I would think if they were friends, though, there would be no need to meet in the park like that, especially since she didn't have the final for a couple of days.

I guess this is what's been so hard for my mind to wrap around is for her to feel comfortable enough with him to meet him at that time of night in a park right after her flight back from her grandma's funeral and so far away from where both of them lived but for the meeting not to include just going to straight to one of their homes or him picking her up at the airport.

As of right now, my theory is that they connected on a dating app and had been in contact because of that, though I don't know whether that meant they had met before in person or if she was actually interested in dating him or had just sort of befriended him (in her mind).

MOO a date with a stranger, with no way to leave on her own; it just seems impossible.

I agree with others that maybe she felt safe meeting near a police station . Maybe AA parked in the park and not too close to the PD on purpose.
So ML just had Lyft pull up near him.
I believe that they may have met online ,had an online relationship through texting & maybe met once before. Knowing he has lied his whole life , he probably said he was a SD with lots of money.
For all we know , he could have bought ML gifts or had sent her money to further his lie.
He could have begged her , hounded her nonstop and somehow convinced her to meet him at 3am cause he “ missed” her.
Maybe ML thought it was finally her chance to break it off and let him know that she wasn’t interested in him especially if he bothered her constantly.
And as we have read , I can then imagine him going into a rage and doing the horrible things he did to her ..JMO ..

Agree with this. That's why I lean toward the intended nature of the encounter being a little more transactional than strictly social.

I just have a hard time seeing her agreeing to meeting him there at that time if she expected a confrontation. As @Boxer noted, she's stuck there with no transportation of her own. I don't think she (or most women or men for that matter) would choose to have an emotionally upsetting conversation with someone where she's trapped in their vehicle and dependent on them to get her home.

I hope KL and the Lyft driver had some sort of conversation perhaps she talked about things such as the guy she was meeting that he was a friend, boyfriend, first date etc. I always would make conversation with my passengers because I’m a friendly person plus it was late at night early morning a conversation would make her feel more comfortable with her driver especially if a male. I’m sure he has shared a lot of info with LE that is pertinent to the investigation but has not been leaked to media after all AA was a suspect fairly early on in the investigation after they learned of the text messages and lied about knowing her. If they released what the Lyft driver knew and told them it would have scared him off even sooner to start covering his tracks which he is terrible at anyway.

It would make sense if she had suggested a neutral spot so he didn't find out where she lived. It would have also been awkward had she asked her supplier to pick her up from the airport.

I can confirm that there are many students (some within the greek system) who Kenzie also knew, who did sell Adderall and others. In the greek system, it is common to be friends with people who sell them. This doesn't mean you're buying from them however. I am posting this to say if this is what she was interested in (not at all saying that is the case), she could have bought from a variety of people in the greek/uni circles that she personally actually knew.

I want to emphasize to those who might be jumping in later on in this case: The drug link is pure speculation at this point. There is no verified information anywhere saying she was even into drugs.

As her friend and from what I know, I am pretty confident in my thoughts that she was not meeting up with this person for drugs.

That is smart, but honestly everyone I know buys and sells online and I don't know a single person who meets at the Police station. They either meet at one of the buyer/sellers house or meet at a carpool etc. I personally always make my bf meet people because I am paranoid, but I just don't think the general public is even remotely aware of how dangerous life is.

IMO you are above average careful and it is not common for people especially youth to act in such a way. I am in Canada though so maybe we are just more careless here.

I’ve been selling new electronics on Craigslist for 6 yrs when I find good deals. I sell in my local area of OC CA. I am a woman and it’s safer to meet at lobby of PD. I sold on eBay many years with 100% FB powerseller but got ripped off by too many buyers too many times and with EBay and PayPal fees taking such a high percentage not worth it to me.

No way she was texting on a flight (esp. not Southwest). But all airplanes require a phone go off or on airplane mode. Still, it's possible if she didn't have a battery back-up that indeed, the phone was on low battery (she flew from LA to SFO to Salt Lake), so about 6 hours in transit. Most people take chargers though, and she would have had opportunities to charge in the terminal.

Kenzie went to the gym OFTEN. She was very passionate about working out and loved going to the gym. She had weight loss goals and was reaching those with a healthier life style and working out. No I guess it can't be completely ruled out but I think this is less likely.

Another way she could've connected with AA. Those modeling pics of his show someone dedicated to fitness and working out (at least in the past).

And even if the SB lifestyle DID play a role, you would still presumably practice safety measures within that situation.

Perhaps they had been texting back and forth big deal and she just thought of him as an online friend someone to talk to but was not interested in him sexually or physically and he knew that and wouldn’t accept it and perhaps used the ruse to meet and talk to trap her into something more.

Why do people think just because a woman text a man naturally means she wants to be with him. She could have thought of him as a friend and underneath his fake exterior he wanted more and was going to have her whether she wanted him or not.

But if he was an online friend, and she had no interest in him romantically/physically, why agree to meet him at a deserted park at 3 am, and get in his car. What was the purpose?

If someone is regularly relying on Adderall to study they may become addicted to the drug, and if they become physically dependent then they will go through withdrawal when they attempt to stop using them.

While Adderall does work for studying, the benefits rarely outweigh the risks.

Sorry, I’ve got to disagree with some of this article. No need to debate it here. But can’t just let this stand for truth.

Although I have never done cocaine I have taken adderral for years. There is no “come down” effect at all UNLESS you are snorting adderral or using it in doses not as prescribed. Sometimes you might feel a bit tired for an hour as it wears off if already tired. This is referred to as a crash. There is no feeling anxious or depressed coming down from this at all.

Additionally, I think many psychiatrists would tell you that often someone seeking adderral may possibly have undiagnosed add.

Just imho if someone is using adderral regularly by buying illegally, they will likely see a dr. and get a script for it. It’s not difficult to do.

Off topic of timelines, and more about painting a picture of the neighborhood.

I would say the Fairpark/Rose park area is becoming desirable, as it's among the last affordable areas in SLC. Real estate people are all calling it the "up and coming" neighborhood. It's estimated that about 70% of school kids right now are Hispanic. But it's being slowly gentrified. It's very close to downtown, on the train line to the airport and has affordable prices.

I lived in NYC and it reminds me of what happened to Williamsburg Brooklyn in the late 90's early 2000's. Older area with lower prices. Large ethnic communities. One subway stop to the East Village. That's where the artists, musicians, and poor college kids went as they were priced out of Manhattan but didn't want the longer commute from Jersey or Long Island. Two decades later, it's one of the most expensive areas in the city.

If you're looking for investment in SLC, this is a place you will buy low and sell high.

My son enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Utah last fall. He and his wife met with a realtor who tried to sell the Rose Park area as the next Sugar House. Not. Well, not yet anyway.

Great point. There could be a completely innocent explanation for that park meeting, the fact he didn’t pick her up at the airport, and why she wasn’t dropped off directly at his house.

There could also be a completely innocent explanation for her phone going dead, almost as soon as she entered that vehicle.

I’m sure he’s also got a completely innocent explanation for lying to law enforcement about his previous contact with Kenzie (texts and location data).

And those pictures in his phone.

And her partial remains in his backyard.

And his trip to the canyon that led law enforcement to her body.

And all the rest that we aren’t privy to yet.

We’ve been discussing the park pickup for days, and debating whether this was premeditated or not.

Taken as a whole, it isn’t a stretch to see it as an organized effort to make his connection to Kenzie not only a dead end, but nonexistent to begin with.

But no, we won’t know until later as to if he intended this.
