PAWLET, Vermont (Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024) — The Vermont State Police is investigating suspicious deaths in the Rutland County town of Pawlet.

Early Sunday morning, Sept. 15, 2024, when police received a call reporting a suspicious person. Subsequent investigation led the state police to a residence on Vermont Route 133, where troopers located the deceased victims.

This investigation is in its preliminary stages and involves members of the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Field Force Division and Victim Services Unit.

Following processing of the scene by CSST, the victims’ bodies will be brought to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death. Their names will be released following confirmation of identities and notification of relatives.

Initial work by detectives indicates this was an isolated event with no identified threat to the community.

Then police told NewsChannel 13 that the person with blood on him called 911 and gave information about dead people inside the home he was staying at. Police then responded to the home on Route 133 and began their search.

“They searched through the house. So, they did find, some deceased victims in the house,” said Trudeau.

Police confirmed Sunday night that they found three deceased bodies when they entered the home.

Trudeau said police have detained the man but have not arrested or charged him yet.

It sounds like multiple people called 911 at 3:45 AM. One person reported a suspicious man with blood on his clothing. Next the suspicious male calls 911 to give information about dead people inside the home he was staying at. POlice detained him and are "chatting" with him trying to get more information.

Weirdest story of the month.

Two of the victims have been named in the media. Brian Crossman and his wife, Erica Crossman. Brian was on the Pawlet Select Board serving a one year term.

Official identification of the victims is still pending from Vermont State Police (VSP), which indicated that investigators are dealing with a person of interest who is believed to be a relative of the victims. No charges or arrests had been made by noon on Monday, though VSP spokesman Adam Silverman also said there was no indication of a threat to the public.

Thank you @Leopard - this isn't what I thought it might be.

The property is a generational family farm. Brian and Erica married in June this year and had taken it over from Brian's sister to run. He was cleaning up the property and working the farm. Brian is a lineman for Green Mountain Power and as @Leopard posted, had been elected last spring to the PSB for a one year term - through March 2025. He served as a liaison to the Pawlet Highway Department and for buildings.

It's not clear in this story, did Brian still work for Green Mountain Power?
