In an odd coincidence, Gabriel Gaeta has a new attorney. Her first name is Jeniece.

I wonder why these competency evaluations keep being cancelled. Is GG still not able to cooperate? Or is it due to having a new attorney and strategy?

According to Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Scott Wilson the second competency exam was canceled for undisclosed reasons. “We really are no different than we were at his first court appearance on August 11,” said Wilson.

They answered this in the Kitsap Sun article. They keep updating the article, so you probably missed it. There's a backlog of people to evaluate and they're not sure how to house him since he's a juvenile. They're doing what they can in Bremerton but the IQ test has to be done in Steilacoom.

It was a head nod, not a statement, so I guess they're saying it's open to interpretation?

I totally understand why everyone's so frustrated with the delays and such. I'm right there with you. However, I'm telling myself that the Kitsap County prosecutor is just being extra careful with this case so nothing goes awry down the road. With it being such a high-profile case, with a young victim and juvenile accused, there's extra pressure to make sure all the i's are dotted and t's crossed. Nobody wants another Casey Anthony. Aren't competency evaluations standard in this type of case? It seems like they are here in Washington.

Thank you. It was reported that the evaluations were scheduled and cancelled. So I take it they were not really scheduled?

That is really odd. Neither Jenise or Jeniece have been in the Top 1000 for baby names in the past 100 years. In the year 2011, there were 28 babies born named "Jenise" and 6 babies born named "Jeniece".

It sounds like they might have been scheduled but then never moved forward because they didn't know where to put him. (Or his lawyer might have said, "You're not putting him in the adult section, are you?") Or maybe they were never scheduled. Your guess is as good as mine!
 
Maybe they had them scheduled, but then people got sick or went on vacation or the ones ahead of him took longer than they thought they would.
 
"In court Friday, prosecutors said there were problems getting Gaeta transported to Western State Hospital for the competency evaluation. The mental health facility didn’t have a bed for the 17-year-old, who is being charged as an adult. Both parties agreed to have Gaeta evaluated in the jail instead."

ETA:
"Gaeta will be arraigned on the charges next month after the results of the mental health evaluation. If he is convicted of the murder and rape charges, he could spend the rest of his life in prison."

According to this, he's still listed as "out to another facility". Next court date is October 3rd at 2:30 pm.

Not that it really matters much but King county is Seattle and Western State where he was due for his comp eval is Pierce county (greater Tacoma area). Just thought I'd clear that up for those not familiar with the area.

She has an office on Prospect which is in PO (literally right down the hill from the courthouse) which is also where both the KC jail is, and the KC juvenile facility is. So unless they just haven't updated, he's still being held at the juvenile facility on Old Clifton Rd.
