What did I miss? Did he ever say he was being bullied?
Not as far as being reported. Seems like some posters for whatever reason are speculating without any basis or for whatever reason want to turn killer into a victim.
As far as we know he was an employee in good standing that said he was going to quit. The motive so far remains a mystery.

But a person close to Virginia Beach’s city government, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said that the suspect had no history of behavioral problems until recently, when he had begun acting strangely and getting into physical “scuffles” with other city workers.

The person said that tensions had escalated in the past week, adding that the man had gotten into a violent altercation on city grounds and was told that disciplinary action would be taken.

No. And I am sorry if anyone thought that I was "victim blaming". I was just speculating on possible reasons why someone would feel rage and powerlessness.

And even if the shooter had felt "bullied", there is no excuse for a murderous rampage.

“A man who survived a mass shooting at a Virginia Beach government building despite crossing paths with the gunman three times has revealed that he thought it was an elaborately staged drill.”

“Ned Carlstrom says he didn't realize the severity of the situation until he looked outside the municipal building where he works and saw a team of police officers aiming their guns at the structure and leaving behind a pool of blood as they dragged a fatally wounded contractor from the inside.”

Sorry, but I thought that was obvious.

Thank you for this informative link.

Imo, it shows it was the mass murderer himself who was the one actually bullying his coworkers.

I dont understand why he wasn't immediately fired on the spot for his violent altercations.

No business can tolerate any of these abhorrent actions in any workplace. It must be handled immediately. He should have been fired immediately, and afterwards they should have placed an armed security guard posted on any of the entry doors he would most likely enter if he returned, and could have immediately stop him DEAD in his tracks right then.

Imo He already knew he was going to be dismissed for his violent behavior against his coworker so he resigned rather than them firing him.

He already knew they were going to fire him, and that is the very reason he carefully planned in advance before resigning to murder others in mass.. rather than taking the blame for his own violent actions he had already done against others.

He strikes me as the type who thinks he was always right, and everyone else on the planet was wrong.

Typical traits of a narcisstist who must always see themselves as the poor little victim instead of the victimizer they truly are.

Imo, he certainly was no victim. It's obvious he was the victimizer/bully instead even before he came in planning to murder as many innocent people in mass.

I wonder how he got the silencer/suppressor. It usually takes a year to get a permit from BATF and you still have to form a family trust. I wonder if he made his own?
A trust is the recommended method, but you can apply for one as individual on the Form 4 and it is slightly faster going that route. You're looking at about 180-225 days for BATF approval. What I'm wondering is the fact that even though they are legal in Virginia, they are illegal in Virginia Beach per city ordinance.

I am starting to question that anonymous source that claimed killer exhibited signs of violence. City officials and police seem to be claiming they can't find anything as to why the killer did it. Killers' resignation letter is also very polite and says he has to resign because of personal issues.
“Right now we do not have anything glaring,” said Police Chief James Cervera. “There’s nothing that hits you right between the eyes. But we are working on it.”
Gunman's resignation email gave no hint of bloodshed to come

The aloof behavior and the number of cameras around his house make me think that he was very mentally ill. I don't think he did this for any reason that will make sense to any of us.

Lots of people nowdays have cameras. I am not sure what that proves. He was also recently divorced. That could be misconstrued as "aloof" because he was living by himself.

A lot of videos out there on shooting suppressors. This is one of the better ones I've found because the person demonstrating is measuring the sound in decibels and he tests 6 different .45 guns. Note the first, a 1911 type .45, is unsuppressed for comparison and it is in the 161 decibel range. The next 6 guns vary from low to mid 130 decibel range. Of course, this shooting the suppressors dry and you could, for a short period of time, have a lower sound by adding 3-5 cc's of light oil or water.

VIRGINIA BEACH
The mass shooter who killed 12 people and injured four more in Virginia Beach Friday was much like the others.
[...]
Those closest to DeWayne Craddock, including his parents and former wife, have declined to speak to reporters.

His motive, like that of the Las Vegas shooter who murdered 58 people at a musical festival in 2017, remains a mystery.

Craddock used a .45 caliber handgun and brought multiple extended magazines that were emptied by the time officers shot him. He died a short time later. Virginia Beach and other Hampton Roads communities have been left reeling in the wake of the tragedy.

Experts say mass shooters almost always have a personal grievance. There are similarities, though no two are the same.
[...]
Craddock spent much of Friday, the day of the shootings, working.

At some point, he emailed a resignation letter. Exactly when is unknown because the city redacted the email’s time stamp. Craddock cited unexplained personal reasons for putting in his two weeks’ notice.

He reported to a job site at the intersection of Haden and King William roads and was there until 2:30 p.m. or 3 p.m., according to sources with knowledge of the meeting.

About an hour later, around 4 p.m., Craddock began shooting his co-workers.

The local medical examiner's office on Wednesday released the cause of death for each of the 12 victims of last week's mass shooting at the city's Municipal Center, revealing that all but three had been shot in the head.

Those who sustained shots to the head included Michelle "Missy" Langer; Tara Welch Gallagher; Mary Louise Gayle; Alexander Mikhail Gusev; Katherine A. Nixon; Herbert "Bert" Snelling; LaQuita C. Brown; Robert "Bobby" Williams; and Richard H. Nettleton, according to an email from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office.

Christopher Kelly Rapp died from a gunshot to the torso; Ryan Keith Cox from shots to his torso and neck; and Joshua O. Hardy died from multiple gunshots, the email said.

From the Virginia Beach Pilot:

Kate Nixon was a fixer.

As a supervisor in the public utilities department for a decade, she solved problems for the city and was described as logical and level-headed.

So when she told her husband, Jason, that she had concerns about two of her co-workers, he knew it was serious. She didn't like to be around DeWayne Craddock, a fellow engineer — he gave off "real bad vibes" and she'd had to write him up several times for issues with performance and attitude. They both worked on the second floor of Building 2 in the Municipal Center.

But on the night of May 30, it was another man she was most worried about. Kate told her husband that the man, whom Jason Nixon declined to identify, was set to be fired Friday and there was supposed to be a police escort on scene when it happened. While cooking dinner, she expressed her concerns.

"She said, 'This guy's going to come back and shoot the place up,' " Jason Nixon said. He encouraged his wife to hide a pistol in her purse and take it to work — she had training and knew how to use it — but she didn't want to break city policy forbidding employees from bringing weapons to work.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 31, it was Craddock who opened fire in Building 2, killing Kate and 11 others.

Her family is now pushing the city for answers. An attorney and longtime family friend has sent the city an email on their behalf requesting officials release all records related to the gunman and launch an independent investigation.

Heart-wrenching :(
"He said, 'she died,' and walked away," Nixon said. "That's how they notified me my wife was dead."

May 31 started early for Jason and Kate — he had to rise for work and she got up at 4 a.m. to make him lunch. At 3:42 p.m., they chatted on the phone about dinner and one of the girls' softball games that night.

At 4:06 p.m., she called again to tell him she’d been shot and asked him to call 911. He did immediately, but when he tried to call her back, he got no response.

So he hopped in his car and rushed to the municipal center, arriving just as police sealed it off from the public.

With no word of what was happening to his wife and feeling helpless, he paced around the area. At one point, the family thought Kate was at a local hospital, but when they checked, they couldn't find her. Later they were directed to a family reunification center at Princess Anne Middle School. Late in the night, a police officer walked into the classroom and asked if he was next of kin for Katherine Nixon.

"He said, 'she died,' and walked away," Nixon said. "That's how they notified me my wife was dead."

Through the next day, he didn't know where Kate's body was. "Nobody from the city told me where my wife was. It was heart wrenching."

Kate knew Donna Price, an administrator for the medical examiner's office, through her work with the Pembroke Meadows Civic League. Kate's family learned where she was when Price called Saturday.

"Donna called me and said, 'Jason, I have Katie,' " Nixon said. She told him she'd sat with Kate's body and prayed over her for hours.

So one of the victims told her husband that she had concerns about 2 employees and one of them was Craddock. Poor quality of work and poor attitude.

I think back to what the city manager said about Craddock and that he was a "satisfactory" employee. "Satisfactory". I remember hearing an attorney one time being asked about how to respond when another employer asked for a written statement on a former employee they were considering. This former employee was definitely a problem employee, but his previous employer was concerned about what to put in writing. The attorney said to simply state in one sentence that the former employee's work was "adequate" or that he was a "satisfactory" employee. IOW, faint praise - if it could be called praise. You're not saying they were a poor performer, but you're not really praising them either. It makes me wonder what the city manager intended with his statement about Craddock.

Yes, victim Kate Nixon had concern about 2 co-workers:
1. Craddock, the mass murderer.
2. Another man who was to be fired May 31. << Was this man one of the victims? Or is he alive and could be another potential threat?

Virginia Beach city manager gives update on municipal center shooting investigation

Hansen also addressed the fact that in the week since the last briefing, there have been “rumors, inuendo, conflicting theories and speculation,” including that one of the names that was redacted from the shooter’s resignation letter was that of Katherine Nixon‘s and reports that the shooter was “confrontational, argumentative and engaging in fights.”

He said “the investigation has not uncovered evidence corroborating these allegations.”

Hanson said once authorities have completed the entire criminal investigation – from both the FBI and police – and the Commonwealth’s Attorney has reviewed it, they will determine whether to conduct an independent investigation.
