All indications are that LE is taking this case seriously. Some of the pictures in last week's news sites looked like LE was checking out the bike pretty thoroughly.

Do you know if they found anything out about the bike?

Seems like family or friends or neighbors would see this and say "that sounds like you, maybe you should call LE" or something! Or even call about their thoughts. The total silence from the public is odd. I don't know my neighbors too well, but I do know what kind of vehicles they have or if they have children.

this is what has me coming back to transients over and over in my mind, or someone who stayed in a local salvation army or homeless shelter for a little while.

BUT -

The fact the child was dressed in red, white, and blue on the fourth of July always comes back to mind at this point in my thought process and reminds me that this child sounds well-cared for up to that day, and probably with a mother-figure in his life (most boys/dads don't color coordinate on holidays on their own, broadly speaking - yes there will be exceptions, but ya know what I mean).

So then it brings me to thinking "ok not homeless/transient, but traveling/transient".

I just don't know. *sigh*

I was thinking like the lady in that video. Why is he riding around like that with flat tires? I asked my 10 year old son because is is very smart and very observant what he thought. He said he would be riding with flat tires if he was poor.I didn't think the area looked poor though. Is there a poor area around that area where the bike was found.I thought maybe he was visiting somewhere and the bike had not been ridden for awhile and the tires went flat and he was trying to ride it.He also could have found an abandoned bike and tried to bring it home. It's weird no one recognizes the boy or the bike.My son is probably right. He was poor.

I have been reading on here for awhile, but this is my first post!

Perhaps the tires were flattened by the man in the van earlier in the day, to slow the boy down and make him easier to catch? It would be hard to peddle away from an abductor with flat bike tires... Just a thought.

Hi all.:Bananahi:

Hi and welcome!

That is an excellent thought. Some of the neighbors said they thought they'd seen the boy around earlier in the week -- did they say whether he had the bike then?

Has been done before, e.g. Robert Leroy Anderson:

As investigators searched Andersons truck they discovered several receipts for duct tape, black water-based Tempura paint, paintbrushes and a bucket, most of which was purchased a few days prior to and on the day Piper went missing. Investigators suspected that the paint was used to disguise Andersons Bronco. Their suspicions would prove to be correct.

They called in experts to analyze the paint job on the truck more closely. Samples were taken and chemically tested. They found that the Bronco had been painted with the same material bought by Anderson around July 29th. The paint used was a kind that could be easily applied and washed off.

Interestingly, a witness claimed that he saw Anderson cleaning his car on the same day Piper disappeared. It was believed he was washing off the paint and ridding the car of any other incriminating evidence.

I thought of this right at the start, when it seemed the perpetrator (if there is one) might be a painter, but I think he would've covered the visible spot of primer as well. However, the van might have a new permanent color by now.

Wow, thanks prospektor for this reference. I wonder how many other creepos do / have done this.
So, if there is something sinister behind this incident, it is possible that the van isn't even blue anymore, either washed off, peeled off, or painted over.

Also, re: the child's clothing, red, white and blue. Perhaps he was just wearing those colors coincidentally on that day? As previously mentioned, those are common colors on tshirts.

Good catch here IMO.

"... reported that a light blue minivan with a dark gray front bumper drove passed them at an unusually slow speed. The van stopped and the man got out and told the kids to get in his van. The children quickly left the area.

That man was described as being a Hispanic male in his 50s. "

This is worth calling in, I think. Possibly a stretch, yes, (minivan vs full size, 198 miles away, etc.), but at this point I don't think there's anything to lose by informing LE. JMO.

I haven't caught all the way up yet, so forgive if this has been mentioned already. Perhaps the boy got away and that's why no one has mentioned he was missing. I would think he would call the police and report the suspect but it wouldn't surprise me if he did not. Then, the suspect went to the next place, in the link above.

Glad you decided to join the conversation.

Well, the most obvious semi-innocent scenario would be that the guy was working on a contract job in the area and had to bring his son along. The son hung out all day while the father worked. Dad finished job, went looking for son, who had wandered too far. Dad is pissed, son doesn't want to go, Dad grabs son and shoves him into the van, maybe leaving the bike as punishment or just so mad he doesn't think to grab it. They leave and he hasn't contacted anybody because he hasn't heard about the case and doesn't know he needs to.

I say "semi" innocent, because the best interpretation I can put on the father's behavior is that he could benefit from anger management.

I have been leaning towards the same theory...could even be that the Dad (and son) were at a home (as contractors) that was recently bought/sold at auction and perhaps the bike was an item left behind, Dad finds son and grabs him...leaves the bike because Dad could careless about the bike...jmo

This probably doesn't matter but it's been bugging me for days now - IIRC only one article said "sky blue" and it was a super early one. All the rest said "medium blue" which is entirely different, IMO

As soon as I saw it referred to as "sky blue" or "medium blue" I immediately assumed they meant "medium blue"...I can see the color as clear as day. When we were having our house built there were SEVERAL contractors with what I would describe as "medium blue" all over the place. I believe it was a color from the 1970's or 1980's. I would even go as far as to say MOST of the vans I have seen that color were either Fords or Dodges.

I do agree "sky blue" and "medium blue" are WAY DIFFERENT...Sky blue would stick out like a sore thumb...medium blue, probably not so much.

WFLS radio said this morning that this is still an active investigation, but it does not look like there is any new information.

Thank You for sharing this.I've been thinking.I know there are alot of immigrants and illegal immigrants in and around this area.Maybe that is why no one came forward. It makes no sense to me at all why no one came forward.Unless they left the area and was not from there. But why leave the bike and not come back for it?

There's a not-quite-light sort of metallic blue that seems to be in style since last year. They call it "steel blue" and it looks lighter depending on the angle you're looking at it. I see it mostly on Fords, I think. I imagine other manufacturers have a similar color, though. I wonder if something like that explains the discrepancy -- it's a color that really could have looked both sky blue and medium blue depending on the lighting.

Maybe they didn't come forward because they are afraid they will get in trouble for something.I do hope they figure out and find out who that boy was.To see if he is ok and let that poor lady know it wasn't an abduction if it wasn't.I know this would really be bothering me too.
