What I don't understand is why EV allowed her child to be around the brothers, after they molested her...and why her daughter allowed HER daughter to be around them.

That's an understandable question those of us who have never experienced sexual abuse would ask. I wondered the same thing. But I've learned so much on many WS threads by researching my questions, so I did the same with this question. I googled "why do sexual abuse victims allow children to be around the abuser?" There are many articles. Here are just a few articles that explore the emotionally complex impact of sexual abuse on victims. They helped broaden my understanding of these victims' subsequent actions.

I think the one they need to talk to is Charles. He won't be competent to stand trial due to the dementia but I'm guessing he'll remember a lot from years back. My father in law has dementia and will ask the same question or make the same statement multiple times is a short period of time. But he can remember minute details of things that happened 20-60 yrs ago. This may be a way to get information if they were involved in any murders. The information could be used to point investigators to cases

Victims blame themselves quite often. They can sometimes feel that this happened to them because they were bad or deserved it somehow. It wouldn't necessarily cross their minds that it could happen to anyone else.

This is absolutely true. In my experience, people with dementia love to reminisce and have very accurate memories of long ago events. Hopefully, LE can skillfully use the desire to reminisce to gain detailed information.

There was an arraignment hearing today for Edwin.

Anyone find anything on this?

TIA!

Quote from your first link:
The losses are huge. Survivors who separate from abusive parents often find that their whole families turn on them too, branding them crazy or even cruel: “How could you do this to poor mother?” Their children are ostracized; the survivor may be frankly persecuted by his or her family. It’s no wonder that some survivors prefer not to “rock the boat.”

I know someone that this happened to, when this person reached their teens, and decided to speak out about what had been happening for yeaaaars. The parent went to prison. Totally ruined her family, her way of life (separated from their sibling due to bouncing from foster care to foster care). The person still mourned the loss of that parent and would talk about the good times that they had as a family. It was very odd, but they'd grown up like that. It was the only life they'd known.

I checked the Court docket this morning didn't see his name. He must still be at Harborview. It would be interesting to know what's wrong with him.

These court documents are not for the faint of heart - they will tear at your heart strings for sure.

3 things I note -

- Images of boys and adults were found in The Evil Ones house, along with the females.

-All 3 brothers participated in "the hobby" in various ways

-There is DNA evidence of some of the crimes

https://www.scribd.com/mobile/document/356963778/Edwin-Thomas-and-Charles-Emery-Court-Documents#

On page 9 I noticed:

"scraps of papers containing handwritten notes detailing ritualistic and satanic sacrifices of minor female children"

and

"numerous books and video tapes related to satanic rituals"

UGH

According to Newsweek, a detective walked into the facility, took a swab from Charles mouth as he slept and then woke him up and started questioning him.

The hospital was ready to discharge Emery, but the nursing home would not take him until they were paid a $13,000 entrance fee and a further $12,124 for the first month's rent.

According to the papers, Charles Emery has around $250,000 in the bank and receives a $3,100 month pension from Boeing. He is expected to inherit up to another $150,000 from Donald's will.

I thought Charles worked for Seattle Children's Hospital not Boeing as per the charging documents listed up thread? Did he work both places? I've also never heard of Thomas being employed.

Charles Emery was a janitor at Seattle Children’s hospital from the 1970s through the 1990s, according to the charges. These are the years T.W. told detectives she was abused.

Regarding the brothers $$$$ (Ugh - I did wonder why bail was set so low):

Charles Emery received a monthly pension of $3,100 from Boeing and has an estimated $250,000 in the bank, the petition says. He also stands to inherit one-fifth of his deceased brother’s estate, which has an estimated value of $200,000 to $750,000, it says.

There has been some question on the number of siblings and if there was another sister based on the census.

Since Charles was expected to receive 1/5 of his deceased brother's estate, I would assume that there were a total of 6 siblings.

The 4 known brothers, one known sister, and another sibling

Well done. Elementary dear Watson. None of us thought of that except you. :)
