I should have said, my own opinion....I guess what I should have said,,,is this,,,MY faith is not open for debate.....I would not try to "push" my beliefs on anyone else,,,I made a statement,,,When people speak so freely about occults, evil music lyrics,,sadistic blood ,gore and such, my heart is heavy that this is so readily accepted. I do not apologise for being who I am...

No need to apologize for being who you are...

But understand that those of us who are not Christians have encountered two different threads of Christianity it seems. One is gracious, forgiving, and focused on helping the less fortunate. It is highly admirable...San Francisco's Reverand Cecil Williams comes to mind. SickTanick mentions that his brother is a "true Christian" in his interview with PiXy.

It is the other thread of Christianity that most of us non-Christians seem to have trouble with. There are those that call themselves Christians that are ready to judge others without ever looking inward at themselves. They judge people for how they dress, the music they listen to, their sexual preferences, etc. In case of any disagreement they always fall back on scripture which of course they quote extensively from, but only selectively, forgetting the bits about turning the other cheek, not casting the first stone, and universal forgiveness. This leads to a pervasive strain of hypocrisy, for example as we see with the various televangelists involved in scandalous relationships against their own professed beliefs.

They often ignore the history of their own traditions and beliefs which seem to be mostly based on taking a book literally despite the facts that this book is known to be a biased translation of a translation of the original texts. It is called the King James Bible for a reason. See also http://www.angelfire.com/co/JeffersonBible/

From where I sit, literalist Christianity posits supernatural forces that I see no evidence for, while at the same time ignoring the values of their own tradition and scriptures as psychological and moral advice. This version of Christianity is highly debatable and deserves to be debated when ever it is promoted. IMO.

And BTW yes I am purposely omitting mention of the movie 2012 which is out now because, well, it is crap.

Looking back to my youth, I always wanted to go to law school,,,but never had anyone who cared enough to support anything I ever did or tried to do,,,,This subject matter has grabbed me , and I appreciate the law scholars for their opinion,,,and especially ziggy,,with her getdown self.....I always loved to dance down to a good beach tune.....Shagging anyone??????

GURRLLL...I can shag! One of my besties lives in Myrtle beach and she and hubby are shag champions...woo hoo. It's so fun.

I always wanted to go to law school and I'm doing it now at 48! There is always time and I had to quit looking to others for encouragement and forget about the outcome of ANYTHING and just focus on the process.

I like having you here VA girl and the other locals. If you've never lived in the South or Northeast or even the Midwest it's hard to appreciate how different everyone is (especially from Californians, lol).

Well, now that I've watched "Zeitgeist" and a few of the rebuttals and comments about it, I am feeling like walking off a cliff.

At least Ronson is funny.....

Well look on the bright side, now you can being to unpack one line in SickTanick's song 2012.

"We've got no money, that's fine. Why? Because you've got a soul to sell."

Oh My,,,,,I guess I really have to watch what I say here....Is there another meaning to shagging????? Shag dancing like the "Myrtle Beach" kind of shagging music...It was a spin off on the "Bop"....from the 50"s....If everything I say gets turned around, and made to mean more than it really does,,,I don't know what to say......I have never experienced this type of thing since I joined WS...

Ah. I'm only aware of the definition DM mentioned and I had no idea it is also a type of dance. I'm not familiar with the Bop. Or Myrtle Beach. Apologies: I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable.

In light of the recent "Joanie on the Pony" vandalism, CHI feels it is necessary to reflect on the long history that Longwood has with Joan of Arc. Our campus's relationship with Joan of Arc dates back to 1911, when the graduating class of Longwood (then called the State Normal School) adopted her image to be our patron saint by purchasing "Joanie on the Stony". Being an all-female school back then it was not a far stretch to think that Joan, in all of her lure, would be a perfect fit. The question that remains is if the 1911 graduating class at the State Normal School realized just how big of an impact Joan of Arc would have on the campus and its students? Years later in 1927, the Joan Circle of Alpha Delta Rho (known today as the Geist Chapter of Mortar Board) made the arrangements for "Joanie on the Stony" to sit in the Colonnade, so as to greet students on their way from the student building to the east wing of the Rotunda. Engraved on the marble base that holds Joan is "Who in the moment of victory remains inaccessible to vanity and hate. Who in the midst of popular enthusiasm lives in humility and prayer. Who in the universal crush of ambition covets neither profit nor honours." Joan's selflessness, courage, spirituality, and vigor echoes in her story and graces our campus with her presence. She has sat quietly at the entrance of Longwood for almost 100 years now; observing decades upon decades of students come and go. Next time you pass either "Joanie on the Stony", or "Joanie on the Pony" we challenge you to take some time and listen to what she has to say.

Joanie on the Pony before Vandalism

No Joanie

Joan of Arc was famous for hearing voices and she was burned at the stake for heresy in what most historians feel was a politically motivated set up. Her companion in arms Gilles de Rais was famous for his dealings in the occult and for the murder and mutilation of children.

My research has uncovered some very interesting links between CHI and vanity. WWJD (Joan that is)

http://www.target.com/s/176-9365266...ge=1&searchRank=target104545&LNM=red_chi_hair

I don't know about that, but it seems that there are a lot of superstitions around Longwood including about these statues. E.g.

And oh yeah. I can't believe I almost forgot. Our Joanie on the Pony went AWOL. Our guiding figure or something as Joan of Arc. We have two statues of her, one on the walkway to French, known as Joanie on the Pony, and one in Ruffner, known as Joanie on the Stonie (we're cool enough to make up our own rhymes).

There are lots of traditions and myths about those statues. Like if you touch Joanie on the Stonie's hands or feet it's supposed to be good luck. Same with touching Joanie on the Pony. But if you touch Joanie on the Pony and she feels warm it's supposedly a sign saying you're going to die. And also if you're walking in a group,, you can't split around her or it's bad luck.

But anywaysssss, to get back on topic, she went missing. A lot of people, mostly people who live in French, were freaking out. Who stole Joanie on the Pony? Is it a prank? How did they do it? Facebook statuses went wild. In the end, it turns out someone DID damage her last night, and a LU organization took her away for restoration. Not quite as interesting a story as we could've hoped but at the same time we're anxious to have her back. We miss you Joanie!!

So the statue is mysteriously vandalized and CHI has it. The remaining secret/non-existent CHI tunnels apparently run right under this statue as well. FWIW.

Surprise surprise.

I'm afraid you are going to be very disappointed if you every make it to visit Farmville. After having just spent 4 years at a university in what's supposed to be that university's most selective major, I can tell you todays college kids are not in general an especially impressive lot, particularly those who come from public schools in Virginia. Public education is in a state of serious crisis.

We do have a handful of great public schools, I've met several kids who went to Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, a magnet school there and they are impressive. We have some great private schools that have risen above their original purpose as segregation academies.

Longwood doesn't draw the kids from those places though. It was a normal school for much of its history, a teacher training school for those of you who don't know what a normal college is. It's tried to remake itself and a lot of money has been thrown at that effort, but there isn't anything there to draw more highly qualified students. http://bluwiki.com/go/Longwood_University_Sucks

Lots of the kids there come from small towns in the southern part of the state and have had dismal rural public school educations. They've finally gotten away from home for a while. They have nothing to do, and a whole lot of pressure to conform to a new way of life and having old school traditions to follow makes that break with their past more distinct and gives them something to drive the sheer boredom away.

Fly out to Virginia, I'll give you a place to stay about an hours drive away, a distance which you will be thankful for unless you really have a thing for towns that don't even have a decent coffee shop. I'll make that offer despite this primarily being a thread about what can go dramatically wrong when you do that. I can almost guarantee you that you will not find those people as interesting in person as you do when you research them online.

Hmm. You underestimate me Blou. I've already read the Longwood Sucks page of course, but there isn't much there that seems unusual. FYI my oldest is about to graduate from high school in California which makes the Virginia public schools look like Harvard.

Seriously, the number and variety of ghost stories, superstitions, and occult related traditions at Longwood is unusual. It has the most ghost stories associated with it of any public school in Virginia according to thespook.org, "Out of all the public colleges and universities in Virginia, Longwood has the most ghost stories and isn't even the oldest university in Virginia, that is owned by William and Mary, which was founded in 1693."

Personally I find it a bit unusual that CHI is issuing a statement about the vandalized statue rather than a university employee. It is an indication of the continuing influence this group has or is trying to have over life at the University. And the statement itself is rather strange, encouraging the students to "listen to what she [Joan of Arc] has to say" when they pass her statues. Imagining that inanimate objects have voices is called "magical thinking" when children do it, and in adults it is often a sign of psychosis. I find it interesting that Longwood via CHI wants to encourage this sort of thing. Also worth remembering that Joan of Arc herself had visions aka visual hallucinations, heard voices, and believed she herself was chosen by God. By modern standards she was insane.

Sicktanick talks about his political views for 2 hours here

I was suppose to cohost this but i ended up just calling in for a few instead lol

Some pretty interesting stuff here, thank you PiXy.

For example, one little tasty snack, SickTanick mentions symbolism of the Statue of Liberty including the spiked crown or crown of thorns. Liberty's crown has seven spikes apparently one for each of the seven continents.
