Family to observe anniversary of Sheryia Grant disappearance Saturday

Nearly a year has passed now since an East Texas woman, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Though suspects have been arrested and indicted in her disappearance, the whereabouts of Sheryia Grant have still not been determined. She disappeared August 20 of 2016.

Still hurting from the loss of her granddaughter Sheryia, Arnita Grant is haunted by what could have been.

A candlelight vigil for Sheryia Grant will be held Saturday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kilgore's Martin Luther King Junior park.

I saw that the POI for burning the house was from Louisiana.... I don't know if this could by Sheryia but I hope there will soon be a big break in her case.

The Gregg County Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference on Wednesday in regards to the disappearance of Sheryia Grant, a pregnant woman who went missing in 2016.

According to judicial records, in November of 2017, Braeger-Young pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury. She was sentenced to 300 days in jail. Judicial records show the plea was made in abstentia.

Sutton remains in the Rusk County Jail.

Missing woman's family hoping for court justice

Investigators say evidence indicates Sheryia was murdered shortly after she was reported missing.

"I was glad to see the suspects locked up, it was a big relief," says Arnita.

But the family's driving focus remains the same. Where is Sheryia?

"I want to find her body, and the baby and I want justice," Arnita says.

This case is hard to follow sometimes because Young and Sutton were such criminals that they were constantly in trouble in multiple counties. I think the assault was another matter that was already pending, and it may have been Sheryia that was the victim. Sheryia made references to Sutton getting girls to jump her and try to make her lose her baby. However, the charges regarding the corpse and just starting to happen. That is happening in Rusk County and Rusk County does not put very much on their website. You can look up the docket sheets, and on August 6 both Sutton and Young show up on the docket sheet for tampering with a corpse. From Facebook chatter, the speculation has been that she was murdered in Overton which is where Young lived and Overton is in Rusk County.
