Plus if she needed a little break, then why not just tell a fellow student that you'll be gone for a few days??

She wasn't dressed for cold conditions either, and as she didn't have a car herself, someone must have taken her to near the National Park. It's a 2 hour drive.

And a mental health break doesn't mean radio silence for 3 days/nights.

Why would she put anyone through this worry? Especially her parents and greater Mormon family.....

To be fair, someone in the grips of a mental health crises may not be thinking clearly. Some may even think their friends and loved ones will be better off without them. I hope that's not the case here.

Wish they had kept the footage running until she moved off-screen… GBB is there an exit from snow hall on the side of the building that faces center street where you say cars commonly pull over to pick someone up? Curious if they’ve got the car/whoever she was looking for on camera from another side of the building. It seems very clear from this footage that she was looking for/anticipating seeing someone. I agree with other comment that she even stopped short before pushing the door open and looked that way to see if they were there.

I’m a bit puzzled now why this is the last known sighting of her. Cell phone records will show the number of who saw her last/was waiting for her outside. I would think she’s still on her parent’s plan so you wouldn’t think it would be difficult to get the records. I’ve heard it is difficult to get them for a missing adult on their own plan, though.

On the west side of the building there is an exit to Center Street. Her room might be closer to the east exit, maybe she went that way to avoid seeing someone, or maybe there is a girls exit and a boys exit (I'm not an expert on Snow Hall.) I do not recall seeing any outside facing cameras on Snow Hall. I'm sure police have her phone records by now, hence why they were asking for camera footage in Loa. Earlier in the thread the Quora account that is apparently related to her indicated that she's been using Kik. If that's the case in this situation, they might not have good records for who she was in contact with.

As we've seen in other cases, a lot of messaging apps (FB Messenger, WhatsApp, Signal, Snapchat, etc.) use data, rather than cellular minutes or text messages, and are much harder/impossible to track (the warrants take months). Mekayla Bali is one such case; CCTV shows her seeming to communicate with/waiting for someone throughout the day before she disappeared.

Kik (mentioned on Maddie's Quora profile) also comes up in the Bali case; at the time, police were sounding the alarm about it having few parental controls and strangers to contact others without connecting/being "friends." (source)

Just trying to analyse the video footage of her leaving.
So random thoughts below.

She does seem to walk with a bit of delicacy and trepidation, she's not confidently striding off like she knows what she's doing.

She also doesn't look down or check her pockets or bag before she goes out the door, just to do a last check that she has everything. (I always do that, I usually forget something.)

A small thin plastic carry bag, well, that's interesting. She obviously has other bags, small backpacks, day bags etc, otherwise how does she carry her things to class?

I think this was supposed to be a short evening trip for her....the clothing she's wearing and what she took (not much) in a little plastic bag, don't speak of any longevity.

Based on the Kik Law Enforcement Guide, they are going to have to figure out her username if they want to be able to get any data from Kik. They have less than one month left before whatever she talked about on Quora is lost forever to Kik's 90 day data retention policy. (Edit-- they only store images for 30 days, not 90 days. Whatever pictures concerned her in October are gone.) I tried all of the usernames associated with her other accounts as I could, and I did not get a match to a valid Kik username. Hopefully she emailed or texted her Kik username to the person who picked her up (if that's how the communicated) or she used another common-to-her username that we aren't aware of. If they can't find her username, I guess they will have to look for phones that pinged together. Maybe that will be doable since they spent a lot of time together on empty rural roads. If the driver didn't turn their phone on, though...

Other edit: I'm a little blown away by Kik's law enforcement request form for emergency disclosure requests (which are for when the subject is in imminent risk of harm or death.) It says, "We’re looking forward to helping you! Please note that if your ticket is profane or disrespectful to our support team, you may not receive a response and will be blocked from contacting us again." So if a frustrated officer gets a little terse with their description, Kik could just refuse to respond?

I can't stop thinking about the quora post. If it's real and it was actually her, then it sounds like she's been planning this. Maybe she felt like she was going to fail her midterms and was looking for some way out and wanted to stage her own kidnapping. Maybe that was her first plan, but then decided to just disappear herself. This is just speculation/my opinion. Sounds like the police know a lot more than we do though right now. Hope they find her safely and praying for her safe return.

IMO I see a very innocent, sheltered girl who is trusting and vulnerable. From the Quora link earlier, she was interested in getting more piercings and seemed like she was “growing up” a little, but for age 19 she seemed to act much younger.

I think if this were a case of self harm, she couldn’t have gone far, but after 4 days there is no sign of her.

My #1 theory is she was communicating online, trusted someone, and was catfished. MOO

... been thinking that her "kidnap me" ('somebody get me the hell out of here') message, and the proximity of Life Launch, may have given her choice of what she wanted to do, and didn't want anyone to try and talk her out of it (or interfere). She looked 'together' in the brief exit video, looking for her ride....hope that's a good sign....

I'm telling you all something you probably already tried, but I played back on the slowest setting. She has a bag full of items. Just as she touches the door, she's starts looking out to the right and continues looking to the right as she walks out. Then the video stops. I hope someone she knows picked her up and she is safe and warm.

i agree that she was walking almost as if not to make any noise, like you would if you were sneaking out. She hesitates at the door, looks to the right, exits and looks to the right again. I think she met someone outside.

That someone probably had a vehicle. I suspected that she was going to study with someone. But would she not tell anyone? Was it a teacher that she met? That might be one reason not to talk.

The vehicle (if there was one) was waiting out of view of door area. Might there be another camera in the street, or on the south side of Snow Hall or on the building across the street that would have caught the vehicle in that time frame? Or somewhere in the vicinity while they were leaving from the general area?
I hope LE has something. Didn't they also check out surveillance in Loa?
