It is is very possible that he is and he may have a hatred for women after many rejections hence the appalling violence he allegedly inflicted on an innocent young women.
Where is the basis for this statement?? Up until his court appearence last year he seemed to be a decent looking guy (I'm assuming his weight gain was after his accident - he couldn't work/was in coma) certainly nothing which would automatically assume he was rejected by women regularly

That sounds quite possible as I wouldn't think a barrel is a commonly bought item in a place like b&q, especially and a Sunday and when that photo was released it would definitely spark someone's memory. As dreadful as it is to think about this, is it certain that this is how she was found? I don't know much about how things like this work but would her parents have had to identify her themselves? Surely in a case like this they wouldn't have to see her if you wouldn't recognise her. Gosh even typing this, it doesnt bear thinking about but like would a post mortem be able to help establish exactly what all happened to her that night or would the apparent corrosives used have removed all such evidence and as one media report said, her "body parts were found." It's really horrific. I would just love to get inside the minds of why people could do something so disgusting.
I'm finding the link but I have read it was similar to a compost bin so I bet actually there are quite a few sold as barrels are cheaper than the overpriced composting bins available in those type of stores

I think Police believed they had the man who killed Karen but they had not got the evidence, so they named him as a "witness" and his picture was displayed on all news reports. They also said what he told them that he claimed to have had consensual sex with her and she left his flat at 4 AM(This claim angered a lot of people). It is highly unusual to have a witness and what he said in the media like this. I think this was a strategy by the Police, emotion was running high in Glasgow and the public were engrossed in the coverage of Karen's disappearance.

The idea was that if he was up to anything people would remember and report it to Police, it worked and I believe the footage of him buying the Barrel was the significant development that broke this case. The staff of the shop saw the picture and heard the story that she left his place at 4 AM and suddenly thought, hey I remember that guy he was in here on Sunday morning buying a barrel and maybe they thought that was odd.

Maybe he was asking odd questions as well and maybe he aroused suspicion by asking could these barrels hold corrosive substances Etc. Either way I believe getting his picture out on the media was a Police strategy that paid off. Its all opinion and of course I may be totally wrong on this.
The police may have found receipts when searching flat which led to them looking at store cctv. He may have been acting perfectly normal, just a customer buying a barrel. Staff may not have even realised they had served him

Huh just had a thought - this kind of reminds me of the episode(s) in Breaking Bad where Walter et Al are trying to dispose of a body in a plastic tub using corrosive. Wonder if he's ever seen that

Its an opinion I am trying to see why someone would have enough anger in them to allegedly beat an innocent girl with a spanner and strangle her to death, the image of him that was in all media publications showed and overweight and rather creepy looking guy, he looked like something out of the Addams family. That is just an opinion. I think it is a widely held opinion of one particular photo that was used in the media.

I was in a restaurant having a meal with work colleagues the day his picture was released to the media when he was a "witness", the case was getting huge coverage in Ireland. When his picture was shown on TV the waitresses and many others in the restaurant were commenting that how did she go to his flat, he looks so weird and and he has evil eyes etc etc. I think you have to admit the picture used widely of AP was not the most flattering. Its all just opinion maybe he had loads of women on the go, but then where does the anger come from that allegedly inflicted an horrendous death on an innocent young woman?

I just watched that episode and it made me think of this. Walter tells the other guy what kind of barrel to buy. I'm betting he's a breaking bad fan.

The Gambino Crime family were known for using this method in the late 80s and early 90s.

Quite possible, it's a very popular series.

If the barrel was bought at B&Q as has been suggested above you can almost 100% guarantee they have CCTV from multiple cameras. B&Q has (like many large chains) huge problems with stock going walk about. Their stores are usually covered in cameras especially around the tills and exits. If they have self service tills (many do) then those usually have very good CCTV coverage. Some B&Q stores also have a member of staff posted on the exit at busy times, checking that people have a receipt for everything that they have bought.

If you wanted to buy something without it being traced back to you B&Q would not be a smart place to shop.

The case reminds me of Drew Peterson who is convicted of killing his first wife Kathleen. His second wife Stacy is still missing and around the time she went missing Drew Peterson asked a relative for help moving a heavy blue barrel. It is presumed as a possibility that Stacy may have been inside it.

If it was an ATM, it could have been for the Taxi home and not the bar as the girls may have been splitting the taxi fare?

I understand he bought it at a B&Q store which is like the UK equivalent of Home Depot in the US. It's a big superstore so I don't know if he would be known that well in a large store like that. Also they have self-scan checkouts now as well as normal tills. You could go in and buy stuff not speaking to anyone. I wonder if he needed help to move the barrel into his car.

It wouldn't take very long to trace the purchase of a new barrel within a limited area. Find out who stocks that type of barrel locally and ask them to check. Everything is computerised now and sales recorded and timed. There wouldn't have been that many sold during those few days.

(Have to say I thought of 'Breaking Bad' at once!)

We may never know why Karen left the club, unless the accused opens up and tells all, I wont hold my breathe on that one. Its a question that will haunt Karens family and her friends for the rest of their lives.

Well, as I said earlier, he may have approached other girls in the same way, and if so we may well hear it from them.

After the trial or it will come out in one of the Irish tabloids.

When googling, I found a rain barrel, with drain faucet in the lower range, inexpensive.

The couple were reunited with their sons, Brendan (32) and Damien (27), at the family's Analeentha farm outside Mourneabbey in north Cork after they had spent a week in Glasgow with their third son, Kieran (28), to support the police's desperate search for their daughter.

As I found out, the accused has 3 siblings too, a sister and two brothers. What a shame for these young people to have such a monster as a brother.

They also refused to comment on reports Pacteau was captured on CCTV buying acid at a DIY store following Karen’s disappearance.

-.-.-.-.-

The grim discovery was made near the site of a bonfire on lands near High Craigton Farm, eight miles north of Glasgow.

On Tuesday and Wednesday police carried out inquiries with locals in the Milngavie area —where the farm is situated and Pacteau’s grey car had been noticed driving erratically on Monday — trying to establish the location of this fire.
