"Tuesday (Oct 8),
kayakers were once again seen on the river using specialist sonar equipment
as North Yorkshire Police vehicles drove along the verge of the waterway.

Missing person's posters have been plastered around the market town with Victoria's face on,
including outside the Derwent Arms pub,
where searchers have gathered."

Mysterious bag?? It's the paper M&S carrier bag from the petrol station, visible on the counter when she was making her purchases.

I thought they said when the family found the backpack, that the 2 drinks were in it.

Also, that may indeed be the M&S paper bag w/her purchases in it that she's clutching to her chest, but that's not all there is, is it? The pic is so blurry, I can't tell at all what it is, but it looks like she's holding a real handful of things there along w/the bag. Something kind of reddish or orange or dark pink? Almost looks like it could be a stuffed animal; I sort of see fuzzy legs or something, but I may be seeing things by now. It kind of gives it the look of a glove or a hand or something, see what I'm talking about? Or maybe that just IS her hand I'm seeing, or maybe it's just the design on the bag. Whatever it is, she carries it like I did as a student, many yrs ago, every day, with all my school books/notebooks/etc., just like many students still do, I'm sure. Are we sure she didn't ever go in the library? Maybe she thought she could go there and so was carrying papers or research materials of some kind, or just books to return. Almost looks like a whole stack of newspapers. Looks like a lot of whatever to me.

Also, a couple other things that sort of confused me... she bought the drinks at the BP garage (I think that was the name), so is there an M&S Food outlet in their store? Or was she already carrying the M&S Food bag when she got to BP? If so, she would've had other things already with her from home in the food bag (like what?). Unless there's an M&S along her way that she stopped at before BP, but why no mention of that that I've heard?

And finally, M&S uses paper bags? I would've thought plastic was used everywhere, although now that I type that, I seem to recall that other (more progressive) places have downscaled or even banned plastic bags for the environment. Not so where I live, all plastic bags still everywhere here, but we're not the most "progressive" in many ways!

Yes, there is M & S Food at this particular BP

@sunspun I agree with you about the bag. While I think the newspaper ‘expert’ is being over the top above talking about how she is carrying the bag, I do think there is more in there than 2 drinks. If I had 2 drinks bottles, in a paper bag in the rain, I’d probably roll it up and carry it under my arm. Or I’d ditch the soggy paper bag and find a way to make room in a pocket or my backpack. It just looks much heavier and more rectangular shaped than a couple bottles.

I guess in the bigger picture, does it matter if she bought a box of cereal or shoved some books she was carrying in the bag? Probably not, because I’m not sure it doesn’t just create more questions or lead us places that aren’t helpful. But I agree it doesn’t look like she’s carrying a bag with a couple drinks in it. JMO

I can see the fluffy thing as well..kinda like a scarf or something. I thought it was the pattern of the bag but looks as if it goes over her arm.

Snipped by me for focus.

I, too, was imagining all sorts of things until it was pointed out that this was the M & S bag that Victoria was carrying ...

The mother of missing Claudia Lawrence has spoken of the harrowing impact the search for another missing woman, Victoria Taylor, has had on her. Joan Lawrence, 81, experienced "a hell of a shock" upon seeing the police appeal for Victoria, who went missing last week, near her home.

Police searches along the River Derwent at the end of her street, with fears that they might find her daughter Claudia, left Joan with nightmares and flashbacks. Claudia vanished in 2009, and now Joan is reaching out to Victoria's family, hoping to spare them the anguish she has suffered.

I work in an M&S Foodhall, yes we have paper bags, they have a semi waterproof coating on them and are meant to be able to hold 15kg of shopping... they're definitely far stronger than a Primark paper bag, but still probably wouldn't last awfully long if it was tipping it down and also filled with a heavy load!

Its like nothing makes sense.
The police are divulging minimal information which leads people to speculate all the more.
The missing two and a half hours after leaving home and before she gets to the BP petrol station / M&S food outlet ? Then nearly twenty minutes to get to the station area which would normally take five minutes.
If all she bought was a couple of bottles of drink why did the paper carrier bag she was clutching to her body seem so heavy, indeed why not put one drink in her backpack and carry the water in hand ?
Looking so heavily loaded surely she would not attempt a long riverside walk, especially in tipping rain ?
Why buy and carry all that stuff if you were suicidal ?
Why set up a "false trail", with obvious reference to the Nicola Bulley case, to disappear leaving behind a beautiful two year old dependent on you at home ?
As all bus CCTV has undoubtedly been closely inspected the only way she could have left the locality is with the collaboration of someone with a car.
Sadly the river is where the police believe she is, and its many tens of miles to the barrage where Derwent meets the Ouse. That murdered girl from Hull was found on far side of the Humber estuary months later, rivers can hide drowned people for years.

Piecing some of this together using the 'search for Victoria' FB page

- It was her partner that left the parents at 9am, and close friends/family on that page are saying she left her home address after that before going missing. So it appears she stayed at home and the next time she was spotted was on CCTV at M&S/BP. I don't think we know that she was out from 9am until this time.

-The CCTV at the bus station shows her walking past it, down toward riverside view park. The bus station sighting is proving to be a bit misleading, but she was walking by it, not stopping there.

- As for her attire, again her friends and family on that page are repeatedly saying she does usually dress like this. Especially for walks.

- I tend to agree with you, unfortunately I think Occam's Razor can apply to a majority of these cases. She fell into the river. MOO.
