Ah actually - I thought that when I first read it too, but if you look back it actually says:

"On 12/30/2017 at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Charlottesville Police Department received a report of a missing female. The reporting party advised that Molly Meghan Miller was last seen on 12/29/2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m. when she left her residence in the 900 block of King St."

So by that, she wasn't reported missing until a little over 24 hours later. Which...also is strange to me; if I went on a walk at 8:30 at night, my spouse would be panicking by 10:00 and be out looking - he surely would not go to bed without reporting it. HOWEVER: I am not an expert but seem to remember hearing something about how in some places you can't report an adult as a missing person until 24 hours have passed - does anyone know if that's true? If so, that would explain the lag I guess.

Another (pretty obvious, and only partial) explanation, assuming the fiancé's story is true, would be that they had a fight and she stormed out. That would explain why she didn't bring her purse, keys, jacket(!), etc - although tbh I still think it's pretty weird she didn't bring her phone...I am also a young 30s woman and it's fair to say that none of my friends would go on a walk at night (or ever, really!) without bringing their phone. Unless it was a spur of the moment impromptu walk and my phone was dead (pretty unlikely), I would definitely throw it in my sweatshirt pocket. And if I'd just had a fight with my SO I wouldn't leave it there with him, I'd want to be able to text / vent to friends, etc. But anyways - perhaps they had a fight and she stormed out, and he assumed she was with friends / intentionally not coming home, so he didn't get too worried initially. Even then, 24 hours would be a long time though.

I've definitely known couples who get in dramatic fights and give each other the extended silent treatment regularly...they thrive on the drama and whatnot. IMO, purely based on a brief FB stalking, I don't get that impression from Molly and her fiancé. But who knows! That's just conjecture. As is over half of my post, of course. I will note that multiple people have posted supportive "thinking of you" type messages on his Facebook, so (the conjecture continues) it doesn't seem like a situation where her family/friends have never liked him or have jumped to suspecting him.

The 24 or 48 hour waiting period for missing people is a myth, but unfortunately some people still believe it and wait to report.

That could explain the timing, since it was pretty much exactly 24 hours. That explains why we're just hearing about her now.

Cam posts regarding her disappearance and the search for her be shared if they are from her from her mother’s FB page?

Sadly, another from C-ville. It's cold now. Especially at night.

I hope this is solved soon and not some sort of faux political hoax. This isn't the sort of weather someone simply walks off on their own to think about the world around us.

Whenever we have a missing person case here of someone who ran out in very cold weather without coat or shoes etc I'm pretty sure this will not end well. Still, there's always a slim hope that she just ran to visit a friend close by and needs some time away from her life. I know though that this scenario is very unlikely. :(

In a Facebook post, advocacy group Help Save the Next Girl stated, "She and her fiancé were cooking dinner when Molly left on foot for a quick walk. She left wearing a black sweatshirt and was without a coat, purse, or phone... She has had no contact with family or friends since she disappeared and her disappearance is described as very out of character." NBC29 has not confirmed these details with authorities at this time.

The Charlottesville Police Department is asking anyone with any information, or who may have seen Miller, to call Detective Oberholzer at 434-970- 3985 or call Crime Stoppers at 434-977- 4000.

Molly has a past arrest/criminal record and also past lawsuits/bankruptcies/liens. I'm coming up blank trying to find any arrest reports on free websites. Can anyone find her records? Might give insight into why she is missing...

I'm wondering if alcohol is involved here. Meaning...too much to drink and not making clear or good decisions?

That MyLife site also has her as the owner of a beauty salon and the salon is actually owned by a MARY Miller.

Same I'm wondering.

Looks like most of the arrests were around age 21. I think many of us here drank too much back at that age. In the last 10 years, there is no such history.

Unfortunately we can hypothesize all day about potential scenarios. We have the standard assumptions already covered.

1. Significant Other as a suspect
2. Substance abuse (OD'd somewhere etc)
3. Stranger abduction

However, what I am sure is being done, are things that we can't access and have to wait on the police to release information. They should be pulling surveillance footage from surrounding stores and homes, coupled with traffic cameras for suspicious vehicles. Additionally going through her phone and seeing if there are any messages that lend clues to her whereabouts.

So in the mean time, if you're local you should keep an eye out for her or suspicious characters and vehicles in the neighborhood, or volunteer on a search party.

4. Suicide
