TOTALLY.

I could make lists of teachers and grocery store employees who would grab at me and other girls in the 70's. You just kind of had to avoid them as best you could. In 7th and 8th grade, all the girls knew which male teachers you had to avoid if they were alone - if you needed to pick up an assignment or ask a question, you did it when there was a class of students present or your breasts or crotch would be grabbed.

This does not seem to happen now, in public areas, but it certainly did in the 70's. Girls were on their own to use their wits to avoid being groped by men.
You should make the list and hand it in. Society cannot change if it doesn't know what is wrong with it.

Latest arrest, "Uncle" Ted Beston, Radio 1 producer.

Mr Beston produced several shows for Savile and also used his skills producing hit shows for DJ Mike Read and latterly Simon Mayo's Breakfast Show in the 80s.
Savile affectionately referred to Mr Beston on air as 'Uncle Ted'.
Throughout the course of today there have been signs of police activity at Mr Beston's house.
Three men in suits were seen leaving the premises in two cars carrying a large black holdall and three sealed black bin liners.

Sign of the times? BBC extra-sensitive now?

http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/bbc-shuts-down-thorn-tree-travel-forum-on-lonely-planet-website-over-uncomfortable-themes-8431501.html

''The hits are mostly discussions of current events or pointless stuff that would have been moderated, like 'Barney the dinosaur is a big purple paedophile'. However, someone found a thread about 'what's the age of consent in Mexico?' That really set them off.

''They went into full, freak-out, panic attack mode.''

That's a pretty drastic step....temporarily shutting down Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forums. They are VERY popular with travelers.

If you go to the website, here is the message you will see:

UPDATE 26th December 2012

Dear Thorn Tree User,

We're sorry but the Thorn Tree forum is temporarily closed as we've discovered instances of inappropriate language and themes. Until we're confident all rogue posts have been identified and appropriate action taken we feel we have no option but to temporarily close the forum as a precautionary measure.

We're actively working on this throughout the holiday period - please bear with us.

The Lonely Planet Team.

Jimmy Savile 'preyed on patients at hospice for the terminal ill' (Daily Mail)
Jimmy Savile targeted at least one UK hospice where he abused sick and dying patients, as well as the staff caring for them, an official report will reveal this week.

The Metropolitan Police will also name hospitals, prisons and schools across the UK where the paedophile DJ sexually assaulted and raped at least 200 people.

Although Savile's abuse at Stoke Mandeville, Broadmoor and Leeds General Infirmary hospitals have become well-known since his death, it is thought he may have attacked people in at least seven other places.

Police report issued today.

Jimmy Savile spent 'every waking minute' thinking about abusing boys and girls

• Police missed three chances to take case to trial, DPP admits
• Savile abused children as recently as 2009
• 450 complaints made to police
• Sexual offences began in 1955, report concludes
• Abuse was "vast, predatory and opportunistic"

Commander Peter Spindler, head of the inquiry, said Savile had "groomed a nation" and preyed on 450 victims, aged between eight and 47, over a 54-year period. Almost a fifth of his victims were boys.

With its "he groomed a nation," looks like the investigation is borrowing the phrase Independent used back in October.

And a good one to borrow it is.

He’s dead. The dirty old *advertiser censored*’s dead. You are investigating a corpse. All this energy is PR. Investigate the living. Turn your celebrity police eye to the horror in care homes. The CPS has changed. Sure. But they cannot prosecute a dead man.

Savile could have been stopped fifty years ago: Police ignored 1964 report on DJ because of his celebrity, inquiry finds
Jimmy Savile’s decades of abuse could have been stopped nearly 50 years ago, a damning inquiry reveals today.

Potentially vital intelligence about his sex crimes was buried in 1964 because he was a celebrity.

The earliest known allegation against the DJ was discovered in a Scotland Yard Paedophile Unit ledger dating back to that year.

The report linked him with young girls at a Surrey children’s home but police failed to act on the information.
