For anyone interested in this case Youtube has posted a 7 minute video which is an excerpt from some documentary with some vintage news footage from 1973.
Just punch in 'Wayne Henley' in the search engine.

Since,August 8th was the day Henley shot Dean Corll and they started digging in the boat shed that afternoon,I would assume that, that's where they were found ,apparently among some of the last killed .
They also found that day James Stanton Dreymala 13,Corll's last victim, who Corll lured to his Pasadena home with the promise of pop bottles to return for the refund money, and Charles Cobble and Marty Ray Jones, two aquaintances of Wayne Henley.
I dont know who all else they found that first day.

Stanton Dreymala played on my baseball team and lived around the corner from me in Meadowcreek in Southeast Houston. I believe me and another friend of mine were the last ones that knew him to see him alive at the Meadowcreek Bowling alley. He asked us if we wanted to go to a party, which we declined. A couple of hours later, a neighbor of his came to the bowling alley saying that Stanton had gotten in an arguement with his father and left home without permission, and we went looking for him. He was not seen again until they found his bicycle and then his body in the boatshed. I still am haunted by what could have happened to us if we had decided to join him.

I was with him earlier in that day at the Glenbrook Pool and he was trying to get me to sneak out with my dads truck that night to go to a "party". I was outside the fence by the baby pool and he was inside. I asked what party, and he pointed out 2 guys I assume were Henly and Brooks. They were standing at the edge of the olympic pool talking to people. I didn't like their looks, so I said no. He was practically begging me to go with him, but I just blew him off after a while. He was a couple of years younger than me so I didn't take him as seriously as I would one of my friends my own age. I went over to that big tree that was behind the pool at the edge of the woods where people used to hang out. That was the last time I saw him.

I have read about this case, quite a bizarre and sadistic occurrence. Dean Corlls mother, Mary West wrote an open letter to the citizens, basically defending her son and stating her belief that Henley was the actual murderer of all the boys. Henleys mother, Pauline, defend him also, didn't read much about where Brooks' mother ever defended him......
Here's a copy of the newspaper with a photo of Henley being escorted to court.

Wow,you guys thanks for sharing your info.
This case has always facinated me.
Its interesting to hear from someone who was actually in close proximity to it.
James Dreymala was as Im sure you know Corll's final victim.
Im not sure if Henley was involved in that one as he was out of town that weekend but I dont remember for sure what day of the week James was abducted on.Wasnt it a Saturday or Sunday?
Ive always been haunted by the part of Brook's statement where he claims he saw him for about 45 minutes when he took him a pizza and that James wanted him to come back.
Its terrible to think what would have been going through his mind at that point.
I had also heard that he had phoned home and asked for permission to attend a party but was told no,to come home.
I imagine thats when Corll grabbed him and shackled him to the Board.
That poor kid never had a chance.
Corll was practically killing someone every week by the time the summer of '73 rolled around .
God only knows how many more would have died if Corll hadnt managed to provoke Henley into killing him.
I see from Google Earth that someone is living in the house on Lamar Drive in Pasadena where James Dreymala,Marty Jones and Charles Cobble, and Homer Garcia, and Billy Lawrence and the boy from Louisiana and God only knows who else were all murdered that Spring and Summer.
That would be a bit much for me.

A&E did a really good documentary on this guy. I just can't remember what it was called.

It was called "Mass Murderers" and it also featured Charles Whitman and Michael Ryan. It will probably be shown again on A&E, The Biography Channel as well....
Nyla4; There's a good (if you can call it that)read here: http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/serial_killers/predators/corll/index_1.html
alot of what was said by both Henley and Brooks is there.

Evil, is all I can say about "The Candy Man" and his cohorts :behindbar

Yeah ,they are all evil but this one has got to be right up there.

HOUSTON (AP) -- A medical examiner in Texas believes she has found another victim of a serial killer who terrorized Houston in the early 1970s.

Sharon Derrick with the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday that the body of Joseph Allen Lyles was identified through DNA analysis. It's been more than 36 years since Lyles disappeared and 26 since his body was found buried on a beach.

I just heard about this.
Ive always been certain Corll was responsible for more deaths then the 27 that were attributed to him.
It is a pretty sure thing this is another victim considering the circumstances the remains were found under and wher the victim lived and the time frame.
I beleive there are more victims in the boat shed in South Houston and High Island Beach as well.

After Kline made a post stating that there were two books on this case and named them I ordered them from Amazon. I read The Man with the Candy but Mass Murder in Houston in 1974 is still in my pile of books I have to be read. I truly think that Brooks and Henley could give the police names of possible identities of who the bodies are.

Thank you Kline for telling me about the book and basic information on this case.

In David's statement he made a nasty comment to the effect that one boy was a nasty person and that no one was going to miss him. Has this boy ever been identified?

Could Brooks and Henley's full statement's be released under F.O.I.A? Or maybe not if these are still open cases? I would be will to shell out the money and share here on websleuths if it is possible to obtain them.

I really hate that these two escaped the death penalty.

Has anyone ever written to either of them? I feel that they have been able to fly under the radar (esp. Brooks) and I wonder if any new information could be gleamed from them.

I posted this in the Jury room but I though others who are interested in this case might find this interesting and new and I wanted everyone to be able to view it. It is news footage of Henley giving an interview, news footage of Henley by a police car while audio of his phone call to his mother after he shot Corll, pictures of Dean's house, interview footage with the Hilligiest family, footage of digs, and more.

There is no mention of David Owen Brooks though and that makes me extremely mad. It seems like he is the forgotten serial killer and I think he may hold the key to the identities of the poor victims and be able to put more information about Corll and Henley out there.

I'm sorry that I have no possibles on the unidentified boys but I thought this was interesting and wanted to share it. Plus, I thought that maybe some of you super sleuthers might be able to pick up on some small detail.

I was looking for matches on DoeNet 1008UMTX, and came across Norman Prater. It seemed like a perfect match.

http://doenetwork.org/cases/1008umtx.html

I checked the WS board and found this thread, indicating that he had been called in, but no indication that he was ruled out. So I called Melanie Schramm of TX-DPS, to see whether he had been ruled out. She said that she hears Prater's name all the time. I suggested that they post their rule-out listings on NamUs, so that they won't keep getting so many redundant call-ins. She replied that she is going to talk to her superiors to see if they can start doing that.

After checking with Houston LE, she replied back that he was ruled out on DNA.

I will post it on the rule-out thread so that at least WS members won't keep calling this one in.

The above bolded by me, here is the answer to that:
NO, I haven't written him myself, but you could, if you preferred, here:
Elmer Wayne Henley Jr.
PO Box 395
Hooks, TX 77561

Personally, I don't think either of these two evil and sadistic sub-humans will give out any information, freely, to anyone! Here is an interview with Wayne Henley : http://www.francesfarmersrevenge.com/stuff/serialkillers/henleyint.htm
Seems Henley has received some advanced education while serving his time! :waitasec:
Also, the documentary is on DVD, it may be purchased here:

I have ordered it, so after I watch it, I'll be back to tell, if any "new" details, I might gleam from the documentary. :detective:

I just found this site yesterday...I am Rhonda's older sister and she is doing as well as possible. She is writing a book now on all of it. and there is an independent movie coming out next year.

Tim Kerley committed sucide just last year. I wish they had of been able to speak with each other before he killed himself. They both shared the same feelings all these years and they probally could of been able to help each other deal with it all this time. Neither one had any counseling/therapy when this all happened to them. Rhonda has been in it for years now. Tim Kerley never had any counseling.

My sister has been writing to Henley for the last few years and she was allowed to visit him. I don't like her doing this, but she calls it part of her therapy.
She is trying to get David Brooks to see her.

She and I have been helping Sharon Derrick try and identify the last unidentified victims. There was a 28th victim's body found about 2-3 years ago. and there are many more bodies still needing to be found.

It has been truely upsetting for us, the news now of the latest mess...Michael Baulch's mis-identification.

Hi everyone: I'm Skip Hollandsworth, a writer for Texas Monthly magazine. I want do a story on how, 40 years later, the Corll killings still have huge, tragic repercussions in Houston and beyond. I would love to talk to anyone who has been personally affected by this case -- family members who lost their boys to the killers, as well as members of families who are still looking for their lost sons or brothers, wondering if they too were victims of the murders. I'd love to talk to relatives of police officers who were involved in the investigation, and I'd love to talk to people who knew Corll, Henley or Brooks. I saw your note, Lynn, and I'd like to see if you would talk further. I also saw your note, Kline, and wanted to talk to you. I promise to everyone I will be very sensitive about how I treat this story. If you want to talk off the record, without me using your name, that's just fine with me. Please contact me anytime at shollandsworth@texasmonthly.com

Skip, I hope you'll post a pointer to the story when it's finished.
