Out here, 78 miles in nothing because of how far towns are apart.

I just saw on KVII that the body was in water in a stock tank (and had been there awhile) outside of Gruver. The distance from Gruver to Canadian is about 75 miles.

When KVII puts the info on their site, I will link.

A body, believed to be that of an adult man, was discovered Tuesday afternoon in a ranch stock tank about 13 miles west of Gruver,

Little is known at this point, Davis said, except that the body had been in the water-filled tank for some time, making identification difficult.
Because of the system of cattle movement used by the ranch, the body could have been at the site since as early as autumn, the judge said.

Won't have autopsy results til Monday at the earliest.

agree mom, map shows the area pretty sparse and probably easy to get to on back roads. I don't know what the weather has been up your way in the last 18 months. Wet or dry. Seems like a long time to go unnoticed in a stock tank. Pond or creek or lake yes i could see that. Not sure whether to hope its Tom or not. [emoji52]

Its been abnormally dry. No real snow this winter. Only 4in of rain this year.

Reading online, it sounds like this stock tank isn't checked very often.

Besides Thomas, there is another older gentleman that has been missing from around here since 2017. https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/40627/18/

There's an update: http://abc7amarillo.com/news/local/body-discovered-on-hansford-county-ranch

Even though the body may have been there since October that still seems a year too recent for it to be Thomas. But we'll see -- they're doing an autopsy and may have preliminary results last week.

“They take the cattle off the field in October,” Davis said. “They hadn’t been back out there until yesterday when they were checking the ranch, getting ready to put more cattle out there.”

I think you're right, if they checked the tank last fall, it wouldn't be likely unless someone decided to move him from another place. And I really doubt there would be much left (sorry!) after this long.

Sorry I haven't been around to update the news post from the other day. The flu and strep hit my house.

Anywho - a body has been found on a ranch in Hansford Co. No details on sex, age, etc but I am dropping the link here until we can rule it out as Thomas. This is very close to where Thomas went missing.

According to a YT video on the case, Thomas only decided to quit the team AFTER he was removed from his starting position. Any student would take that as a personal insult and makes it quite clear why he quit. Perhaps his parents were expected to "buy" his position on the team through check writing or aggressive fund raising for the team and chose not to out of a belief in meritocracy? At my daughter's high school, this is "expected" of the parents of every girl on the cheer squad and drill team. One year, the football team even stole the band's fundraising money; the principal and coach were both fired when it was found out. This year, some of the drill team girls and 3 of the officers quit in protest over the direction the team was going, so Thomas's reaction is normal IMO. I can't say I totally believe his disappearance is school related though.

Was Thomas in the habit of locking his Durango at all times? Did he have tinted windows? I believe it's very possible that someone snuck into his car while it was parked at the middle school. They hunkered down in the rear of the vehicle, not seen by Thomas until he pulled away from the gas station and started home. This person then pulled a weapon on him. It could've been a killer just passing through or someone he knew. What I can't figure out is the killer/kidnapper driving around for hours before abandoning the car. That is what makes me think of a stranger. His friends knew his family would be out looking for him right away, since he had such a strict curfew.
