Ah yes, thanks for the link but that was in X by the Defence. Couldn't exclude the possibility is forensicspeak, as it is up to the police to prove otherwise. A debatable point.

Yes, whether or not Helen was still alive when dumped in the cesspit couldn't be proven one way or the other a full three months after the event. Her family must feel hugely frustrated (as do many of us) that the police failed to lift the cess pit hatch much earlier than they did - and ideally the week she went missing! Had they done so, forensic evidence on the bodies of Helen and Boris could have revealed far more about the crime and IS would not have been able to destroy so much incriminating evidence.

No doubt at the close of the trial this subject will be debated further!

Here's what the dog chap said:

Jurors also heard from Steven Polley, a dog handler for Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, who searched the author’s home with a police dog on April 22.

Mr Polley said the dog, trained to assist in the recovery of deceased victims, ‘indicated’ at a bucket of cleaning materials in the utility room, as well as a bench in the kitchen dining area and a pair of trousers in the main bedroom.

I'm guessing this may be referring to JS and Helen's brother who have been reported to always be chatting outside court during breaks. I'm also conjecturing that they are referring to Trimmer not IS!

This sounds feasible: I hope Neteditor will put this suggestion to him! Honestly, could anyone think IS was doing well?
(Bit worried about my 'honestly' there, after all IS's dodgy 'tbh'-ing - perhaps I should say 'For heaven's sake'!)

I recall reading the dogs were search and rescue dogs. That is quite different from cadaver dogs. They would detect human scent but not necessarily death. However, I cannot remember whether there were two dog searches. Anyone recall? Maybe if there was a second search, cadaver dogs were used.

Here's the link to Stephen Polley - the handler who attended Hartwell Lodge on Friday April 22 and his dog Paolo.....

Black and white springer spaniel Paolo is the latest dog to be trained and is the second pooch to be based within the Dereham-based Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team.

The two-year-old, whose official title is forensic evidence and victim search dog, is primarily used to locate high-risk missing people as well as assisting with other recovery work.

He is also specialised in blood detection and searches for bodies in and out of water – the only specialised fire and rescue service dog of his kind in the UK.

I do hope so - was getting worried for a moment there

I do wish, once again, that we had full details re the chat between Helen and Tracey. Would give some indication of whether it was Helen or not.

Although, the back and forth chat with Stuart Kye - 9.50 am for 30 - 40 minutes - I do think that was Helen. Simply because I can't see IS taking the trouble to continue chat for so long with him.

The more I hear from IS, the less I believe he would be capable of impersonating Helen over mail in any convincing way for a nanosecond.

Ah, it's nice to see Paolo. I still love the way his handler wanted to bring him into court. I'm sure Helen would have been more than happy to have him there.

I don't think they meant Trimmer because he'd barely started cross when lunch time came? Could be wrong because I was only just in from the shops and still catching up at that stage.

Uh oh that alert is on April 22nd which is 4 days before the date IS says Nick and Joe turned up and took the keys of the jeep and went into the garage.

The next contact with Nick and Joe was on Tuesday, April 26.

“I remember Jamie leaving the house and Nick being at the door after that. I was only half-dressed. I opened the door and asked where was Helen?

“He came in and started really speaking and swearing and said: ‘Why have you been telling the police? What’s all the fuss about?’

“I shook my head and said nothing. He said: ‘Are you expecting anyone, are you on your own?’

“I said: ‘Yes.’

“He asked me to open the front gates and I did.

“The gates started to open and Nick hit me twice. I ended up on my hands and knees on the floor, against the radiator.

“Then I heard a car come down on the drive. He was standing at the door watching out.”

“He said: ‘Helen’s told us where something is in the garage. We need to go and get it.’

“He then answered his phone, then said: ‘We need the Jeep keys, there’s something in there we need as well.’

“I got the keys out the draw. Almost as soon as I was doing this Joe came in and asked if anyone was in the house.

“I was sitting on the ground still. He got a phone out, and said: ‘This is for you, keep it charged, keep it with you. We will ring you on it’.

“I said: ‘Can I see Helen, talk to Helen?’

“He said: ‘Not at the moment, it will all be over soon’.”

It didn’t seem long that Joe was in the house, maybe less than 10 mins.

“Then I heard the car outside, Joe went out to the car, came back in with the Jeep keys, threw them at me.

“He said: ‘Tell them about us and you won’t see Helen again or Boris.’

“He left and that was it. I heard them drive off.”

Indeed they reinforced the point that they couldn't prove it either way.

Yup. I don't think he could come across like her for one second. Her friends would know it wasn't her. Plus why would he take that risk, he didn't have to...

He did start off, all guns blazing, by calling IS a liar - the first half hour or so, pre lunch, was good stuff.

BRAVO! Top work Squamous, thanks - I knew we could rely on you!

Possibly to fit in with his original 11.30 Surgery appointment...he needed Helen alive when he went out the door, so she could disappear before he got back.

I agree re the impersonating Helen, but yes and no answers would work

The more I hear from IS, the less I believe he would be capable of impersonating Helen over mail in any convincing way for a nanosecond.

That has always been my view just from his blog comments etc. He doesn't have a way with words either in writing or speech, from what I have seen and heard. Helen wrote the way she spoke, everyone said so, her closest friends would know if it was her or not.

Surely the friends she spoke with would still have the record of the chat on their end of things? Would the police have asked to see that?

They were "victim recovery" dogs, I'm pretty sure, ie cadaver dogs. There wasn't any need to look for an alive Helen with dogs, surely?

I imagine any dead mammal will cause them to indicate but I don't know that. In the Shannon Matthews thing the other night someone said the police had taken their floorboards up because a dog had indicated about what turned out to be a dead mouse or something. Obviously there's every chance that bit was pure fiction though!

Thanks everyone for coming to my rescue. The particular dog seems very well qualified as a cadaver dog.

Flipping Norah I've got a friend's PhD application to proofread before the day's done. You lot. Stop talking! :D :D

Sorry quoting myself here but I do think it most interesting that the police brought in the only specialised rescue dog of his kind in the UK - shows how much they were believing ISs lies even at that early stage
