A series of explosions have been heard and smoke seen pouring out from a building beside the Old Bailey court in London.

Power cuts have also been reported in nearby buildings.

A BBC reporter at the scene said lights flickered inside the Central Criminal Court before it was evacuated, and quoted a firefighter saying there was a fire in the part of the building containing an electrical substation.

London Fire Brigade said in a statement: ‘Firefighters are currently responding to reports of smoke coming from a building on Warwick Lane.’

Firefighters have rushed to the Old Bailey in London after reports of a 'series of explosions' and 'black acrid smoke' from a nearby building.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade confirmed to MailOnline they had been called to the Central Criminal Court shortly before 11am.

Crews currently on scene are checking out 'multiple buildings' on Warwick Lane.

Witnesses said the Old Bailey was evacuated after lights flickered inside.

One witness who tweeted video of the incident wrote on X: 'Series of explosions heard from building next to Old Bailey for about 10 minutes before smoke emerges. Many buildings seem to have suffered power cuts.'

A BBC journalist at the scene tweeted: 'Black acrid smoke coming from rear of Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey - lights flickered inside before it was evacuated - firefighter says fire in section of building where electrical substation sits.'

People have been warned to avoid the area.

The Argus are updating their feed more frequently during this fire alert than they were when the actual trial was in session!
But the standard of journalism is more akin to a report written by a child in infant school.

A large number of firefighters can be seen outside the building where a cordon is in place. Another piece of tape warns "do not cross hazard zone".

The air smells of soldering metal and there are people in hi-vis jackets with "electricity" written on them.

I'm catching up as I didn't realise this trial had started, so apologies if this has been mentioned in the pages I haven't got to yet.

Has anyone noticed the colour of the baby? In the CCTV where she's being put in the pram she very much looks caucasian.

What does that have to do with anything?

If it's a substation fire (as suggested in a screenshot a few posts prior to Skigh's post) the operation of SF6 (Sulphur Hexafluoride) circuit breakers could account for loud bangs. I've heard them operate up-close at a substation training site and they are LOUD. (I used to work in the energy industry).

I was one told by a Afro Caribbean friend that black babies are often very pale looking when born then go darker. I would imagine a mixed race child would be even more so..
