I wanted to thank each and every one of you who has shown love and care for Meshay and Layla. Emotions are very high right now, but this is the best case for Meshay's mother. That is who we all need to respect and honor, whatever she wishes, we will follow her wishes. He pleads guilty and she doesn't have to hear what he did in detail.

Like I said there is a lot of tension, a lot of high emotions, and a lot of blame being cast. (Laylas paternal father is casting a lot of blame and causing a lot of pain) We all need to remember the fault in this lies soley with three entities:

Kirkland Warren himself
The state of Arkansas
And the State of Washington.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, to pay attention to DV. Put your nose in where it doesn't belong. Be noisy. Look people up. Google that dude your daughter likes. Just pay attention. Her family did not know. He played up the square persona, when he was nothing but a predator.

And may everyone who loved them (I see you guys ) heal as much as they can.

I was so relieved to hear you say this, "...this is the best case for Meshay's mother." I was going to make a similiar comment but decided it wasn't appropriate for me to assume how she feels. So I've been waiting and hoping to hear this from you. Thank you, @AislingGray18, and (((hugs))).

Thank you. She has been vocal that if it were not her own girls, she could not handle the trial, and she understood if anyone could not be present for their own mental health. She is still looking out for others, she is a strong soul. We will all honor all her wishes when it comes to her girls.
He still has to face charges in Arkansas, and Meshay's mother is asking for thoughts and prayers to that victims loved ones as well. I don't know anything about the victim, but they have my thoughts and I hope they too, see justice.

In Arkansas, Warren was charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the Nov. 27, 2017, death of Curtis Urquhart, 57. He accepted a joint offer from the two states to plead guilty to the respective charges in exchange for the death penalty taken off the table in Arkansas and his sentence in Arkansas to run concurrent to his sentence in Washington. It is not clear when Warren will plead guilty to the charges in Arkansas, but he will do so through Zoom from Washington.

Warren will be sentenced in Washington on Oct. 8 and faces life in prison for the murder charges. According to the motion to plead guilty, the sentences must run consecutively.

Layla’s father, JS, who attended the hearing virtually, spoke of the pain of losing his child and her mother.

“The impacts of their deaths have left me and others here today struggling to find a way forward, and the grief is something I carry with me every moment of my life,” he said.

"I'm glad that he's getting a consequence but that will never amount to the pain and suffering that me and my family loved ones have felt since this all started," said RM, Meshay Melendez' brother.

“I can’t even get phone calls from Meshay to say, ‘I’m dropping off Layla’ or ‘I’m picking her up,’ said LG, Layla’s aunt. “I would watch Layla almost every weekend and when those weekends come back up, I don’t get to see her anymore.”

The judge said because Washington no longer has the death penalty, he could only sentence Warren to spend the rest of his life in prison.

I don't know how to put this, or even if I should, but please remove any mention of Layla's bio father. I beg you, do not give that man a platform. Please do not repost anything the Stewarts put out. I won't say more because it doesn't pertain directly to the case...but it does pertain to why Meshay was left vulnerable in the first place.

Out of respect for her mother, and other family who were actually there day to day, I gently request it. IDK I am probably out of line and if so i truly apologize.
If any Mods would like clarification, feel free to message me privately and I will explain the situation, with proof. And if I crossed any lines and needs to be deleted, I apologize. I am willing to explain what actually happened, and exactly how Clark County failed the girls.

ETA the community has come up with memorial shirts for sale, the profits go back to NWCAVE. The idea is to wear their photos and encourage dialogue about who they were, and how they are more than just a number. Every time someone orders one of the tees who isn't a local, it's like the girls get to tour the world.

I just ask if anyone wants to financially support, please focus on the non profits. TY

Just wanted to add that tensions are high locally. Since he pled guilty, a lot will never be known on more than a local level, please be empathetic with any posts or links to news articles you may find. Thank you
