These are stomach-churning details. It's hard to listen to this and to watch the DA break down in tears. I can't imagine how awful it will be if this goes to trial and Kenzie's friends and family have to sit in the same room and testify in front of the murderer.

LE and the DA just did an outstanding job on this case and moved as quickly as possible on this case. I'm just so impressed by how good SLC Unified Police have become in recent years. First Operation Rio Grande and now this case really give me so much confidence in them.

Phone records show Ajayi was in Logan Canyon on June 25. When detectives searched the canyon @SimGillDA says detectives found a "charred human body" in a shallow grave in a grove of trees off the main road. Hands zipped tied behind back. DNA testing fit #MacKenzieLueck

Ajayi’s phone pinged at Logan Canyon on June 25. Detectives located “disturbed area of soil, and a charred human body.” Mackenzie’s arms were bound by a zip tie and rope. Part of her left scalp was missing. Autopsy showed she suffered blunt force trauma to skull. #MackenzieLueck

DA: #MackenzieLueck's hands were bound behind her back with a zip tie, and a portion of her skull was fractured. Manner of death has been deemed as homicide. #ksltv

The blunt force trauma was to the left side of her head, and the DA said that it was the cause of death. I had a momentary hope that perhaps he blindsided her and hit her on the left side of her head right in the Hatch Park parking lot (to spare her any ongoing horror) but if she had died or been disabled right then, it wouldn't seem necessary to ziptie her hands behind her back. :(
Edited to add: Someone else suggested that AA didn't know the blow had killed her, so he ziptied her right there in the car fro when she "woke up", but she never did. This is a more comforting possibility, as at least this spares her continued contact with him.

I simply have no f.....ing words.
What has happened to our culture

DA officially charges Ayoola Ajayi with first-degree murder of MacKenzie Lueck
Ayoola Adisa Ajayi, 31, is now officially charged with first-degree felony aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping, desecration of a body and misdemeanor obstruction of justice.

[...]

Gill says no deal has been made, and the death penalty is a possibility, but it won’t be known until after the preliminary hearing.

Gill says the investigation is still "open" and "active."

[...]

While serving a search warrant at Ajayi's house on June 26, police found some of Lueck's personal belongings, human bone, part of a scalp among other charred items buried in the backyard. The DNA matched Lueck's.

A neighbor told police Ajayi was pouring gasoline on the burning site shortly after Lueck went missing.

Investigators later located her body, July 5, in a wooded area in a shallow grave with brush over it in Logan Canyon.

Cell phone records placed Ajayi in the canyon where Lueck's remains were found.

After a length search, detectives found a charred human body. Her arms were bound behind her back with rope. She suffered blunt force trauma to the skull "which could have been fatal," Gill said.

As in any case, the presumption of innocence is there....we feel very comfortable with the charging decisions we have made.

Not going to discuss the communications between ML and AA (he implied that more will come out regarding their relationship, later.)

I was hoping the same thing. Blunt force trauma to the left side of her head while in the passenger seat of his car - didn't see it coming. Then he took her phone and powered it down and brought her back to his house to dispose of the body. That last part doesn't make sense and of course, the zip tied wrists wouldn't fit with this scenario. Maybe he didn't realize he'd killed her in the car, just incapacitated, and then tied her hands and brought her to his house only to realize the blow to the head had killed her. I'm so saddened by this. My heart aches for her family.

I hope there's a way to get full justice for Kenzie without a trial, in order to spare her family more trauma...
