioral Health?

I am worried for him as male survivors of SA are at great risk but even more so given the way things seem to be handled for soldiers at this base. Now, the world knows that he was assaulted or abused so he may be more at risk.

I hope he is found alive soon.

He was just getting out of the hospital? For abusive sexual contact? Damn it, get a commander in there.

ITA! This is so concerning. I guess he could’ve left on his own due to the stresses of the situation, but I doubt that’s likely. Could he have been overwhelmed enough to take his own life?

I can’t understand what is allowed to go on there.
