Little bit here, rest is behind a paywall. Stabbed 21 times :(

A jealous ex-boyfriend stabbed the heavily pregnant mother of his unborn son to death in a ‘vicious and cowardly’ attack after sneaking into her home, a court heard. Aaron McKenzie, 26, knifed Kelly Mary Fauvrelle 21 times while her family slept upstairs in the early hours of 29 June last year, jurors heard. Baby Riley was delivered via emergency C-section at the scene – seven weeks before the due date – but died after four days on a ventilator

Kelly Fauvrelle had been 33 weeks pregnant at the time of her death

Prosecutor Duncan Penny QC told jurors: “The Crown’s case is that this was a vicious and deliberate killing –

In early 2019, Ms Fauvrelle’s relationship with McKenzie, with whom she shared an interest in motorbikes, had ended,

In February, McKenzie messaged that he was feeling “not needed, not wanted, unimportant and lost” as he appealed to her.

Ms Fauvrelle told him he needed professional help,

‘Jealous’ man killed heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend and baby, court told

Kelly was attacked in bed at her home in the “dead of night” on 29 June 2019.

McKenzie left the scene and “carried on as if nothing had happened”, even taking a driving lesson later that morning.

McKenzie stayed at a friend’s house in Thornton Heath on the night of the attack but later claimed he had been asleep at his mother’s home in Peckham at the time of the murder.

McKenzie, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, told a string of “lies” to police during interviews before he finally confessed.

Kelly told her mother her relationship with McKenzie was “toxic” and she broke up with him on 10 February 2019.

McKenzie struggled to accept the relationship was over and suffered from “desperate jealousy” when he learned in June that she had a new boyfriend, a man called Rolander.

CCTV footage was shown to the jury of McKenzie riding his Yamaha motorcycle on the evening before the murder, despite having reported it stolen a week earlier.
The prosecution claim he rode the bike to the crime scene a few hours later.

Pregnant Woman Was Murdered ‘In Dead of Night’ by Jealous Ex, UK Trial Jury Told

McKenzie was caught on CCTV running from the scene in Raymead Avenue before appearing on his Yamaha R1 in a nearby street moments later, it was said.

The alleged killer fled the scene as the victim’s sister and mother were woken by her screams and rushed downstairs, it was said.

[...]

McKenzie allegedly took a driving lesson the following day before being visited by police and told of the tragic news.

He gave officers the wrong phone number to cover his tracks and ‘cruelly’ lied that he had been at his mother’s house and knew nothing of the killing, the court heard.

[...]

‘At around this time, and throughout the spring and early summer it would appear that she had begun to spend more time with her male colleague from work called “Ro” whom she had come to call King.

‘Although initially she was secretive about this relationship with Ro, by the summer of 2019 she had begun to be more open on the topic, at least with her sister Melissa.

‘Ro had given her a pair of trainers for her birthday and Melissa noticed that in the week before her death Kelly had begun to wear a bracelet bearing the name “Queen” on her wrist, matching the name King which Kelly tended to use for Ro.’

The happy new couple had arranged for Rolander to meet Ms Fauvrelle’s family the week after the horrific killing took place, jurors heard.

‘Melissa’s recollection was that arrangements had been made for Ro to meet Kelly’s family on Monday 1 July 2019, she also recalls that Kelly was feeling upbeat because there was a possibility of a new job within the union at the Royal Mail.

McKenzie had bonded with Ms Fauvrelle over their shared love of motorcycles and wheeled his bike through her alleyway to gain access to the house on the night of the killing, jurors heard.

That doesn't fit with the cctv which showed him approaching the house on foot from the top of Raymead Avenue - and departing on foot.

Boyfriend Aaron McKenzie, 26, who jurors were told might have acted out of jealousy, killed Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle in a "vicious and cowardly" attack after breaking into her home in the early hours of the morning while she was sleeping, his murder trial was told.

Their son Riley Fauvrelle was born by cesarean at the house and rushed to hospital.

The baby suffered severe brain damage from the traumatic events and died four days later, jurors were told.

Ms Fauvrelle, also 26, was in a relationship with McKenzie for several years until early 2019.

'Jealous' ex 'stabbed pregnant mum to death' before baby died four days later

Ms Fauvrelle suffered a 20.4cm gash which pierced through her entire chest,

"Kelly had been with her sister, her mother and her nephew.

"She left her mum's room at 8pm and said she was going to bed while her mother and sister continued to watch a film on telly.

"At 3.15am Melissa was woken by the sound of Kelly screaming. She heard three or four screams. She thought each of these asked ( lasted ? ) a few seconds."

Other relatives soon came downstairs to Ms Fauvrelle's bedroom where she was "tumbling away from her bed and face first on the floor."

As Melissa approached, she began to see blood.

"Initially Melissa thought there was something wrong with the baby but she soon saw a deep wound by her hand.

"She was screaming, calling for somebody to call the emergency services.

"Other members of the family had come into the room and the scene was highly distressing."

The court heard relatives performed chest compressions while on the phone to an emergency operator in a bid to save Ms Fauvrelle and her unborn baby.

As an Empath, I find these descriptions really tough to read ... her poor, poor family

Earlier, Ms Fauvrelle’s mother Mary Patton described being awoken by screams on the night of the attack,

In her witness statement to police, she said: “I heard (daughter) Melissa screaming to call the police.

“I thought Kelly was having her baby.

“I saw Kelly had a pregnancy pillow round her neck. Blood was coming from her mouth. I could see she had been stabbed.”

The court heard Ms Patton ran into the garden and began screaming, where she collapsed.

Describing her daughter, Ms Patton said: “Kelly was a cheeky girl who liked teasing us.

Everything for her was a joke, she never took things too seriously.”

From yesterday's testimony - A bit more detail about the driving lesson

Around five hours later, suspect McKenzie was having a driving lesson.

The driving instructor sent a text to McKenzie at 7am that morning asking if he was still available for the lesson, to which McKenzie replied: “All good.”

McKenzie was picked up by his driving instructor at 8.30am, whose behaviour was deemed by her to be “completely normal”.

The instructor later remarked to police how McKenzie “seemed really happy”.

I can't imagine paramedics often have to do a c-section in situ. What a traumatic ordeal for them, too.
