When we think about the immensity of 33 deaths, and how many people, relatives, friends, acquaintances, and schoolmates this affects, then we can better understand what is going on in Iraq, where only this many deaths, in any given day, would be considered a better day.

Oh, the guy needs to be slapped, at the least, arrested at the most. I hope he at least gets hauled in and grilled mercilessly.

And he should be watched, closely. There might be something of a terroristic threatening charge in what he wrote, but it's on the line. Either way he's a %*#$ing *advertiser censored**hole of the worst sort.

Hi Nova, I had no idea you were or are a professor! Neat!

I read that at CTV and posted it here and now wish I hadn't done that. For one thing it is unnecessary info to put out there, even though as sleuthers you and I and most everyone want to know everything! But now I have heard thatyes it was a man and the shooter's GF that were shot, as was the female roomie of the girlfriend. Now maybe it is true, as this Student Assistant could have been a male and shot in the groin. I just haven't read it anywhere or heard it on TV.

The reason I thought it could be a clue is if the killer was the scorned lover and murdered her and a man with her at the same time it might give motive for the crime. From what I heard on Oberman there was a verbal confrontation in the girlfriends room and then the Assistant came to the room and was shot.

We will have to wait and see.

I hear he is a student from China here on a visa. Why don't passports require a fingerprint? I just helped my grandaughter get a passport and it is not part of the process. I guess they will have to match his prints to those found where he lived. I am sure someone will know who he was, possibly someone who knew the girlfriend.

Interesting perspective, Buzz. Iraqis go through this type of horror every day, and more. And of course the troops do too.

And yet this shocks us closer to home, as we don't really expect it. It comes as a shock every time a school shooting or college shooting happens.

THERE WERE TWO SHOOTERS, OH NO. Please, no. I just watched O'Reill and he said they had identified "the shooter". I guess I'll go look again.

I'm watching the O'Reilly factor....Bill just said that the Chicago paper (Sun, I think) is reporting that the shooter was a 24 y.o Chinese National here in the US on a student visa. Sorry, no link yet.

One of the students is saying the earlier shooting was a fight between a bf and gf. The dorm RA came and told them to be quiet. The BF shot the RA in the leg (groin?) and killed the girlfriend. I guess the RA died from the shot in the leg? I am confused, just posting what I read.

Campus cops are usually the bottom of the cop barrel. At my university, the cops are a joke. If something like this happened, they might wet their pants.
And, that may explain why the VT CP made that stupid decision after the first shooting that the killer had left campus. How did they know that FOR SURE? They didn't. The inepititude is obvious. A lot of students died because of the mishandling of the earlier incident. Someone is going to be in deep doo doo after this is all sorted out. VT is already trying to spin the whole thing to make them look good.

I agree with Mabel when she said in an earlier post that she cringed when she heard the media saying this was the worst mass killing ever in the US because some fool might want to up the ante. Kind of like the Guiness Book of mass killing.

Face it everyone; our society is sick. And sad.

I heard just now on MSNBC they have a tenative ID on this shooter and know where he lived and are waiting for a warrant to be written.

Yes, that is what the chief was indicating. The dead shooter from the 2nd shooting,they have a preliminary ID, they have a poi from the 1st shooting but he is not the second shooter. Does that make sense?

Okay so I think I may have this story right now.

There was fight in one of the dorms between a bf and gf. The dorm RA came in and tried to stop the fight or told them to quiet it down. The BF shot the RA and girlfriend killing both. Apparently the fight they (the bf & gf) were fighting b/c he suspected or knew she was cheating on him with another guy. He went somewhere for a few hours. He came came back two hours later. One student says he peeked into classroom as if he was looking for someone (possibly the guy he suspected his gf was seeing). He shut the door and left. He came back later and started shooting people.

Everyone knows the old adage..hindsight is 20/20. But, seriously, think of the size of the campus, 29,000 people. I was born in a town less than that and to lockdown a small city would be impossible. If the general consensus was a domestic dispute initially wouldn't you feel somewhat immune to it? Especially if you weren't involved with the people.You wouldn't take cover unless it was your next door neighbor on a rampage.

This is a terrible tragedy all the way around.

Fox saying it was a 24 yr. old Chinese National who arrived in the US in August but no confirmation. This being the 2nd shooting.

No confirmation that the second shooter is the first shooter.

I love it Nova! We have a poster here who has worked for a long time in media but now produces shows. She has a big production now in England which is a show of music from great musicals in concert. Hmm, somehow that didn't come out right! Scandi

I agree. The first info was a white man w/ greasy hair driving a black farm truck. This is the first shooting. So, naturally that would be the focus.

Before anyone asks the farm truck ID is because of the license plate.
