Sadly,

This report posted on Reddit says that search dogs picked up a scent. But it stopped in the middle of the road. Leading LE investigators to believe that the boys got into a car and were killed by a perpetrator. If they would have fallen down a mineshaft, others believe that some evidence would have been found. Truly tragic.

I've been looking some images of the area on the Internet, but I'm not sure how this place really is. Is it possible to get trapped in a bunker? Is there any cave or tunnel that could have been flooded by the tide?

One would hope that LE would search the bunkers carefully & eliminate that possibility!

Yes, of course, but... could they have found a tunnel or something like that while they were exploring?
I know a case where a man disappeared while going potholing. As all the known caves have been checked and he remains missing, the main hypothesis is that he located a new cave and got lost. Is that an option here? Every bunker is located or some of them are covered by debris and from time to time someone says "Oh, look, a bunker!"?

I found a photograph of the area where you can see a tiny island with a small cave that appears to be flooded by the tide. I wonder if the boys died drowned while exploring this area.

I worked at Crescent Beach a few years ago and the current owner helped in this search. I can tell you with the tides that anything that goes in that water will wash up on the beach by the next low tide. I know they had divers in the kelp beds too, but the consensus around here was the boys were kidnapped while walking up the road towards the little grocery store that was at the end.

I have the case file and apparently most of it was lost and rebuilt in the 90s by our Sheriff as a cold case due to a childs mandible washing ashore out there in 1996. Oddly enough, it wasn’t linked to any of the boys missing in our area, and Im not sure if its ever been identified.

In the margins on one of the case files, the Sheriff noted that they had spoken to a man after the canine search led them to his property. At the end of the road connecting to the road the boys would’ve been walking on was one of the boys T-shirts. The canine used that to track the scent to this guys camp. He was a drifter, and that property was owned by a family that allowed a lot of squatters. It had quite a reputation.

I’ve only found one person with that mans name, and I don’t think it was the same person. if anyone has interest in looking into this, I’d be happy to email the case file.
