Stewart describes cancer scare
Stewart said he later had a cancer scare, and was convinced to have another operation. I went back into Papworth Hospital and had the same operation. Very annoyingly all it was was scar tissue. It wasnt cancer, thankfully. Myasthenia gravis is quite rare, every time I end up in Addenbrookes Hospital they use me as a demonstration. Stewart said one of his lungs only has 60 per cent capacity, adding compared to my other breathing problems thats not good.
Sounds as though he has had a thymectomy. As much as I don't want to agree, it is probably absolutely true that he becomes of special interest in hospital because it is a rare disease and many/most doctors never see it in a lifetime (other than a neurologist who is the specialist who looks after this disease). It is very useful for young doctors to see exactly what happens. Otherwise they could miss it when they go on to practice. It has happened to me too with the same disease. Why he needs to labour it the way he is, has to be an attempt to impress the jury of his weakness. Most people, I think, would just state the facts about the disease and not elaborate as he has been doing.
