I don't understand the delay in charges here. I've seen other cases where they simply charge all involved with capital murder, regardless of who actually pulled the trigger. What's the problem here?
Praying for justice for Shavon!

Woman arrested after Lancaster teen's slaying gets 4 years in prison on federal gun charges | Crime | Dallas News

Two days before Shavon was reported missing, Kendall Perkins stole $150,000 worth of drugs from Fields, Devontae Owens and Polley at a Motel 6 in Lancaster, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Police documents said Shavon was kidnapped "in retaliation" for a June 26, 2017, drug robbery. Perkins is the boyfriend of Shavon's cousin.

The charges stem from a May 2017 purchase at DFW Gun Range. Polley bought an FN "Five-seveN" handgun from the store and claimed she was buying the firearm for herself, documents show.

Officials said she actually bought the gun for her boyfriend, Darius Fields, a convicted felon who is not legally permitted to buy firearms.
And she only got 4 years?

Wow.

Feds plan to use murder evidence against suspect in slaying of Dallas girl even though he hasn't been charged | Crime | Dallas News

Three men have been charged in Dallas County district court with aggravated kidnapping in connection with Shavon’s abduction and are awaiting trial. But no one has been charged in state court with her July 2017 murder -- over stolen drugs she had nothing to do with.

But the feds have other ways to hold Darius Fields accountable. They convicted him on unrelated firearms offenses last year. And they plan to introduce evidence of his involvement in Shavon’s murder during his sentencing this April, when they will ask a judge to give him the maximum possible penalty under the law of 25 years in prison.

It’s called “relevant conduct.” It’s a unique feature of federal sentencing law, and it can tack on many years to a sentence.

Relevant conduct is highly controversial. Critics call it an unconstitutional short-cut. That’s because during sentencing government prosecutors can introduce evidence of a crime the defendant was never charged with. A judge alone decides if the person is guilty -- typically in one day and based upon a preponderance of the evidence.

Without the murder evidence, Fields, a 28-year-old violent felon and drug dealer, faces nine to 11 years in federal prison for the firearms convictions, according to his attorney.

.... very lengthy article and a very comprehensive read.

I hope he gets the max and that they’re eventually able to charge them ALL with murder.

Alleged mastermind of a 13-year-old girl’s killing faces justice -- but it’s not a murder trial | Crime | Dallas News

Shavon Randle was found dead along with Micheal Titus.

It was revealed today:
Titus murdered Shavon in a Dallas drug house in a panicked cover-up attempt, Rohack said during his testimony.

As Titus cleaned the floor with bleach, Fields' bodyguard, Laquon Wilkerson, shot him in the head twice, Rohack testified. Wilkerson has not been charged with murder.

Since Titus is dead, no one will ever be charged for her murder.

A man arrested after the death of a teenage girl faces sentencing Friday but not for her murder. No one was ever charged with that.

The sentencing hearing for Darius Fields is scheduled to resume at 9:30 a.m. It began in April with some testimony but was then reset.

Prosecutors argue Fields’ actions led to the killing of 13-year-old Shavon Randle. He was found guilty on three weapons charges last April.

Investigators believe things all started when drugs were stolen from Fields’ girlfriend, which led to Shavon’s kidnapping in retaliation and ultimately her death.

They don’t believe she was the intended target. But she was the only one home when the kidnappers arrived. She was then killed and left in an abandoned Oak Cliff house in July of 2017.

Another man, Michael Titus, was also found dead in the home. Investigators believe he killed Shavon then he was killed as a cover-up.

None of the people arrested in connection to the crime were actually charged with murder.

Fields faces up to 25 years in prison. Federal prosecutors are trying to add more time to his sentence.

Man connected to Lancaster teen's death to be sentenced

I just came to post the same thing!

A Dallas County grand jury on Thursday indicted Desmond Jones, Devontae Owens, Laquon Wilkerson and Darius Fields on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, a first-degree felony.

The new indictments describe a conspiracy to kidnap and murder 13-year-old Shavon. They are the first charges officially connecting someone to Shavon’s murder. Previously, there were only charges for kidnapping, firearm violations and drug possession.

Bump for something resembling justice or at least a step in the right direction, damaging the gang structure. Gang activity really diminished during the 00s and it's starting to trend upwards again, perhaps proliferating through social media. I hope that the FBI has as active a cyber task force as the CIA but I doubt it.

Watch live: Trial resumes for man accused of kidnapping Shavon Randle

Prosecutor Jennifer Falk said Shavon was kidnapped in retaliation over $250,000 worth of marijuana.

She said Shavon died for no reason.

"You are going to learn she was run out of the home, she was put in the back of the car, that she had her hands bound behind her,” Falk said.

Jones is the first of multiple suspects to go on trial in Dallas County in connection with Shavon's disappearance and death. No one has been charged with murder in Shavon's death.

In court Monday, prosecutors played audio of an FBI interview with Jones where he admits to being the lookout when Randle was taken from her aunt's Lancaster home.

“They put like a thing over her face,” Jones says in the audio.

“Like a bag or a blindfold?” asked FBI special agent Mike Mahan.

“A pillowcase,” Jones said.
Prosecutors say Jones led the FBI to her body and to the body of Michael Titus, Randle's cousin. Investigators believe Titus stole close to a quarter of a million dollars from Jones and his gang, and they wanted revenge.

“They want their dope back. Either the dope or the money or something bad is going to happen,” Falk said.

Falk said the kidnappers made a call to Randle’s family that said, “Give us our [expletive] or we will kill the girl."

Jones told investigators he was in the home when Randle was killed and heard the gunshots but didn't see it happen. He said she was killed after she saw one of the suspect's faces.

If convicted, Jones faces up to life in prison.

Day 1 of testimony is at above link.

Legal analysis: Trial for alleged kidnapper involved in death of 13-year-old Shavon Randle

The cousin of Shavon Randle testified Tuesday that she didn’t immediately call police after the 13-year-old was kidnapped because she feared the girl would be killed.

After the girl was taken, her cousin, Ledoris Randle, started receiving threatening phone calls.

At one point, the kidnappers called Randle from Shavon’s phone.

“They was like, ‘You better not get the police involved. Bring us our drugs,’” Randle testified Tuesday.

Randle testified that she didn’t immediately call police after the threats started.

“I felt like if we didn’t tell the police, it would help her,” Randle said.

Randle’s family eventually called police and told them about the threatening calls. But Shavon’s cousin didn’t explain why the kidnappers took the girl.

Randle’s boyfriend, Kendall Perkins, was one of the men involved in the drug theft at a motel. She testified that she didn’t tell authorities the full story because she "was scared.”

DALLAS — A Dallas man was convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison Friday for his part in the abduction and killing of a 13-year-old suburban Dallas girl.

Dallas County jurors deliberated for about an hour before sentencing Desmond Jones for his involvement in the death of Shavon Randle. The sentence was deliberated after the jury witnessed an outburst by Jones, whom bailiffs carried from the courtroom.

Earlier Friday, jurors found Jones, 24, guilty of organized criminal activity, which carries a prison term of up to life behind bars.

I’m sorry, but a 13 year old girl is taken, and you’re going to protect your drug-stealing jerk of a boyfriend?? They did not value Shavon’s life- she was essentially thrown to the wolves. If a kid goes missing, you give police ALL the information you have- not try to protect the person that got your cousin kidnapped in the first place. All of this could have been avoided. :(
