there have been references made on local news broadcasts to some unsolved murders in Union Co., NC and the current string of murders in the Daytona Beach area. While no specific info was given, for LE in two different states to take a hard look at the possibility of a link, I wonder if the sicko is leaving some type of "calling card" that has not been publicized and that both LE entities found with/near their victims. Will post more if anything specific turns up on the local news or the papers!

Daytona Serial Killings-Special Report

Victim´s kin learn of death from TV
Long-distance relatives of Laquetta Gunther, the first victim in the serial killings haunting this city since December, found out on national television that the 45-year-old mother of five had been shot and left to die in a narrow alley off Beach Street.

Serial killer´s victim ‘a free spirit’
Rhonda Iwanski flipped through photos of her slain sister, Julie Green. In one, a 6-year-old Julie tilted her head toward the sky, squeezed her eyes shut and forced a smile across her face.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- There were new developments in the search for a serial killer who killed three women in Daytona Beach. Tuesday investigators tried to find out if the wanted man was the one they had been looking for.

Police arrested David Lindsay Saturday as he was helping serve food to homeless people in Daytona Beach. Investigators said he had been volunteering under a fake name. Lindsay is a convicted murderer that has been eluding police for five years.

David Lindsay is being held at the Volusia County branch jail.

Police said for many years he was living a double life, and for many years volunteers at the Volusia-Flagler Coalition for the Homeless were unaware they were working beside a murderer.

"He took care of us, he was a good person. I don't know what happened with his life or anything," said Coalition resident Pamela Arrowood.

Always under the radar. The key sometimes is no responsibility. At least for serials.

Lindsay was convicted and served time for murdering his wife in 1988. When police arrested him he was wanted for another murder in Georgia in 2001.

I found another article that says the 2001 murder charge was in IL. That seems to be the correct one.

David Gibson Lindsay was expected to be extradited to Illinois after his first court appearance Sunday, a day after his arrest on an outstanding warrant from Decatur, Ill. He faces charges of first-degree murder and theft of a vehicle, Sgt. Al Tolley said.

<snip>

Federal authorities had sought Lindsay in connection with the slaying of an elderly Decatur man in December 2001, police said. He was tracked to Daytona Beach in 2002 when police found the slain man's car in a beachside parking lot, but the trail went cold, according to authorities.

DAYTONA BEACH -- DNA evidence has eliminated a local homeless man as a "person of interest" in the Daytona Beach serial killings, police confirmed today.

David Gibson Lindsay, 56, is being sent to Decatur, Ill., where he is wanted on first-degree murder and theft of a vehicle charges.

While wanted in the 2001 killing of a 71-year-old man in Decatur, Lindsay spent three years at the Homeless Assistance Center handing out clothing before his arrest a week ago, police said. Those who knew him at the center said he made up stories about his past. He spent eight years in jail for the late-1980s murder of his wife.

Police are still searching for the killer of three women from December through February, all known as prostitutes. Their bodies were found shot in various areas of Daytona Beach.

You've got to be kidding! I thought for sure that they had gotten the serial killer off of the streets when they arrested Lindsay.

I thought so too...but at least they are trying to find the killer of these woman. So many times when prostitutes are targeted no one seems to care.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Now that two men have been cleared as possible suspects in the unsolved murders of three women, police officials here said they must "go back to square one" in their investigation of the killings. Detectives said samples of DNA taken from the men did not match DNA evidence left behind at the murder scenes of victims Laquetta Gunther, Julie Green and Iwana Patton.

And now, six months after the nude body of the first victim was found in an alleyway, police have told The Daytona Beach News-Journal that DNA evidence left behind by the killer has not matched any DNA samples held in the FBI's national database. It also did not match any of the DNA taken from various persons of interest who surfaced in the case.

"We're starting all over again," said Capt. Brian Skipper, who oversees Daytona Beach's Criminal Investigations Division. "We're following up on new leads and we're going back and talking to people we talked to in the beginning to see if there was something we overlooked." Last week, family and friends of Gunther were hopeful when police here discovered that an Illinois man who was volunteering at the Homeless Assistance Center on North Street was wanted in a Decatur, Ill., killing. Because David Gibson Lindsay had been living here since 2002 and he frequented the area off Ridgewood Avenue where the three women -- drug users and sometimes prostitutes -- were known to circulate, police took a sample of his DNA. Lindsay was also convicted in the 1988 beating and suffocation of his wife.

They need to look at someone who lays low.Someone who is possibly married or lives with his mother. Someone who doesn't have a lot of societal responsibility. This serial killer is akin to BTK in MO. He is impotent in many ways and uses prostitutes or drug addicted people to his advantage. I would doubt that he even has the money to pay for one session.

I would check with other prostitutes in the area to see who has been stiffed.

They may chalk it off as a bad night but if there is a pattern and a description..then an arrest can be made.

It's interesting that the reverse sting arrestees were swabbed for DNA (from the link provided by Beyond Belief). Maybe something will match from those samples.

Looks like he might have struck again, not recent though.

A body found in Holly Hill is so decomposed the medical examiner could not perform an autopsy, police said Tuesday.

Holly Hill Police Cmdr. Mark Barker said the corpse, wrapped in a Berber-like area rug sealed with duct tape at each end, would be taken to the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory at the University of Florida. It will be examined Thursday. "It's decomposed to the stage where it's just dust and bones," Barker said. "It may have been there as long as six months."

DAYTONA BEACH-- A woman found murdered in a wooded area just west of an abandoned church could be the fourth victim of a serial killer who shot three women to death in 2005 and 2006, police said Monday.
Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said the circumstances surrounding the killing of 30-year-old Stacey Charlene Gage are "eerily similar" to those of the three women who were murdered in December 2005 and January and February 2006. Those victims -- Laquetta Gunther, Julie Green and Iwana Patton -- were found shot in the head.
At the time, investigators concluded that the killings were the work of one person. They found matching DNA evidence on two of the women. The same caliber weapon also was used to shoot all three victims. Though Chitwood would not release the cause of death in the Gage case, he said evidence found near Gage's body, as well as the methods used by the killer, were similar to the other murders.
Now police are also looking for the white Plymouth Voyager -- Florida tag T25-9VD -- that Gage was last seen driving. The vehicle has a gray interior, missing middle seat and an orange rope tied around the section where the luggage rack should be.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- While Daytona Beach police ramp up their search for a killer, family and friends of a woman who may be the killer's fourth victim are anxious to set the record straight about 30-year-old Stacey Gage.

Though they said Gage had trouble with drugs in the past, they said she was in rehab and living at home, not on the streets.

Family and friends said they don't think Stacey fell back to her old ways, but that she may instead have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time when a serial killer went back to his old ways

Regardless of her past or present...she did not deserve to die. Being a prostitute doesn't mean you should die.
I remember seeing a sign at the Green River killing march (prior to him being caught) that said *The punishment for prostitution is not the Death penalty".

I have faith in LE that they are working hard to solve this.

At least they have a vehicle and license plate to look for. I hope that yields many clues.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona Beach is pushing harder than ever before to find the city's serial killer. Thursday, the police department's new task force started their intense effort to track him down. Also Thursday, an anonymous donor gave Crime Stoppers $10,000 as a reward for information in the case.

For two weeks now, Daytona Beach police have spread out across the city, hunting for clues that could lead them to a killer. Thursday, they formed a task force with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Nine investigators, including a profiler, will focus solely on tracking down the man police say could be after anyone.

"When you look at some other incidents, other serial killer murders, there were innocent people mixed in who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood.

The warning is not lost on area women. Victim Stacey Gage's picture was plastered up at a local businesses warning women to watch out. Women who Eyewitness News talked to said they are thinking about the murder and the danger more often.

"I believe it could happen to anybody. This world is getting more and more

Details Emerge About Stacey Gage’s Last Hours
this information might lead them to her killer.
Stacey had been shopping a Publix store just hours before she went missing, as evidenced by surveillance camera footage.
The clothes she is seen wearing in these images is the same outfit she was wearing when she left later that night to get ice. Police now believe she was on her way to meet someone that night and that this person may be her killer.
“This person we’re looking for is a clean cut person. He’s somebody who probably has a good job. He’s somebody that you’ll never suspect,” Daytona Police Chief Micheal Chitwood said.
During their investigators have been working with a profiler who believes the killer is either married or has a girlfriend. This woman is potentially in as much danger as the women he has already killed.
Police are forming a task force to handle this latest murder in what authorities now are categorizing as a possible serial killer case. Stacey Gage’s body is the 4th that has been found in the Daytona Beach area since December 2005, and the first three victims all exhibited the same shot to the back of the head. These women were left naked, as was Gage’s body. Chief Chitwood also wanted to deliver a message to the killer.

The van driven by Stacey Gage the night she disappeared has been located. Authorities had been on the lookout for her vehicle since her body was found last week in a wooded area in Daytona Beach.
The van was found in the western parking lot of Water Club Apartments, 1225 S. Beach St.

I wonder if he's meeting his victims through the internet; maybe some kind of online dating service?
