Police say Martell had been living in a trailer next door to Martin’s home when he broke in, sexually assaulted Martin, killed her, dumped her body in the woods, and tried to dispose of the remains by burning them. Investigators were able to obtain Martell’s DNA from Martin’s body, linking him to the crime.
“The fact that that activity happened contemporaneously with her remains being found and her disappearance, the court can infer that he was responsible for killing her as well,” Kranichfeld said.
Court paperwork states Martell broke into Martin’s home, sexually assaulted her, killed her, and then burned her body.
