The Kelso Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating 58-year-old Crystal Edna Cottle, who was last seen on Allen Street near the Interstate 5 exit on Jan 4.

Cottle, who suffers from mental health issues, was attempting to go home to Springfield, Oregon, via Amtrak, but she never arrived, according to police.

Her last known communication was after she missed her train at the Kelso station. Since then, police state Cottle has not contacted family members or neighbors and her phone has remained inactive.

She is described as 5 foot, 2 inches tall with long blonde hair and hazel eyes, weighing around 132 pounds.

Cottle has tattoos on her left foot and ankle. One reads “Natural Beauty,” in a scripted font. She also has a 4-inch jagged scar on her left calf and minor circular surgical scars at the base of her skull and neck.

Police suggest calling 360- 577-3413 or 360-423-1270 if you have information on Cottle.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore -- Crystal Cottle is described as a beautiful person and a grandmother who loved life, but she's been missing for weeks -- and her family and friends fear the worst.

She was in Kelso, Washington celebrating New Year's Eve with her daughter when suddenly she disappeared. She hasn't been seen since January 4, nearly seven weeks ago. Crystal Cottle is 58 years old and has blonde hair and green eyes. As far as any other noticeable features, her friends say she has a tattoo that says natural beauty.

For people close to Cottle, this experience has been incredibly painful. Robin Perez-Boyce and Shannon Young are afraid for the life of their friend. They, along with Cottle's family, have been speaking with the Kelso Police Department. Her last whereabouts were at the Kelso train station, where her daughter dropped her off.

She ended up missing the train and was last seen walking down the highway on video provided by the police. Her friends believe somebody has Cottle. They said she was a person who loved her grandchildren very much and wouldn't have disappeared for no reason. As to why she left the station, they guess she didn't want to wait four hours for the next train.

My Dad was living in Kelso for the last few years of his life and I grew up nearby. It's a reasonably small town but I noticed in the last few years the homeless population near the interstate exchanges really boomed. I was never comfortable walking alone through the area for that reason, but overall, it's a pretty quiet area.

If she was seen at the Ilani Casino later the same day, I have to wonder if she caught a bus or if she was hitchhiking, perhaps. Because it is a 10-hour walk from Kelso to the Casino. Did she have any cash or credit/debit card(s) with her? Would she have had the ability to check into a motel? MOO

I wonder why they don't elaborate on the mental health issues. if its important enough to mention then they may as well explain. IMO
How would knowing someone suffered from depression or OCD, for example, make a difference in searching for them?

Well off the top of my head depression might indicate that a person more likely to commit suicide, so search efforts might be directed to areas where a person might do that. If the condition is, say, multiple personality disorder then that might at least give a lay searcher some insight into what to expect if they find and confront the missing person. On the other hand, if the condition doesn't matter, like OCD, then why mention mental health at all? Don't put it on the flier/notice. My point was that just saying something like "suffers from mental health issues" doesn't tell us enough to matter. Either give us enough information to be relevant or keep it to yourself. IMO

Is it possible they don't know exactly what her mental health issues are? It may be obvious she has some kind of mental health problem but perhaps it hasn't been formally diagnosed so they can't be more specific. Unfortunately many people without health insurance aren't able to get their issues diagnosed, but it may still be helpful for anyone who encounters her to be aware that she may exhibit some unusual behaviors.

Article said she was last seen hitchhiking, could be out on the road with a trucker. However we know these stories rarely end good.

Many times they say Mental Health issues if there’s a passed drug addiction also VS saying addiction issues.

Thanks, I missed that. This isn't good at all. :(
It isn’t good and definitely a woman her age knows better! In no way victim blaming but why put yourself in danger. I feel bad for the daughter, who I’m sure is feeling guilty. My mother used to take the train back and forth to visit me years ago from RI to Pa I would wait till the train arrived and literally walk her on the train.
