Also, have you heard anything about Lt. Cox being related to Meghan's murder in any way??

Hi everyone, I'm a newby here, I've been reading since a couple of days after Meghan's murder. I grew up in P-town and lived in Suffolk for about 25 years now. Gayle, I think I remember when your sister was found. Was she found by a farmer on his land across the street from a neighborhood with only three roads in it? I can tell you the name of the neighborhood, but I didn't know if you wanted it out or not. I lived in the neighborhood across the street at the time and it really made an impact on us. Sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry. When I said neighbor I didn't mean that I lived on the same street as Meghan. I'm on the other side of the Food Lion.

Gayle, ever since you posted I've been thinking about your sister. I was born in 1962 and lived in Hodges Manor; went to W. E. Waters and Manor. Possibly I went to school with your sister. I was out of school for quite a bit (had cancer) so a lot of the other students didn't know me by name.

This is the only new information about the Lt. that was killed in Norfolk.

This site has comments that sound like they are from the ex-wife's mom. She states the the person that shot Lt. Cox was older than you would think a gang member might be.

I'm not sure if you have to register to read this but basically it says the person that shot him is a medium complexion black man, approximately 6 ft. and he was driving a older 1990's model green and white pick up truck. Like I said before it doesn't sound like something a gang banger would be riding around in.

Meghan's murder should have been solved a long time ago. What is really the deal with her murderers arrest?

I don't understand the silence from LE and Meghan's family.

Neither do I, bigmike. and, Welcome to WS!!! :blowkiss:

Is the LE usually this tight lipped about crimes in your area? One of your locals told me that if it was military, they would be extremely quiet, but there is nothing.

I sat on Google and read up on blogs from her friends for 4 hours the weekend it happened, and now its dead quiet. Almost like people are afraid to speak.

I hope that man with his family is not part of it. Is the media reporting on that often? Not too often a "gang-type" execution happens in broad daylight.

One last thing locals- Please dont let this die down- Call your media, papers, news staions and demand an answer. If I was local and had more time, I would. Im in Pac time, and there is a time difference I wouldnt be able to account for. If anyone wants to get me some links of local stuff, I will email them.

This young girl was too cute to die in vain. They cant let her story die or she will be forgotten. We have seen it too many times here, and I, personally, will do my part not to let that happen.

Sorry for the rant :furious:

757- I thought that was you, :) I'm doing good. Congrats to you, I hear you are getting married. btw, your old house on Roberts Ct looks so different than before. I loved your Mom and family, they were always good to me.

Big Mike - Your absolutely right! My sister was found in Suffolk by a farmer. You can reveal the neighborhood. I'm okay with that. Besides, I have no idea what neighborhood it was, so please share.

Lizzybeth - you might have gone to school with her, she went by Vicky Cross. Sorry to hear about you having to deal with childhood cancer. Are you in remission now?

I guess if no one else is going to say it, I will. If and this is a big IF Lt. Cox is connected to Meghan Landowski, it's pretty ironic that his fiance' is named Megan (mentioned in the obit.).

757- did you notice if the family is back in the house? Is anyone going in and out of the house anymore or has it been pretty quite over there? i'm just wondering what they must be going through. Not only loosing there daughter, but not being able to get to there everyday things/routine. I wonder how the little boy is taking it.

What can we as civilians do? What rights do we have since this is not a direct relation to me? I have thought about calling the non-emergent police line and asking if they can at least let the public know if there is a thrill killer(s) on the loose. WWYD?

Welcome to WS all- Chico is right- locals, write the editorial, email the reporters perviously covering Meghan's case- keeping it out there is the only way your going to keep the pressure for answers

Gayle,
I do remember your sister's name. I'm so sorry. I know there are no words that can take the pain away.

I did notice that his fiancee's name was Meghan. A lot of coincidences there huh?

You're right about everyone being quiet. I don't even hear any rumors anymore (not from the kids or adults). Maybe I'm delusional but I want it to be because they realize that in order to get this person they have to keep quiet.

I would worry about doing anything such as contacting the media or calling LE without hearing from the family concerning how they feel about it. I'm sure by their silence that LE is keeping them updated.

LB- just wanted to say I lost a niece to childhood cancer and I am so glad to hear you made it through, it was a nightmare and when I hear about someone with childhood cancer that survives, and in your case, thrives, it warms my heart.:blowkiss:

Blink, the website is beautiful and a tribute to a beautiful girl. Her strength, will, and bravery is amazing and what a wonderful legacy she left.

I'm going to try and make a donation either to the garden project or the art one. That's such a good idea. Waaay back when I was in the hospital I remember looking forward to the lady that came around with arts and crafts. Those little things really help.

:blowkiss:

Sorry, to get personal on this thread, just wanted to acknowledge your "win" over your disease, but your kindness is overwhelming, thank you.
((hugs))

Gayle, The neighborhood was Rivercliff, it is on the right hand side heading towards the Nansemond River on route 327. The field is on the left, right across from the small lighthouse at the entrance of Rivercliff. The old Nansemond River bridge was torn down last year, so the highway does not cross the river now. I remember feeling a lot of anger that anyone could treat another human being like that. I'm sorry for your loss.

If you go back and read the comments posted on the last article about Meghan (link to it http://hamptonroads.com/2008/04/mou...een%E2%80%99s-smile-spirit-shone-brightly ) I don't understand some of the post that seem to be going after another poster (Rose) for showing doubt about the LE not putting out information or warning to the public. I follow the articles in the VA Pilot quite a bit and read most of the post. The majority of the post on that article are from people I've never seen post there. I wonder if it's not some of the LE posting. Strangely enough there was an article prior to Meghan's murder about the number of cold cases in P-town. It seems they have a very high number of cold cases.

I have to agree with Rose. The PPD seems really good at giving out tickets (no, I haven't received a ticket in about ten years or more) and driving while drunk. BigMike, was the one recently arrested going through the tunnel at 2:00 a.m. intoxicated about the second or third one? I don't have very much confidence in them. BTW, I agree. It's either LE or their wives defending them on that msg. board.

Yes, it could be that they are keeping quiet because they don't want to alert the suspect but they could release SOMETHING. I've seen and heard a lot of press conferences where the local LE is able to reassure the public that they are doing something without giving out any information that would hurt their case.

The ONLY thing that makes me think that maybe they know who it is is the family's silence. Of course, they're probably still in shock.

Lizzybeth, After you brought it up, it dawned on me. You are indeed right. The one in the tunnel was just one of several that I can recall of PPD DUIs. There was the Sheriff that got pulled DUI and then tried to use his position and ended up costing him his job. Gary Waters was his name and he had a long history of controversy. There was also a PPD Detective that ran into another car close to the Mid-town tunnel. I can't remember the details but there was another incident where a PPD officer ran into a parked car in West Norfolk a few months back.
I just feel that Meghan was let down and now I fear that this will just go unsolved if there is no outcry. It just puzzles me why her murder has not been on the national news. Anytime something like this happens elsewhere it seems LE puts out some details and ask for the publics help. It also seems like the press puts out request for info and keeps it in the publics eye. If LE hasn't found enough clues in three weeks time to make an arrest, either they have no leads or they are allowing a suspect to roam free and possibly do something like this again. How much danger is the public in? I can't imagine how anyone could harm a kid like this animal has, but if they're capable of that, they'd have no problem harming anyone else.

It does seem like nothing is being done right now. However, we really don't know what is happening behind the scenes.

Apparently it really doesn't help for the family to go public. Look a Jon Bennett Ramsey her family was all over the news and still no one knows who the murderer was. Look at Natalie Holloway, her Mom has spent countless dollars going to Aruba to contacting everyone she could possibly contact. They even had a live confession from Joran Van der Sloot admitting what happened the night of her murder and yet, because he was smoking pot (which is legal in the Netherlands) some cocky American attorney was able to say "he was not in his right frame of mind." Therefore the confession was thrown out. '

I'm sure there are countless other murders where the fam has gone public and the murderer was never found. Look at John Walsh, never found out who Adam's murderer was...though he highly suspected who it could be, the man was never brought to justice before he died. John will never fully have closure.

I just think it is so sad that this person, at least to the public, appears to have gotten away scott free! And if Lt. Cox was the murderer or had something to do with it, again, we might never know.

The other day when we had all the tornadoes, I was driving how past Roberts Ct and I thought about how everyone if focused on the tornadoes (understandably so) and I'm sure all her family can focus on is how to make through each day.

Maybe this person will be brought to justice. I will have to look back and see how long it took for my sister's murderer to be brought to justice. I know during her funeral, there were tons of people at her funeral and everyone was considered a suspect.

Gayle, if you don't mind me asking (I don't remember) was the person in your sister's case known to your family? Or was it random? I understand if it's something you don't want to discuss.

I think about Meghan's family alot too. Especially a little boy I saw on the news the night it happened. He was really thin and had glasses. Poor baby, was staring straight into the camera like he was in shock and wiping his eyes with a tissue. I'll never get that picture out of my head. I don't know if it was Meghan's brother or not. The pain for them must be unbearable. I just hope (and it seems they do) that they have a lot of support from friends and family.

I mentioned this before but there was a case of a girl that my son went to school with, Maya Davis, at Churchland High School. She was murdered and her body dumped in Chesapeake. All the rumors were that the ex-bf had done it. We never heard any updates, of any suspects, etc. Finally about a month ago they had on the news that he had been arrested for her murder. It took five months. Hopefully that'll happen for Meghan only sooner.
