He may have killed her before picking up the other g/f Murray. She may not have even known that Jones was in the back truck. As for this , with his background and on meds etc, hes going to plea a temp insanity. IMO. Very sad!

I had mentioned on the other post that maybe Jones was killed before Doyel picked up the g/f Murray, she may not have known Jones was in the back seat, also, with his background and medications etc he will most likely plead an insanity plea.IMO

Awwww, not the ending I wanted in this story. I feel so sorry for her family and friends. :( I hope they nail this #@$^%* to the wall!!!

Maybe one or both threads should be moved to crimes in the news now that the autopsy report is back and her death is considered a homicide.

Update.

"Michael Doyel has not been charged in connection with Deborah Jones' death, but he is charged with kidnapping the other woman, Patricia Murray. Court documents say he took her from a senior complex where she lived. The documents filed in 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City say Murray cannot care for herself and has been living in assisted adult housing."

"While on his way to a holding cell, he waved to the TV camera and professed his love for the woman found dead in the car he was driving there. "I love you Deborah Marie Jones," he said."

"Pauline Doyel went on to say "We've had him institutionalized. He's been in jail, he's been in prison. We've done everything in our power to get help for him."

She said her son stopped taking medication, "believing he no longer needed it." Pauline Doyel said Jones tried to get her son to start taking it again."

"Reporters from the Deseret News contacted Doyel's mother in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before Branson officers discovered Jones' body Monday night. According to the news account, Pauline Doyel "expressed grave concern for Jones due to her son's behavior in the past."

Pauline Doyel said, "My last words to him were, 'Go away. Leave her alone and be good. Be good. Leave people alone.'"

"Juanita Plowman's case was not the first time we heard about Michael Doyel. Not long after Plowman's disappearance, an Iowa City woman who once dated Doyel came forward. She chose not to show her face or say her name but said Doyel lied to her and tried to handle her money, as well.

She said, "He's manipulative. He's charming. I told someone one time when he's good, he's very, bery good and when he's bad, he was horrible."

That woman told TV9, like Plowman, she also met Doyel through a personal ad in the newspaper."

Thanks for the links. Sad to say, but in this day in age you really do need to do a background check on someone before getting involved with them.

Yikes is right! Did you see the links at the bottom for the news coverage from 1999? It's like deja vu.

A sick plan...

"Jones' body was covered inside the container by a tarp, towels and clothing. Her body was partially clothed and facing up with her arms and legs tied behind her back by nylon cord.

Doyel allegedly told Branson police that he covered the clothing in deodorant stick to mask the smell."

insanity claim on the way I am sure...

"At one point, the judge asked Doyel to read the federal complaint against him. While he was reading he muttered, "That's not true. It's a lie. She's alive, and she should be here any minute." Then he asked, "Where's she at?"

Don't you have to prove you don't know the difference between right and wrong to plead insanity?? If he tied her up, put her in a box, then covered her up with clothing covered in deodorant, that tells me he was trying to hide the body. Why hide the body if you don't know right from wrong? IMO, he may be a sandwich shy of a picnic but he is not insane.

Kidnapping trial postponed because defendant found mentally incompetent

A kidnapping trial set to start Monday in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City has been postponed because defendant Michael J. Doyel has been found mentally incompetent.

Doyel, who is accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend last year and driving her body to Missouri, was charged in both federal court and Utah's 3rd District Court.

Third District Judge Judith Atherton ruled in January that Doyel was mentally incompetent to stand trial and sent him to the Utah State Hospital in an effort to restore his competency. At a review hearing in May, the judge ordered Doyel to remain under treatment for another year, ruling that he still was unable to understand the charges against him and assist his lawyer in his defense.

Based on that ruling, U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups approved a motion by Doyel's defense attorney to cancel the kidnapping trial that was to take place this week.

From January 2012:

http://www.sltrib.com/content404v4.php?ref=/sltrib/news/53246771-78/doyel-court-jones-state.html.csp

Michael Jerome Doyel, 51, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder in 3rd District Court in connection with killing Jones, a Salt Lake City nurse who had ended a relationship with Doyel after learning the con man had fed her a string of lies while they dated.

Judge Judith Atherton immediately sentenced the man to 15 years to life in prison...

Last month, Doyel pleaded guilty in federal court to kidnapping and was immediately sentenced to a 30-year prison term by U.S. District Court Judge Dee Benson. He will first serve his federal prison sentence and, if he is still alive when that term ends, he will return to Utah to serve his state sentence. Attorneys have said Doyel is currently battling terminal cancer and isn't expected to live long.
