It sounds as if she may not have even made it to Metro, but going from Franconia-Springfield to the airport is a pretty short trip. When you get off at the (Reagan) National Airport stop, you follow the signs along the platform to the correct exit, go through the faregates and sliding glass doors and you're in the airport. My recollection is that there are two different exits depending on which airline you're flying.

Even if you haven't been to the stop before, I find it hard to believe that you could get lost going from the Metro platform into the airport. There are surveillance cameras all over the place (both at the Metro station and in the airport itself), so she really should be on camera if she ever passed through there.

I call BS. According to her fiancée Katelin was not comfortable with traveling alone and this is the first trip she has ever done it. The step-person was supposed to drive her to the airport not to the metro. Katelin would not have chosen to get off at the mall and face getting herself to the airport on her own. Besides, who would want to truck around the mall with their luggage. It just doesn't make sense.

Probably right. I just want to point out that it is very common for people to metro in due to heavy traffic. I've done it before just to avoid the traffic and that is the popular stop to do so if you are heading up from the south. I don't have any reason to believe that it would be odd for someone to drop a person off at the metro if they are going to airport. You could be stuck in traffic and miss flight very easily.

I live in Spotsylvania and work in NoVA. Residents of River Road, and the surrounding area, within Spotsylvania County line attend Riverbend High School. It isn't uncommon to exit I-95 and head towards River Road to avoid Route 3. Perhaps, JMO, her stepfather lived in the area.

As of Tuesday, there is no indication Ciccone's death is connected to Akens' disappearance. However, both cases have area residents on edge.

At this point, I think it's a stretch to say that the two cases are related. The circumstances are totally different and Heather was having some problems with somebody bullying her.

Ugh! I don't think this will be a happy ending. I would love clarification of what really happened.
Is it possible that an "altercation" happened with step dad, she she got off at the mall to get away from him?
Is it possible that mom was having "issues" with her lifestyle choices and asked step dad to talk to her?
If what has been rumored is true, and step dad is some crazy temper dude, what the heck was mom doing allowing her daughter near him?
I think there's something more to the story. I'm not sure if it's a good reason.
I hope Katelin is found safe and she just needed time. Let's hope she is safe👍

Thanks for the local insights! My husband's family lives in Fredericksburg, I agree about River Road being kind of in the middle of things. IMO that would make it a good quick dumping place for anybody that wants to get in and out to dump something quickly and get back on 3 or 95.

Do we know where the step-person lives in Spotslyvania? Also are LE searching the river?

Hi, Claire. I grew up in Fredericksburg but haven't been there in years! The weird thing is I don't remember River Road. I assume it's by the river! LOL! But can you kind of give me some idea of how you get there? Is it near downtown? No....that would be closer to Stafford not to Spotsy. Do you know where Deadman's curve is? Is it out that way? Is it near Alumn Springs? I just can't seem to place where this road is in my memory. Thanks.

ETA Or is this road out in Spotsy and that's why I can't remember it? Guess it wouldn't hurt me to look on a map!

So I just looked at a map and see that it's not far off Jefferson Davis Highway and Mary Washington Hospital and my old high school. Now at last I've got my bearings!

I hope she shows up in the footage. But my gut tells they don't find anything of her around the airport. And why would her luggage end up where it did instead of a dumpster outside DC or just outside Alexandria if she made it to the airport?

So it's weird in this article it's says: Spotsylvania, VA — Investigators are searching for a missing teen last seen Saturday at the Franconia Springfield Metro Station in Springfield (see map below), according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

So really no one can verify that she was seen?
Also, wasn't here luggage located near where her stepfather lives? I don't think she ever left that area and was at the train station. I don't think she went to the mall.

BBM - now that's not ominous at all.. though I do wonder what sorts of "things of interest" could be found in her discarded luggage.. Maybe it's what wasn't found that's interesting?
