It also noted Joe was likely kneeling when shot in the head. Also that BB had told another woman he'd leave for her and it would be easier if CB wasn't around. Abhorrent people. MOOO.
On NBC4 tonight they said Banfield's mom visited Juliana in jail and had a conversation about what happens to snitches in jail. You can't make this stuff up- wow.

It was also confirmed in court (see WP article) that Tess Banfield, BB's mother, has been paying for the attorney of the AP. Of course, were the AP to take a plea deal it would be very bad for BB indeed. I hope Tess Banfield is arrested and charged with witness tampering. JMOOO.

It's my understanding his mother moved in after the murders of Joe and Christine. Prior to that she lived in NY. An AP can be cheaper than daycare and can flex around nurse/LE jobs. He would not be able to afford the mortgage on just his salary that may be why he did not see divorce as an option. It was the middle class US life AP was chasing, not living in a small apt on IRS salary. MOOO.

X post has a non-paywalled link to WP story if anyone needs access. I always thought they were staging and waiting for the victims to be closer to death in the lag between calls. That BB did not ask about his wife, only if JR had a pulse, is not going to play well with a jury. Kind of undercut his claim he was defending her vigorously too.

The photos are just nuts as is the plan to flee US. Perhaps leaving child with grandmother Tess. MOOO. Video shows photos of the scene and knife from the hearing today.

I am soooo glad he has been arrested & didn't get bond. These two deserve LwoP. And BB's mother needs to be charged too, imo, as stated already by @LifeIsAMystery.

Assuming he's convicted, could/would they add extra charges for him using his IRS service weapon to murder Joseph Ryan?

What they have done is horrific & to loop in a total stranger (Joseph Ryan) in order to pin a murder on him but instead turn around & murder him is just vile. And, of course, murdering Christine is awful, especially to set up this pretend sexual encounter in order to make her look like she was the one cheating or behaving in dangerous ways.

It's been a long time coming for both to be arrested & to start hearing some details. But I am so glad LE has worked to build a case & hope that it ensures convictions & life sentences for both.

My heart continues to go out to Christine & Joseph's loved ones.

Imo.

This is pretty shocking. More details in the video at link.

Just because written letters were not found in her cell does not mean they were not disposed of or taken back out by JPM's attorney.

Why would her attorney be risking bar sanctions or worse to not only ferry communications (remember BB's mother, TB is paying JPM's fee) but also TO DOCUMENT such in monitored communications?

Snipped from the story linked above:
"In one phone call, Teresa Banfield told Peres Magalhaes she’d been texting with one of the defense attorneys, who offered to make a delivery during a jail visit, according to the search warrant. The document states Teresa Banfield then read the text aloud to Juliana. “Hi Tess. I will be going to visit Juliana this morning. Expected to be there around 9. If I, you know, if I have anything I’d give it to her," the affidavit said."

If I understand the news story correctly, the prosecution just has a RECORDING of the jailhouse phone call where TB reads JPM a text *allegedly sent* by one of the defense attorneys. For all we know, TB was just making up the contents of the text to convince JPM that the Banfields were fully on her side and doing all they could to get her off the hook for the murders.

IMO only: The way that TB is reported to have read this "text" to JPM sounds to me like she could have been just fabricating it as she went--"If I, you know, if I have anything I'd give it to her." Also, if TB and this attorney were friendly enough that the attorney referred to TB by her nickname (Tess, rather than her given name of Teresa) AND they were communicating via text rather than via the more "official" route of email, it seems a bit odd to me that the attorney would start a text message with "Hi Tess."

TB is the one paying JPM's legal fees so I don't think the attorney saying "Hi Tess" is unusual. Him acting as a comms mule seems to open him to risk of ethics violations or worse, is that common? Control of the risk of JPM flipping on BB has been key all along. Investment for his mom.

Exactly @LifeIsAMystery ….. and IANAL…. but wonder if the au pair JPM would be better to sever from that family, get another lawyer even if a public defender, and then attempt to turn on her paramour BB? Try to take some form of a plea perhaps? (And I am not attempting to minimize either of their involvement.)

It can’t help but seem that BB family doesn’t have her best interest in mind? Rather working only to protect him? And yet…….. sure seems both would have been involved? And can’t help but wonder or imagine who first suggested something? I have my own suspicions. MOO

She is young and dumb and in a foreign country, IMO the Banfields have used this lawyer to control her as to protect BB. BB spoke about it being easier if CB was not around to an affair partner years before JPM was on the scene. She was a means to an end. MOOO.

TB is paying the fees to control JPM and protect BB. Both are involved by their own admission.

It would serve JPM to take a plea deal, serve less time and be deported to restart her life in Brazil. Given the fee arrangements and shenanigans that have now come to light, it may be that no one has explained that to JPM in a way she understands. MOOO. Not only is her lawyer acting in BB's interests, he's also opened himself to risk by his actions.

I understand that TB is paying the attorney; my point was about the possibility that TB *wasn't actually reading a text sent by the attorney* but rather was just making up the message to assuage JPM's concerns that she was being kept out of the loop somehow. I find it hard to believe an attorney would risk disbarment by texting TB a potentially damning offer to pass along information outside of normal channels, and I think what's weird about the text she allegedly read is that it started with a salutation. It is just not (in my experience) customary for text messages to begin with a salutation like "Hi [name]."

I understood your point and don't find a text that begins that way so unusual among people who communicate frequently. Would he risk disbarment? I guess more may come out on that point. That no letters were found in her cell means nothing to me, she could have eaten paper, flushed paper, attorney could have taken with him, etc. I hope there will be more coverage of that hearing and warrant, I expect more may come out on this point at her trial in November.
