I've felt that Jenise didn't make it home Saturday night. If that is the case and the parents misled the police, for whatever reason, by claiming she was in bed at 10 pm, would they be in trouble for that?
Not blaming, just curious about the rules in that regard.
That would be up to the DA. I remember the mother that lied about the little redhead... whose uncle killed her..
Willow Long and Justin DeRyke
I think she was charged. Not sure if it was obstruction of justice...

I am gonna guess no.

With a DNA match, innocent until proven guilty is a done deal. IMO
Judge should sign papers and gulity party should head straight to prison. there is no innocent explanation. The only reason they don't imo is because the public want a trial to try and give the DP.
It's a waste of tax payers money imo.

"Although there can be a defense to DNA evidence such as mishandling or performing the test wrong it’s hard to refute the test results. If the justice system put in place a structured, secured method of testing and handling DNA evidence it could save taxpayers millions by shortening the trial process."

If your DNA is a match you are going down the hatch...

gngr,

I think we are all glad a suspect was caught. If the police have enough to say he is the suspect and arrest him for it, we can comment about him doing it. We don't have to say allegedly. I mean, Casey Anthony was proven innocent in a court of law and we still say she did it.
The jurors found her not guilty. She was not proven innocent. jmo

Are we allowed to post twitter posts here if it involves search warrant?

If it's the twitter of a reporter or news , yes. You can post the link to their page or the individual ' tweet'.

Have been trying to catch up here. So glad to see an arrest was made. I have to say a teen was not on my radar for the most part. The Father was. Kudos to those here who nailed it and LE for their job well done. Most importantly my heart aches for little Jenise and this horrific crime she endured. May Justice be swift.

My sister did this when she was 4 and I was one. My mom was in the checkout line and wouldn't get my sister candy, so she started with that noise and this well meaning woman tried to remove us from the cart. That went over like a pregnant pole vaulter...

This kinda happened to me the other day.. My oldest wanted a toy at the grocery store and I said no. He lost it and started yelling "help! Help! Help me!" Other moms were giving me silent nods of solidarity... We've all been there. Lol. The good news is, the stranger danger lessons seem to be soaking in, right?

My sister has five kids: 26, 21, 11, 9, 5. First two are girls, last three are boys, same dad for all. She is way more lax on the last one. She laughed about how paranoid she was regarding germs with the oldest that she would boil the pacifier if it fell on the ground and with the last, she just wiped it on her pant-leg. I think parents of many just realize that most worries don't come true and also rely on the older kids to keep the younger ones entertained. That brings a false sense of security.

I am the mother of five. Four daughters came first and then our youngest child is a boy. I cant say I raised them any differently. I know at times I smothered them by being overly protective. It was no different when it came to our son, which he turned out to be the easiest to raise, btw.:D I regret some of the hovering I did back then and have apologized to them since they are all grown now. They all know I was abused as a child by my own father on a daily basis from the age of 5 (that I can remember) until almost 16. Now that they are older they understand why I did the things the way I did when raising them.

It wasn't that I didn't trust them because all of them were really good trustworthy kids. I just didn't trust anyone else when I wasn't with them. In time I did learn to loosen up though and now I completely let them live their own lives without interference, and they are all happily married with children of their own, and have made great decisions as parents.

IMO

I was very busy with RL yesterday and didn't even know until this morning when my best friend emailed me that there had been arrest.

I am not surprised in the least at the perp's age. I think many of us expected the perp to be a teen who lived in the park and one Jenise trusted.

Whether the vehicle was used in the actual murder itself LE would still impound it to take it in to forensically test it. Since she was found so close to the park I don't think a vehicle was used. Now he may have driven the vehicle to discard his bloody/muddy clothes, shoes. etc. to hide them somewhere else. It will be interesting to learn where they think Jenise was murdered. Or that may have already been said because I haven't had time to read all of the articles yet. If it hasn't, imo, he either killed her inside of his home or lured her to an abandoned building or down in the wooded area where her body was located.

I am just so glad that an arrest has been made. LE was excellent on this case and moved quickly.

Now let justice be done for Jenise.

As for being charged as an adult, I could see it going either way. There qas a case that is local to me- Erick smith murdered Derrick Robie- he was charged as a juvenile but at that time there was a 9-life sentence available for juveniles for 2nd degree murder in NYS.

What he did was terrible. I still shudder to think of the details of that case. Poor little Derrick Robie. :(

Wow! Was that also the car that they were interviewing the woman and the male driver? I couldn't tell.
I bet he was all over that complex trying to get info.

You mean the male driver with long sleeves on?

Surely if this suspect is 17 they will try him as an adult.

I would hate to see him tried in juvenile court and get out at either 18 or 25.

That is just not a justifiable sentence imo for murdering a child of 6.

I sincerely hope he is tried in the adult court system.

IMO

Oh me too. I wonder if it makes a difference w what sentences are available for the crimes at a juvenile vs adult level. Like if he could get life in prison for the charges being charged as a juvenile, would that make it reasonable to charge that way?

In NY that isn't an option anymore so they now tend to charge heinous crimes committed by minors as adults

Ha! I'm still working with my daughter on what to do if a stranger tried to grab her. She wholeheartedly believed she is a horse, so of course she will just rear up and hit the person with her front hooves and begin really loudly. Sigh. She does neigh extremely loudly...

The first time I asked her what she would do if a stranger offered to let her play with some cute puppies and she said, "I would say no thanks, I have the cutest dogs in the world already." We got the Bearenstein Bears book about stranger danger after that!

Ehh, I mean the guy they arrested was probably allover the complex trying to get info. If he happens to be the same person as the driver, then yes. I think that may be the mother, but how many boys does she have? If that is not the 17 yo, then no, none of it applies.

That is a great book! I love bearenstein bears!

And we don't know what his motive was yet. They could file additional charges such as rape, imo.

I sincerely hope he is tried in the adult court system.

IMO

"He will be booked on charges of murder in the second degree, manslaughter in the first degree, and first degree rape of child. He will be help (sic) in juvenile custody, Smith said."
