Back in 2009, Peter was in Nairn trying to dig up whatever information he could about the case.

He found himself in a bar after several days of interviewing and when he went to the toilet a Scottish voice from behind him said:

“Don’t turn around, this is all I’m going to tell you.

“It was an in-house job, but we just couldn’t prove it.”

There were police in the bar that night and Peter’s assumption is that it was an officer that spoke to him.

But the tip itself is far from clear. Does in-house mean from within Alistair’s own workplace? His own family? Something else altogether?"

Why do you think Bleksley is a grifter (not arguing with you or anything, just curious as I read his book on the AW case, and know little about him other than that).

Saw the Ch5 doc again last night. Seems plausible that this was done because he reported the pub awning to the council? Seems a huge co-incidence. Why ever did they disclose his name to the landlord though?

Having someone killed because they objected to some decking is very extreme. Names of objectors are usually disclosed as a matter of course. I know of disputes where the name of the objector/complainer is known.

They hadn't planning permission apparently. What happened afterwards? Does anyone know? Did they get it or was the decking taken down? Yes it does seem extreme but Wiki says police think they may have at last found the motive. Why did his wife not tell them about this? Did she not know he'd complained?

Planning applications in the UK are available to the public (including the name of the applicant and the plans). Any objections or other comments are also public and show the name and comment. (Comments are only available for up to 3 months after the decision of the application so AW's comment is no longer viewable)

They applied for planning permission retrospectively and it was granted (this is the application which AW apparently objected to)

People have killed for far less. Road rage etc. Interestingly his wife continued to object after his death!

Road rage is usually a heat-of-the-moment situation. This was a premeditated murder. I just can't see why he would want to have such an extreme measure taken.

The objection to the planning application is really the only thing the police had to go on.

I'm not sure it was a premeditated murder in the sense that the killer came to the door intending to kill AW during their interaction. His wife saw the killer and could ID him. The killer stood at the door talking to AW, allowed him to go inside and talk to his wife, and then when AW came out again something happened between them and he shot AW.

That is not a professional hitman! It sounds like a psychotic person, and so whatever happened would have made perfect sense to the killer, who would have had his own internal logic for whatever he believed and whatever led him to kill AW, but did not make sense to AW and VW. VW does not seem to have a clue what happened or why. If AW felt remotely threatened by the killer he would not have gone back out to talk to him after going to show VW the envelope (which neither of them seemed to understand the purpose of).

It's just so difficult to make sense of. There have been so many false starts and theories and none really work with the existing narrative. Just hope the latest enquiry turns something up. It seems either the police pretty much know what happened but cannot provide it or alternatively they don't have a clue.

Yes, Was a repeat, first on in late 2022 but nothing much has changed since then.
