I've camped a little west of that spot and it goes on forever! Huge area to search, but in this case (sadly) the searching would be limited to a short distance off a road, the distance someone could carry or pull 120 pounds. Unless that person used a sled to get further off-road!

SLED. He shouldn't have mentioned SLEDDING!

Also, I read that LE took some furniture from the house to examine. What if Susan really DID have an earache, an inner ear infection with vertigo, dizziness, nausea (like labyrinthitis)... If she were pushed and hit her head on a table in the livingroom... that could explain LE taking a piece of furniture from the house and the wet floor (blood or her having thrown up from being sick)....?????

Men with control issues generally do not adapt well to changes in what they consider their well-laid plans.
I suspect that Josh thought that he had Susan's murder and his alibi all wrapped up in a nice, neat, orderly plan. He had assumed that Susan's family would not be aware that she was missing until he returned from disposing of the body and had a chance to finish cleaning up. He did not consider the possibility of a snowstorm or the fact that a more reasonable person would never take a sudden, overnight camping trip alone with a baby and a toddler in the middle of winter when their wife was home sick. When the unexpected circumstances came up, he did what control freaks do- he stuck with "The Plan" and refused to cooperate with police. He stuck with "The Plan", because he is a control freak...he does not adapt.

Joshua Powell told police that he last saw his wife around 12:30 a.m. before he and the boys left for their trip and that she didn't go along because she was feeling sick.
Yet Helliwell said she talked to Susan Powell on Sunday and she wasn't sick. Police told ABC News they were unable to verify Joshua Powell's camping trip because snow had covered the spot where he said they went.
The West Valley City Police found Susan Powell's purse and keys in her bedroom and say there was no sign of forced entry at the house.

A week after Utah mom Susan Powell disappeared without a trace, police have few clues despite days of searching, hours of interviews and thousands of missing-person fliers.

...

"She's been gone for an entire week. I don't believe there can be any, very much hope left," a tearful Kiirsi Helliwell, Powell's best friend, told ABC News. "I'm trying to stay busy and not think about it. But I don't see how there's any way she can still be alive."

....

Joshua Powell said he decided Sunday night to take the children on a late-night camping trip.

The temperature that night was between 10 and 25 degrees with rain and snow.

Where did the story come from that Josh wanted Susan to go camping? And as we've already discussed, if he actually talked to her, why didn't he know the next day was Monday & why would Susan agree to let him take the boys camping?

More bad reporting or more 'facts'?

After reading everything on this case I first thought that this was not premeditated because of JP's statements and actions. But part of me thinks this may have been planned. i have one question, was this the first big storm to hit the area? was there plenty of warning that a storm was coming? could he have set his plan in motion knowing a storm was coming and that would have made finding her body almost impossible? i also think he may have put something in her food since he cooked dinner to make her an 'easy kill'. JMO

I've been thinking along the same lines. Planned to make sure the storm would cover up evidence. The story might sound hinky, but thinking "no way" isn't the same thing as proving a crime.

She could have been given something that would make her groggy and disoriented, so she came along willingly. We have only his word that she didn't go on the camping trip, and the kid's strange comment about mommy staying in the woods to indicate maybe she did.

eta: I thought the kid's comment was in a news story, but apparently it's just in somebody's comment, so probably not worth counting.

Josh Powell called Cox on Tuesday to say Susan was still missing.
"I wanted to ask him a bunch of questions, but he was on the way to the police," Cox said. "When he said she's missing, his voice kind of cracked."
Cox said he's had a "decent relationship" with his son-in-law."He confides in me at times, and we've worked through problems that they've had with his employment and stuff," Cox said. "There are so many questions I would ask, but I'm not really planning on talking to him."

AS IF! Like she wouldn't have mentioned having to work the next day. Even if she wasn't feeling well and planning to go, she would have reminded Josh that he had to work. Unless she was super out of it with fever or something, but I don't buy that she was sick at all.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but it appears the campground he claims to have gone to is about 3 hours away from their home. I didn't realize it was so far. So you're going to drive 2 small children 3 hours away in the middle of the night to make S'mores in freezing cold temperatures when you have to work the next day, but oops you forgot it was Sunday and somehow your wife forgot it was Sunday too even though she had been to church earlier that day.

The more he talks the more unbelievable it gets.

Interesting blog posts. It appears this woman's husband sat next to Susan at work.

ETA: Updated link so it's all on one page. Scroll down past the cheer-leading post and you'll see the Susan Powell info.

ETA Again: This woman claims her husband sat next to Susan at work. Patty G. brings up a good point below and I agree. Remember anyone can claim anything on a blog.

That one comment about Susan feeling like she was in danger & "took precautions" may explain why the family called LE when they couldn't get in touch with them.

Not looking good. :(

We have to be really careful when reading personal "blogs" because anyone can write anything about any case.

I'm guessing the results from evidence items taken from the home last week will be in this week and the only question LE will pose to Josh is "Where did you put Susan's body!" If luminol was used on the carpet, traces of blood would have been found, if it was indeed blood. The fans were taken from the home and probably dusted for prints on the plug ends to give evidence as to who had plugged them in. The sled may have been taken and tested as well. When LE has all the answers they can obtain from the evidence then the final question will be asked of Josh, "Where did you leave her body!"
LE is not stupid, they know exactly what they are doing...before they question Josh any further they will have rock solid, air tight evidence that proves he killed Susan. They can then get Josh to fess up by offering to go easier on him or by threatening to slam him to the wall. My prediction is that by the end of the week Josh will be arrested and charged with Susan's murder. I just hope he knows exactly where he disposed of her body and that he tells LE so that she can be easily and quickly recovered.

A compressor, or a generator?

Now I'm confused.

Still, he would still need a power source to run the compressor out there in the woods.

Unless he has one of them power converters and he ran it from his car battery. Not practical, though.

Oh I am so sorry, generator! not compresser..........I am one who doesn't know tools.

Blog of Susan's best friend, Kiirsi.

Not much inside info, but it really gives you an idea what the friends and family are put through with the media. Bless her heart for doing everything she can to keep Susan in the spotlight.

ETA: Sorry, the blog of a person who claims to be Susan's best friend. Patty G. brought up a good point, although I definitely think this is legit.

We are all so worried about her and the snow and cold........did LE check her COATS? BOOTS?
well, I haven't seen Josh worried about this at all...............

Just seeing Susan's video, makes me cry, how beautiful she was.
Such beautiful healthy sons.
Why oh why during the holidays???
Why Josh shut up and not pleaing for his beautiful wife???
This alone makes me really believe he did something horrible to her.
Let's hope he breaks down and tells!!
I wonder if we will hear more today about Josh's employment status, forensic tests in etc???
