Thanks for clarifying, I see your point and you are right.

Your method results in an 8.2% chance of a female being murdered by a total stranger and a 91.8% chance of the victim knowing their attacker.

It suggests that SE is statistically highly likely to have known her attacker but could be one of the 8%.

Thanks for the helpful stats evo.

I think we also have to take into account the respective likelihoods of women being killed by strangers vs men know to them in different various settings. The dangers women face by their husbands and partners for example are primarily in the domestic setting. Whereas outdoors, one presumes - though I don’t have the stats I must admit - the chances of being attacked by a stranger relative to those of a known person would presumably be much higher.

If he was working on the day of the incident, surely going via Clapham is a bit out of the way when there would be a more direct route to Kent (see map attached). This would signal a bit of premeditation for going on the prowl
Premeditation can be a number of actions , journey being one but there are many others , for example the purchase of specific items, ensuring that they have the time by looking at their own and other’s work hours etc
It can be a reactionary crime in that SE was in the right place but unfortunately at a time when WC was around and therefore it was opportunistic BUT there’s an argument to be had that although that person was opportunistic, the planning of such an offence was premeditated and this is where the law can become supremely complex at trial

From the Mail:

It was reported that neighbours noticed a Land Rover parked close to policeman Wayne Couzens' house in the historic town of Deal, and thought it was being watched by two men inside at around 5pm on Tuesday evening.

Wasn't it you who posted that on here about the car on Tues? The oress seem to be watching here I am sure!
Yes I thought this too, unless I'm not the only person that noticed it x

The language used chilled me. 'What we believe to be human remains' - I know if her body had been out in the elements it is likely to be in an advanced state of decomposition, however, i think it would still be evident it was a body. This case is really likely to only get worse.
A local poster on here said that people dump dead sheep there (uggggh) Could that be adding to the confusion re the remains? Also possibly why they need so many people there for so long to check through everything they find?

My concern now with the developments in the setting up of a Command Facility on the site in Ashford is that there is the potential for multiple human remains to have been found. Hence the requirement for a proper Command post and the previous language around human remains taking some time to identify etc. Just a possibility.

could someone with better knowledge than me explain the purpose of a Command Facility and whether this would signify multiple sets of remains being considered/searched for?

yes but a badge wouldn’t be enough to lure me inside a car, I might have engaged in some conversation keeping physical distance especially due to Covid, obviously I can’t speak for Sarah but her family also agrees that she wouldn’t have got inside a car.

I guess each to their own and we all react differently.

But the angle I look at it from is that this is a woman who as far as we know has not had trouble with the police before, if she’s been stopped and “arrested” by an officer showing a police badge then ignoring it could have led to further charges of resisting arrest.

I’d imagine for most in this situation you’d be fearful of the arrest over other thoughts and emotions.

I'm still struggling to understand why he was in Clapham at all tbh after his shift finished at 8pm.

He would absolutely have had to go back to base at Westminster Palace to change out of uniform, and clock out, with the rest of his shift team. His car (that he drove from Deal) would have been parked in Westminster too.

Clapham is NOT on the way home to Kent from Westminster. If he went there, it was with intent. Otherwise there were plenty other parks and areas close/on the way for him to pick a woman up, that would have been less complicated than doing it on the South Circular. Does anyone know if Clapham Common has a reputation for dogging/cottaging? As an example, Epping Forest and Hampstead Heath are notorious for it after dark.

It's making me question whether he was in Clapham because (a) he observes dogging/partakes in cottaging and this is a good spot for it, close enough to work and en route home - saw Sarah alone and was just opportunistic (b) he has been indecent in the Common before, and it is a well known hunting ground for him for some reason (maybe lots of young female runners in the evenings)

If (b), then he has been planning an attack on someone for some time, and it's a lot more deviant, and planned.

Exactly that scenario sounds like exactly what a serial killer would say. Sarah was way too savvy for that I’m sure.

I’m from the U.K. There’s a BIG difference in what I would do if approached by a pair of police in uniform in a police car during the day, and how I would react if I was confronted by a bulky guys in an unmarked car and no uniform at night. Anybody can claim to be police...

also a lot of Police officer have radio's on them

good grief his mother in law who doesnt even live in the country says "he could not do anything like this hes a wonderful man" .... how well does she really know him?

Sadly many or the worst killers/serial killers were known to be able to be ultra charming and 'nice' - so if it is him, then would not be surprising if many who knew him had no idea he could be capable of this - the neighbours have also commented on him being a nice guy:(

Claire Barnett, executive director of UN Women UK, said: “This is a human rights crisis. It’s just not enough for us to keep saying ‘this is too difficult a problem for us to solve’ — it needs addressing now.”

It seems that almost every young woman in the UK has experienced sexual harassment. This figure is completely unsurprising to women who have grown up in the UK. It is common for friends to share traumatic experiences over WhatsApp, to call one another while walking home and to be hesitant in rejecting men who could turn out to be irrationally angry. For women, street harassment is a sobering part of navigating their daily lives.

To be visible at all, is to be targeted.

There seems to be no choice that can avert this kind of horrific experience. Sarah Everard was wearing bright clothes, walking on well-lit residential roads, and in communication with her partner.

A YouGov survey carried out by UN Women UK found that only 4% of women report incidents of sexual harassment, while an overwhelming 96% remain dubious about the UK authorities’ capacity to handle an incident like this. Around 45% of the women who would not report sexual harassment in the UK say that it is because nothing would really change.
Research finds that 97% of women in the UK have been sexually harassed

I'm same age/background/location as Sarah, I honestly do not believe she'd have got into an unmarked car with one solo plain clothes officer even with a badge. This is a route I have walked many times myself, by that point she is more than halfway home an offer of a lift wouldn't even be that worthwhile.

Can someone please remind me on when he was arrested - Mon? Tue? - as losing track here, and where we stand on holding him, and when we might expect next police statement on potential charge?

Charm is the viscous grease that oils the deception machines of these men. If someone is overly sycophantic, watch out!

I wonder what they have found in the house for them to have erected the fence.... I don’t remember that being there yesterday?

I am leaning towards there unfortunately being more victims, however if not, this is a huge and varied crime scene for the teams to be working through. IMO.

The fence was built yesterday.
Personally ( could be wrong of course ) I think it's for privacy for the investigators. I know msm can drone overhead ( insensitive but they can ) but a fence will prevent a certain amount of photos being taken.
