The issue that I have with what you are suggesting, is twofold.

Actually, more like threefold, if that’s a thing (I think it is because my phone didn’t try and correct it).

We have no known history of drug use.

College students know where to go for drugs (it’s not hard), and meeting strange men in dark parking lots at 3am, isn’t typical.

They were both active on dating apps, and that connection appears to be far stronger than any other. This guy even had a “profile” photo of hers on his phone.

Well there is "trifold." (Made for a terrible project once until I discovered pre-scored, trifold paper). ;)

And since when do drug dealers drive you back home after they’ve made the sale? (Okay, or patiently wait while you call another Lyft to replace the one you just let drive away?)

I think many are getting stuck on the 3 am part. I have two sons in their 20's and time is irrelevant to them. They will go to breakfast af 3:00 am, they will go to dinner at 11:00 pm, they will go to a party at 2:00 am, they will sleep until 2:00 pm - all of which are alien to me, but then I'm not a 20-something college student. The part that's sticky is ML meeting THIS GUY at 3:00 am in a deserted park. There had to have been some reason; we just don't know what it is. There is the dating app connection, so I'm thinking it had something to do with that. We don't know what kind of dating app or how far along they were in their communication, but that's how she knew him and she was expecting to meet him in the park at 3:00 am. According to the Lyft driver, she showed no trepidation at the meeting place or the car or getting out of the Lyft or retrieving her bags from the Lyft. That's really all we know.

I agree that people are getting far too stuck on the 3:00 am part of things. For whatever reason, she wanted to meet him as soon as her plane got in. I think that’s the way to look at it.

And I’m beyond-a-reasonable-doubt sure that the 3:00 am timing, in this particular case, didn’t create a dangerous situation for her. Who she was meeting—that was the danger, not when she was meeting him.

Can anyone provide a link to a synopsis of this story please? Way too many threads to go back through. Much appreciated to anyone who can help.
I recommend the media thread. It's just 22 pages vs. 16 threads. You can skim past tweets and duplicate articles. :)

Also, I see MassGuy linked the Heavy article about ML. Here is the one for AA:

i don't think anybody has EVER suggested a hook up in the park. if they have that to me would be far fetched. i agree there is much we do not know about all this.

I think the breakfast example is just used to show it could have been arranged as something completely casual...Not a sexual hookup in the park. Just trying to show she may not have intended to be meeting him for a sexual encounter. JMO.

Saw an earlier post that sone what recently Kenzie had lost up to 30 Lbs on a "revenge diet" there's also the tem. meds that make that easier
Well, there are some who would describe a sexual hookup in the park as a casual encounter.

I understand the point, though.

I don't think the reason ML was meeting AA was for a sexual encounter.
Her appearance in the airport pics indicate otherwise.

Having read some of this guy's "writing," I'm openly skeptical that she was meeting with him to enjoy some scintillating conversation over breakfast.

I tend to keep it simple: Why do people meet up in a dark, isolated parking lot at 3 am, if it's not for sex?

ML was likely emotionally exhausted.
She had exams coming up.
I think AA lured her with the promise of something that could help lift her over the hurdles she faced in the upcoming week.

He's a vicious predator who stalked his prey and pounced when she was at her most vulnerable.

JMO.

Weight loss,staying alert,it's not uncommon to use meds..

Perhaps AA was that kind of friend. He knew her situation..Post funeral perhaps he sensed ML was more emotional and vulnerable.

Saw an earlier post on WS... that somewhat recently said Kenzie had lost up to 30 Lbs on a "revenge diet" There's also the temptation to get an extra boost to help study for exams when life gets in the way.
All moo

edit: double posted and extended an earlier accidental post.mMy skills are rusty it's been a while !

Why the aggravated kidnapping charge then?

He has not formally been charged yet.

I believe aggravated kidnapping implies that she was being held against her will and an injury occurred in some capacity.

Even if she willingly met with him, had she wanted to leave at any time and wasn't allowed to, that is kidnapping. Because she was injured and killed, the kidnapping becomes aggravated.

i understand that lots of folks here believe they were meeting for breakfast. I am not in that group. :)

Late-night breakfast is pretty common in some parts of the US, particularly among college students and travelers. Hence the not uncommon occurrence of 24 hour restaurants, both chain and local, which frequently serve breakfast all day. (Waffle House, Denny's, many diners, casinos etc. Not that they were going to a casino in SLC!)

Additionally Kenzie had been in California for a few days, an hour behind SLC time, and thus may not have physically felt it was that late. 2 am to college students often isn't considered late, especially in the summer.

Another poster already noted that the flight from LA is not a long one, so while she was undoubtedly emotionally tired from grieving, I doubt she felt much fatigue simply from being on a plane for two hours or so. For all we know she napped on the flight or had refreshments on board, and wanted to wind down a little before going home to sleeping roommates. MOO

BBM
It's not the 3 AM part; it's the 3 AM + plus getting dropped off in a dark park.

If she had met him at 3 AM at a restaurant or even went directly to his house, this would be a non-issue for discussion.

Why the aggravated kidnapping charge then?

Under state law found at Utah Code § 76-5-301, a person can be charged with kidnapping for:
  • Detaining or restraining a person against their will:
    • For a “substantial” amount of time.
    • For any amount of time, if there is a risk the victim will be seriously injured.
“Detaining” means keeping someone in a location against their will. “Restraining” means interfering with the person’s ability to move freely.

Kidnapping charges become aggravated when the defendant commits kidnapping and additional elements are present – for example, using a weapon or acting with intent to commit a sex crime (e.g. rape, aggravated sexual assault).

You would be correct. There is no evidence to suggest Kenzie used drugs, however, she did use dating apps as did AA.
Using dating apps doesn't make one more inclined to use illicit substances. I understand that their cell phones were both present at the park but nothing else suggests she was there to intentionally meet him. I wonder if he somehow conned her to meet up to say hi as opposed to some nefarious cause.

Reading through his background, I wouldn't be surprised if more instances (other than the one already known) are discovered in which he became sexually aggressive. My stance thus far is the two met for whatever reasons and AA wouldn't take no for answer.

Yeah his booking info says
5’11” 225lbs
I think they may have gone by his DL which is whatever you put on your application. I’m 5’11 and no way is he my height. You can look at his arrest photo standing near the cops he’s shorter then all of them I would guess 5’8 -5’9 at the most I guess he wanted to be taller.

Here it is.
MOO Utah laws are very clear.
In my opinion it is:
1b ii, iv and vi

Utah Code
Effective 5/14/2019
76-5-302 Aggravated kidnapping.
(1) An actor commits aggravated kidnapping if the actor, in the course of committing unlawful detention or kidnapping:
(a) uses or threatens to use a dangerous weapon as defined in Section 76-1-601; or (b) acts with intent:
(i) to hold the victim for ransom or reward, or as a shield or hostage, or to compel a third person to engage in particular conduct or to forbear from engaging in particular conduct;
(ii) to facilitate the commission, attempted commission, or flight after commission or attempted commission of a felony;
(iii) to hinder or delay the discovery of or reporting of a felony;
(iv) to inflict bodily injury on or to terrorize the victim or another;
(v) to interfere with the performance of any governmental or political function; or
(vi) to commit a sexual offense as described in Title 76, Chapter 5, Part 4, Sexual Offenses
