This is an interesting case. The body was found last week by workmen clearing ditches in Hawthorn Lane, Warfield, a semi-rural bit of Bracknell.

Dentists across the UK will be asked to check their files as part of a murder investigation into the death of a man whose remains were found in Warfield.

The dead man who has not yet been identified had an injury to the skull suggesting he was struck by a blunt instrument.

And he may be identifiable by seven bright white front teeth - which were veneers.

Police say the body had been buried for at least two years and possibly as much as 15 years.

Apparently the 7 veneers could be key to IDing him, as 6 or 8 are more usual (I presume to match top and bottom???).

Remains were in a bag, so probably killed elsewhere. Post mortem showed blunt force trauma to his head.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone - dog walkers or walkers in the area - who may have seen something suspicious over this long time-frame of two to 15 years ago.

Det Supt Holford said what the police did know about the dead man was that he was white, aged about 30 to 35, roughly 5ft 9ins tall and of stocky build.

She said he was a "well-built, stocky guy" suggesting he had possibly been “a weight-lifter or a labourer”.

“One distinctive feature of the deceased man is the dental work that he had undergone. He had seven veneers, which is unusual as a person normally has six or eight, and his teeth would have been noticeably white.”

She added that although his friends might have noticed he had a "white, bright smile", family members and people closer to him might have known they were veneers.

I've found a video of someone driving the length of the road, which gives a very good idea of the terrain. Single track, very quiet.

It's not really far from the M4, but I think you'd need to know the area to plan it as a dump site.

Neil Nortrop, aged 32, also known as Neil McGarthland, vanished in 2003 while visiting a friend in Greenwich and Dartford (South East London - about an hour drive to Hawthorn Lane, Warfield, west from London). The fisherman and father-of-two was also a bodybuilder and Thai boxer.

He was 5ft 11in, of muscular build with cropped fair hair, blue eyes and diamond studs in his teeth. (Even though diamond studs are mentioned, I think he should still be checked into. He clearly cared about his body appearance and teeth, so veneers might be possibility. Neil's body build, age, height, location and time frame seems to match with this UID)

As far as I know, they have never found the body of Donovan Van Lill, missing from Chippenham, Wiltshire (about 90 minutes drive away)

http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/5046534.Concern_grows_for_missing_Chippenham_man/

He was 29 (or 30 depending on the news source) years old and a Rugby player/gym worker, was described as having a stocky build and was South African -which could explain any unusual (by uk standards) dentistry.
He went missing in 2010.

The police are fairly sure he was murdered, but no body has ever been found

I do think Neil Nortrop is a better fit actually - you can see his teeth in some of the pictures and they look really straight and white.

I have phoned 101 quoting case number URN 911 3/8 as per news article with suggestions of Neil Nortrop and Donovan Van Lill. After a bit of confusion from operator and being transferred few times between different police forces they have taken details and might call me back. I will post if I hear back from LE with any update.

I have received call back from Thames Valley Police Force. They appreciate the help and will look into both missing persons cases. They might call me back again with development (no promises) but as per their words if there will be any update they will release it to press.

On another positive note, UK police force have been introduced to Websleuths :happydance:

Still no ID.

The inquest has been opened and adjourned. Coroner Peter Bedford
said the body was wrapped in green bin liners, a tartan rug and a tarpaulin and added there were two holes in the skull which had prompted the murder investigation. Police at the time said they were caused buy a “blunt instrument”.

The dead man was white, in his 30s, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins and of stocky build.

Guy must have been reasonably well off, here in the UK dental veneers are nearly always fitted privately and this can cost £500-£2000 per tooth. Maybe the dental work could have been carried out elsewhere as it's quite common to travel overseas if you are spending upwards of £5k on dentistry.

Previously reported
The remains were found in a bag which suggested the man was murdered elsewhere and his body brought to the secluded spot.

2nd article is written by the same reporter with possibly coroner as the source. Estimation of JD height has been shortened from previous 5ft 9 (175.26 cm) to between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins now (170.18 cm - 172.72cm). Remains were skeletal so height could be still quite off.

Still no ID.

I would think that two holes would be inflicted by two gun shots rather than blunt instrument which would probably leave cracks or fractures?

Green bin liners, a tartan rug and a tarpaulin - I really wonder what type of green bin liners were used, thin bio, regular recycling or the strong big ones usually used for heavy garden waste. Tarpaulin makes me think of gardening business too, as often it is used to secure leaves or other garden waste on cars during transportation. Another option would be of course construction business.

Can anyone share if it is common in UK to have tarpaulin at home, normal family household rather than only at work? None of my friends own one.

That was my first thought too and thought of possibility of small business owner/partner. Veneers are not as common in Europe as in US, but 7 veneers do indicate probable Eastern or overseas work. It was not answered yet if 7 veneers were all upper teeth only or rather 4 up and 3 down. In both cases I assume it would be quite distinctive. Would love to hear thoughts from anyone with dentistry knowledge.

Neil Nortrop has traveled to Thailand few times and it seems he had his teeth done there however, apart from being stocky build, having some veneers and missing in the same 15 years time frame there are no further facts indicating that it is him (or not).

So far unfortunately no clothing of JD have been mentioned. Were not there any?! Males are not usually found disrobed, even in suspected foul play cases.

This is a random guess but the men might have been from Eastern Europe. A lot of EE people have dental issues (poor nutrition + no floridated water) ....The height & build are also close to the "average" EE male.

Immediate first thought is bodybuilder/drugs/petty crime/gang-related murder.

I know people in Eastern Europe usually have subpar dental care, so would that even include veneers? They are very expensive and a luxury here, I wouldn't imagine they would be common in EE. They are completely done for cosmetic reasons, and not something I associate with poor dental care.

Hopefully the fact that he had an odd number of veneers will trigger someone's memory, since that is kind of strange. Everyone I know who has them had an even number of teeth so starting at the front two it's an even amount on each side. Veneers are very expensive here as well, anywhere from $700-over $1000 each depending on the dentist.

Below is in my humble opinion & suggestion only

Paul Morson, aged 31, 5ft 7ins tall (170.18 cm), also known as Birdie, missing 8 June 2011

Paul was car dealer and owner of cannabis farm. Presumed kidnapped and murdered at the farm by his cannabis associates who have been arrested by now and charged. His body has never been recovered. On the day of Paul disappearance suspects drove to his house and stole money from his personal safe.

(snip)
xy, said he and Paul Morson got involved in growing large amounts of the drug at the house of co-accused xy, on Windy Arbor Lane, Whiston, a year before the alleged murder.

He said they had had trouble with “gardeners” for the crop and had had to sack them and that on the day Paul Morson went missing he was driving the third defendant,xy, to the house to act as the next gardener.(snip)

I do not want to go too much into details of his demise, but as per trial it involved sledge or lamp hammer and he has been later wrapped and disposed of in big black plastic sheet from cannabis farm (tarpaulin?).

As per his pics, Paul Morson seems to have veneers and also means to get them. His disappearance is in time frame of the JD, his height is match. Location however is about 3 hours drive from cannabis farm in Whiston to Hawthorn Lane, Warfield.

Re: Paul Morson

I wonder why he's not listed on Missing People, maybe because there has already been a conviction for his murder, yet he's still technically missing.

I am not sure how Missing People org is working in UK, if it is similar to Doe network in US where all the cases must go through LE, however I do find that in most European countries it is unfortunately very disorganized process, and not just due to language barrier. There is no active central missing person database and neither DNA database equivalent to US NamUs, apart of one set up in Bosnia after the 95 war.

Some European missing person websites post only person's picture, name and message "Please, come home"... No details such a weight, height, medical or even any circumstances and therefore it is almost impossible without extensive research for general public to help even if they want to. Real shame.

I really wish one day some org or perhaps European Union (?) will finally take the task under their wings and create something central (apart of small random Interpol database). We are much much smaller than US and it should be doable.
