I think it's more likely he knew that he was the beneficiary and didn't realise he'd have to use it to pay the inheritance tax on the rest of his inheritance.

It would be ridiculous to believe that Helen did not tell IS this.
If she died before marriage to him, then he would need the money to pay the IHT.

"We had no secrets"

“I did yes, we knew each other’s pin numbers. We had no secrets.”

Stewart tells court he 'had more money than I could spend' - had been mortgage free for a long time

Overkill springs to mind. Fairly obvious he is attempting to woo the jury. I hope they have their heads screwed on and brain in gear.

Yep! Confabulation again. Makes you wonder if he actually does believe his own lies and paints himself such a convincing picture that he can refer to it in his mind, the version he wants everyone to believe - just doesn't have the good taste to realize how cheesy and unrealistic some of it sounds...

"She would have noticed if I'd put drug in her food"

Defence barrister Simon Russell Flint asks: “Did you administer zopiclone to her surreptitiously in any way, at any time? “No” Stewart answers. “If she put zopiclone in her food do you think she might have noticed this? “Yes”, he said. If it was crushed in her scrambled eggs do you think she would have tasted that? “Yes, she would have noticed instantly as zopiclone apparently has a bitter taste.”

How does he know it has a bitter taste?

I think it says more about him than anything that he is trying to discredit the cleaner's testimony by saying effectively that she's foreign and a bit rubbish at cleaning. She must be absolutely fuming.

His 'bowel worked in reverse'? Ah yes, that explains why he's full of **IT!

Oh *advertiser censored** me that is the best one you've come out with yet Dolly and you've had a load of corkers. Can't breathe.

“She said ‘this is something I might take’ because she was having problems sleeping as well.”

“It was just one little box, but I never even got to open the box. “I didn’t take any zopiclone because Helen is one hell of a reader and she researches everything. “In this case as soon as she saw Helen had prescribed zopiclone she googled this away. “She wanted to know the facts and the facts behind the facts. “She found that zopiclone should not be given to a patient with my health condition. “She took the tablets off me and said ‘you’re not taking those’. “She said ‘this is something I might take’ because she was having problems sleeping as well.” Three days after Stewart was prescribed zopiclone, Helen was complaining of signs of the menopause to a GP, the court was told. “Helen was either too hot or too cold.” Defence barrister Simon Russell Flint asks: “Had you fed her so many tablets that she was suffering with this, or was it something she had for a while? “No, it was something she had for a while”, Stewart answers. “Helen didn’t like taking drugs but she did when necessary. “She sometimes took anti sickness pills when we had a long drive.”

Yes, because one would need anti-sickness pills for a long drive with you...

Standing order attempts

“Did you know anything about two failed attempts to set up a standing order from Helen’s bank account on April 11? Or to change an existing standing order when these attempts failed?”

Stewart: “No, this was nothing to do with me.”

"She liked working on my desk because it was clutter free."

Stewart is asked if Helen ever used his computer, which used Windows 10.

“Helen was a Mac user, but she was going to start a new blog entirely, called ‘And Beyond’, talking about good things rather than bad.

“I was helping put that together for her.

“She liked my computer because it had a big screen.

“I’m always a Windows [software] user, I have been for years.”

“She liked working on my desk because it was clutter free.

“My laptop was an Acer laptop. The laptop wasn’t used as a laptop, it was connected to a monitor.”

"I assume Helen did this [changed the standing order]"

Stewart: “I assume Helen did this [changed the standing order], she was the only person at home.

“I don’t understand why she’d amend a standing order. I can understand the £4,000 amount in some way, the £4,000 she’d allocated on spending on a spare room.

“She was talking about putting this in the joint account.

“I’m not a great user of Barclays bank, but I do have a Barclays account.”

Standing order attempts

Interesting. So he's not even going to blame Nick & Joe for this. He's just going to deny all knowledge of the standing order.

I think it says more about him than anything that he is trying to discredit the cleaner's testimony by saying effectively that she's foreign and a bit rubbish at cleaning. She must be absolutely fuming.

I have this image now of the cleaner, coming back into court, and having words with Mr Ian

I am beginning to think he reads our forum. He certainly could have done until he was remanded and it wouldn't surprise me if he had access to a computer whilst inside. I don't know what prison rules are with respect to remand prisoners - can anyone help out?

could be but all he had to do is read Eileen's testimony from his notes. And he'll have access to other statements via his brief.
to read all our WS points he'd have a difficult job finding them and then have to be at it for hours. I don't think he has that many hours access.

Aha so thats why he came up with the 4k budget. So she transfered that across for her spare room project whilst leaving him the note to say she was buggering off to Broadstairs. Like you would .

"Helen had lots of accounts"

Stewart: “Helen was also effectively going to be funding the conservatory. Helen had lots of accounts and we kept it separate.”

Stewart is now asked about cars in the Royston house.

“Helen had the Jeep and the Fiat, Jamie had a car, Oliver got a car.

“The MG was mine which I bought not long after Diane died.

Interesting. So he's not even going to blame Nick & Joe for this. He's just going to deny all knowledge of the standing order.

seems he'll try and combine it with that US fraud attempt on the paypal and confuse jury but as Mr Trimmer is an expert in long running boiler room frauds over decades, think he'll clear that up for the jury.

'Her little bag with mixed tablets'

Stewart denies these forgetful episodes were down to anything he was doing to Helen, including poisoning her. “Helen was not sleeping well at all. Lots of things really worried her. “After that I never saw the Zopiclone. “Helen had a little bag she put inside her handbag, inside that was mixed tablets and so on. “That’s where she kept medicine she might want at any time, hormone cream. Beta blockers, anti sickness pills. “They were ready with her wherever she wanted.”

Hang on--- this is in spite of previously having said that she didn't like taking any medication - so now she would randomly start taking someone else's medication?! And she also had all these other tablets - IS previously made out as if she only had herbal remedies...At what point, I would like to know, did IS realize they found the traces of zopiclone in Helen's body? Not initially, evidently, when he was making out she didn't like taking medicine, but now that he knows about the traces found, she suddenly likes taking medicines...

Dominic Reynolds Verified account ‏@domreynolds 18m18 minutes ago

Stewart explains they bought 7-bed home in Royston with Helen's money, but in both their names, on accountant's advice.

Dominic Reynolds Verified account ‏@domreynolds 4m4 minutes ago

Any issues, arguments between you? "No". Any jealousy, resentment? "None". Stewart says they were "very happy

I thought he contributed to the purchase of Royston but paid less than 50%?

ETA Just read that he put his contribution in later. Still catching up.

Indeed. I think IS was going for the Manuel analogy too!

Next we're going to hear how Helen took to wearing the cesspit lid as a hat and he can only think that she changed the standing order and accidentally fell down the opening while trying to get a rake from the garage.
