I don't get the impression the judge likes him very much.
As far as the DA goes
He got a little piece of mind from myself and Megan's mom.
This was already the 2nd time her mom traveled all the way to NY for his sentencing.
I'm a little upset that they allow these guys to exploit our judicial system this way

In my opinion, the judge was in a better mood today than he was the last hearing, if Blake's lawyer had 1/2 a brain, he would have shut his mouth and taken the sentence today.
Of course, we can't read his mind but we both were thinking the same thing

Mainegirl, Is he in jail now, waiting for sentencing? Or is he simply showing up for court dates? Thanks for posting on the forum. Please keep us posted. God Bless Ella and the family. We want justice for Meagan and the other girls.

Sorry Deedee .. was off reading on another thread

YES... he has been incarcerated for quite some time :)

Appears in standard issue jail garb - it's not very flattering for him either :floorlaugh:

I will keep you guys posted
I had given up on any of these discussion type places because things just get too crazy with the crazies
But, with the time passing and lack of progress by those in charge of this investigation, I am grateful to see there are some out here still thinking about these girls (men & baby also)
The more time that passes, the less most people think about it or care.
Megan is of the most concern for me (personally) but that does not mean I minimize the importance of the others and I would like justice for them all
I just wish we had been able to enjoy a small taste of victory and see a little accontability today. I'm heartbroken about it. Optimism just shot down... it's hard to watch

Is he in jail waiting for sentence? Lets see how much the DA and the judge care about these types of crimes.

If he is facing a sentence of 2 years under sentencing guidelines, and has allready been in jail for 11 months, he will probably not spend much more time in prison. They will want to give him probation so they can can keep track of him longer.

Ronnie Reese/MEDILL"He had my mind so done," said prostitution survivor Brenda Myers-Powell about the mental influence of a pimp who once controlled her. "Just fried."

“Just like a pimp told me, ‘Wherever you ain’t, I am,’” Myers-Powell said.Where families are not, that’s where pimps will be, preying

Some of that happens, but mostly young women get into the business and associate with pimps not because they were tricked, want love or any such thing. That is what they tell themselves and others afterwards to rationalize what they did. The real reason most do it is very simple: What they see as easy money. Most of these girls have nothing, are young with no skills, maybe don't find the idea of 8 hours at minimum wage cleaning toilets or flipping burgers very attractive, or they have "needs" in the way of a desire for designer clothing, bling and/or drugs. then there are single moms who can't make ends meet (or the women with the unemployable husbands). These are the sorts who typically get into prostitution. A pimp might help them in that, but it is something most choose to do.

But years later when they are looking for sympathy or understanding, that doesn't make for a compelling reason to the listener, so a different reason is presented. It is way easier to simply blame the pimp.

There are girls who escort in order to get enough money for education or to provide a solid financial base for their future, but those are pretty much all on the high end and are a minority. Most of the ladies fritter away their earnings and at the end of the day have nothing to show for all their endeavor. They need to have an explanation, to themselves, to account for that.

Tugela, Did you do a survey? Why does societies lowest form of life, target girls who have absent fathers? Second guess that.

To listen to some of the tactics RB used on these girls shows they were definatley coerced (at least) into remaining in the business.
What's truly alarming is the way they have now changed their stories. 2 of the 3 cases were basically dropped since the last hearing in January because 2 of the girls have since decided to stop cooperating. The 3rd changed her story from testifying that RB held her daughter hostage until she returned with enough money. This girl contacted the police to get her daughter back and apparently this is the incident that led to the initial investigation. Now she says she was not coerced. Another had testified he broke her jaw. Now she won't play ball either. Sounds to me like there could possibly be some tampering going on. I wonder if the girl with the child realizes how badly she was ripped apart in that courtroom yesterday. From the accusataiont that her concern was wanting to keep all the money and had no concern for her child... to the accusation that when the child was turned over to the police, she was in better condition that when she was left at RB's home with his girlfriend.
I hope she reads here since contacting her myself would surely mean I would be tampering... She was ripped up pretty good yesterday
Sad after she changed her story to benefit RB.
These girls are not always willing partipants, just look at the stories about Oriental girls being brought here, some never see the light of day, they're literally sex slaves. Lots of the missing teenagers out there are being held against their will and sold to the highest bidder. If you've never seent he movie Taken, you should. It's scary because these things DO happen. I had a friend that did close to what the father in that movie did when his 13 yr old daughter disappeared from Portland Maine (around the time Megan disappeared) He tracked her to a crack house - being held and sold in Dorchester MASS. For one thing... being a white guy in Dorchester is dangerous enough, but he did it and took his daughter back.

OH.. also, RB is facing muh more than 2 years,
He's facing 2 years per victim and has a much more lengthy rap sheet compared to Akeem.
They're adding additional points for past convictions and the coersion charges.
Lets not forget also that Akeem was giving a stiffer sentence than he was initially facing ;)
The battle seems to be all but lost on the coersion points, but the others will remain and there was plenty of sympathy for Megan's mom yesterday. I think this was what RB's slimey lawyer had been anticipating and had already been scheming to prolong the sentencing to put a little buffer between the impact statement and the sentencing. This wa the issue I took up with the DA when we left the courtroom.
Since the coersion charges are down to little (if any) additional points right now, they should have dropped it and hoped the fresh emotion from the impact statement would solicit some fresh consideration :(

Mainegirl, The girls need to find out their rights. Im sure some can go to a shelter for battered women. A child is held hostage? Blackmail and kidnapping . Also child endangerment. She should go to a shelter and have charges reinstated. Social workers can guide her.

Charges are filed, he's sitting in jail and we're at the sentencing phase.
For some reason (gosh, can't imagine why) they've changed their tune and are now refusing to play ball.
He's been tried, he's been convicted - there's not recharging him for the crime now.

The problem of sex trafficking has become such an issue in Maine, they now have a shelter specifically for such victims.
Scary

Ok. I understand.

If I had to guess, I'd guess they've been spoken to once again.
Why would they testify to one thing and then change their tune when sentencing comes.
If they have the reach to do this and scare these girls several states away, what exactly are these guys capable of ?
I'm not sure what evidence they've used to eliminate the ring as suspects for the murders, but.... what if.... (?) :(
Ok. I understand.

Tugela, Did you do a survey? Why does societies lowest form of life, target girls who have absent fathers? Second guess that.

They are generally not targeted, they come together as a result of the sub-culture they associate with for the most part. There are pimps (or wannabe recruiters anyway) that troll for random young girls on occasion, but that is not how it works for most of the women. Typically they get into the business on a casual part time basis to make easy money and as they get drawn deeper into that world they come into contact with pimps. A pimp is going to have a much easier time recruiting a girl allready in the business than some wide eyed innocent (who usually aren't that innocent anyway when you dig deeper into these stories). These guys are generally lazy, they are not going to go to all the work and expense trying to persuade some rookie to become a sex worker when there are allready hundreds of girls getting into the market all on their own. They are going to go after THOSE ladies.

The idea that pimps are trolling malls and facebook for unsuspecting schoolgirls makes for a good story because it plays into middle class fears about the sanctity of their daughters, but mostly that is not how it works in real life.

Oh, and absent fathers. Single parent families where the mother is the breadwinner have a high probability of living in poverty. Because they are impoverished, they are financially deprived and don't have access to the resources needed for the finer things in life. But, if the girls engage in prostitution, money becomes readily available and they can now buy those finer things. That is the reason why so many come from that sort of background. It is all about money (or lack thereof).

It may be intimidation, but it might also be that the objective when making the complaints has been achieved and they see nothing further to be gained.

Okay I'm just going to add my two cents into this.

Yes some woman do just want an easy way to make some money. These woman 9 out of 10 times go to high end escort services. And most of these high end escorts are ran by women. They pay the services a percentage for finding them work and keeping them safe. These types of woman don't usually get involved with actual pimps.
Now, the girls who end up on the streets with pimps and working off of craigslist are typical not doing it for the money but yet doing to keep up with their drug habit.
I've seen it with my own eyes. I grew up watching these things happening every day. It's actual pretty simple to see. I am one of the lucky girls that was smart enough to watch and see how this happens and some how never ended up a victim and was able to get to college and better my life and end up in a nice home. But not all these girls are that lucky.
I would sit and watch these pimps who are most times also drug dealers. What they would do is target younger girls 15, 16, 17 and so on.....most of the time these girls were in fact very vulnerable and insecure (seems they can sniff the insecurity out like blood hounds). They would be all chummy with these woman never once saying they wanted them to prostitute. Most the time these young girls don't even know they are pimps these young woman are very naive. And most times these woman are not addicted to drugs. They are simply looking to belong. Or are not getting attention from boys there own age and take what they can get. Some are also run aways either from a bad family and I've also seen some from really good familys but they feel out of place and their parents are simply to strict and they rebel. So they hang out for while and party with these guys. Beer is always free for the ladys and most importation the drugs are ALWAYS free. But after smoking blunts and drinking beers for a few weeks they start to introduce these girls to cocaine or crack. They supply these drugs for free for weeks. After about a month these girls need to have the drug. The girl shows up expecting the same as before but this time they are told they need to start earning their drugs. So then they start to Prostitute. And that my friends are how pimps in the hood work. I've seen it so many times. I've lost a lot of good friends who never had done drugs and would never dream of being a prostitute to these pimps.
I've also seem some pimps go after lonely older woman. It does happen. I think it's pretty naive to say and just think that most these girls just want to make an easy dollar. That is not true.
And I bet you if you were to ask these pimps how they work they would tell you. They sit and laugh about it. I've had them try to do it to me. They get the girls hooked on purpose on drugs just to turn them into prostitutes. This way they are able to make money off them and keep the girls happy. But the girls start to catch on and get unhappy and by this time they are stuck. They are being threatend, and beat up. It's actually very easy to put the fear of god into young woman. I my self have been in fear of these pimps and I wasn't even a girl they "owned". The only way to get away and to live with out fear is to move far away. But how do you do that when you are young, scared, don't know where to go and of course have a child now from one of the pimps or johns? Not only that but you have no money to leave because these pimps give you just enough for cigs and a few other things.

I've never understood why a provider needs a pimp to begin with. Honestly, if I chose that particular line of work, I sure wouldn't be sharing my income with some man who does nothing to help me earn it. Other than beat the crap out of me to keep me "motivated". These men sure don't seem to provide protection for these women. So what exactly IS their function?

Most the times these pimps are also drug dealers. If they piss these men off then their drug supply also ends.
