I was looking at the Street View images of The Ac in Oct 2015 when the pub was in scaffolding, half expecting to see a Transcore sign or van somewhere, I can't see anything. Maybe some of you who is more observant can spot something. I also wonder whether changing the name as part of the refurb (and the revamp as well taking place when it did, Autumn 2015) had anything to do with making up for the bad publicity in 2014.
Well there's a white Astra van in Sep 2008 in the car park. Those Astras get everywhere! Not sure if the one in HR had roof bars and missing hub caps though.

I don't think PH has covered himself in glory as a landlord. Apparently the locals love hearing Come on Eileen played loudly over and over. As you would....
Landlord in court for running noisy pub

cs relationship with a policeman has long been considered a possible motive....if the druggies of the 2 pubs combined, they'd have a lot of options at their disposal, as well as vehicles etc
And an atractivr inconspicuous "drug mule" to carry goods from one pub to the next
I think there has never been a policeMan boyfriend! The police don’t seem they want to shed any light on the subject because perhaps it was a policeWoman all the time ?
Pope comes to mind, old friends ?!
any relation to you @Popejohn3

I would say that whoever walked the alley did for the following reasons:

innocent act of someone going about their everyday business
A stupid perp / dealer
A deliberate distraction

we are told that it was busy for parking that night.
What if the person was looking for a parking space as that had parked on main road and there was no space at Nags ?
Or simply an innocent act ... checking if she was in ... but LATER he got caught in the stream of things .

Good point @keep-it-real! While Ali might have further refined her accent whilst at uni and in her job, CL's was probably similar, certainly not a thick York accent.

And in a conversation between JK and SC inthe 10th aniversary documentary she was said to be funny and at times adopted a stupid little voice

It gives a little more insight into her personality

Are you implying CL was interrogated for her knowledge and ... more important...who did she inform ?

I don't know @Popejohn3 , I just wonder if she got herself into something bigger than herself, linked to criminality, drugs, etc, and maybe, not being particularly street wise, or too trusting, things "spiralled out of control" (quoting JK's dream apparition), so she had to be dispensed of.

Also, like @Andyboy, I wonder how she could live beyond her means. Even if PL bought her the house, going out several nights a week, paying for her own drinks (as reported), and having all those holidays abroad must have been expensive. So either she had amassed huge credit card bills, or she was in debt with other people, or she did 'favours' to friends-of-friends maybe carrying or shifting stuff. Again, speculations, please do not think I have any proof of this. I'm less inclined to think that wealthy men gave her money in exchange for sex. I know, I'm generalising here, but Yorkshire men are not known for splashing money around.

Some people supplement their income by having lodgers ... I’m sure Jen King can answer this : How much did she give CL every week for staying with her for a whole year ?

I agree that PH might have been handsome, albeit in a very roguish sort of way, in the 2000's (and had a distinctive, not-so-stylish fringe), but he definitely looked less so when he was arrested IMO. I've not seen photo of him since and I can't wait for the pubs to reopen so that I can 'drop in my local' for a drink... As for responsibilities, he and his wife have 5 children between them, plus a big pub to run and who knows what else
CL loved "bad boys" (as her sister said, AFAIK) and I count him among this species, without knowing him. ;)

@Yozzer Do we know their new home address? (better to PM me if you know) I only know it's local and a detached house. I'd like to go and take a look.
If you google his name & pub name it comes up under beta.companieshouse.gov (business accounts). A public record so no GDPR issues. I don't like outing someone's home address if it's not already in the papers.

I might remember. this incorrectly....but doesn't tube say that c had a lot of expensive designer clothes, whereas other people say next.

do we know if the drugs people running the. trade at the 2 pubs were connected or were they rivals

Hi, I’ve spent the last week reading all the sections of this thread and learning more about the CL case. York has been my home for the last 25 years and I was working at the University of York (UoY) when CL disappeared. Only recently, however, I have developed a real interest in the case, not least because The Acomb (now Clockhouse) is 10 mins walk from my house and it is still unclear what role (if any) this part of town has played in CL’s disappearance. Whilst the focus has rightly been on Heworth and the NH, I can’t help thinking that some answers could be found in this other ‘complex’ York suburb. I’ve been asking round a few questions, pounding the streets (literally), viewing the area on Street View in years gone by and doing some research online, particularly on those who run the pub. It’s getting a little late now, but I’d be happy to share my findings, however small, in the next few days. The amount and quality of work that people on this thread have done is incredible. I don’t think I can add anymore to the cctv analysis, for example, and I agree with Major and others that people who were close to CL are responsible. But somehow I cannot get out out of my head that after CL was abducted (and probably killed) that night, she might have been taken to this part of town, at least initially.

Welcome ACB, good to have a fresh voice on here with some new theories perhaps particularly as you're on the ground up there so know the layout better than most.

Although I gree it might not have covered all the extra expenditure I think people use the skills they have and as she was a chef its likely she worked on a cash in hand basis catering for people ie celebration cakes and pubs who may have to have cover for short periods when staff went sick or on hol fitting it in with her day job. Im not saying all the trips she made to the acomb area were this but some may have been.
Working in these enviroments she may well have been offered part payment in drinks which might have been attractive perk for her so if she drove their to work there obviously she wouldnt drink and drive home. So subsequent trips to socialise and drink may have been made by taxi. Ineviatably she would get to know the regulars and a single attractive woman always receives interest so its likely she found new scene and new people a refreshing change .
I know we see a pattern similar to that when she started going to the NH but I dont think it was intentional on CL's part its just what normally happens when someone new arrives on the scene
