Oh no worries. Here is the police flyer. The wording about the bag is kind of curious though - not sure how to interpret that.

http://www.robbsimmons.com/Flyer.pdf

The flyer was made after the van was found.

Don't you think it's a bit odd that Shantina's clothing is described, yet Azriel's is not? RS was in training scheduled from 8 am to 4 pm; he didn't indicate that he'd seen Shantina before they left but rather received phone calls from her. I suppose she could have told him what she was wearing during that call, but he never said anything about that (and he was very detailed in his timeline) and IMO that would be ... well ... weird. If he got her description of clothing from the security videos released, then why no description of Azriel? If he did see her as she was leaving town, where was Azriel? Why didn't RS just go along at that point?

Is this the timeline for travels? Weekend of Feb. 27th, trip to Castle Rock, met with JS.
Weekend of Mar. 6th, weekend trip to the Gorge. Weekend of the 12th, trip back to Castle Rock.

If he was going to spend the weekend, he'd have gone back Sunday night... and since he didn't, he needed clothes for Monday.

I don't see the issue.

We went to get a bit to eat, when I received a phone call from the Thurston County Sheriff’s office. The had found the Van. In a follow up call, they informed me that they had to pull it out of the bay at the end of a dead end road. I immediately headed up there and say the van. As many of you know, I usually have a camera on hand, besides being waterlogged, the van did have some damage, but no broken windows. There was no sign of Shantina or Azriel.

I spent about 6 hours on the location talking to the detectives. I left there around 5:30, and had to make numerous stops to field phone calls from numerous sources, including the media. I stopped at my childrens mother house to sit with them around 8:00pm.

I took that to mean he was back in Silverdale area. The time would be about right.

He says here he and his daughter headed to Olympia on Sunday.

He was on GMA 3/17 from Seattle area and in this interview, he indicates he was home on 3/16 too.

Would one need filed if they found the car as they did?

RS stated he contacted LE and apparantly was inquiring about possible accidents. Since the response at that time would have been none involving her or that vehicle, I could see them asking if he would like to file a missing persons report at that time. But, I have not heard that one was formally filed. I have not read when this call to LE took place, in any case, but I was thinking it may have been after calling her Grandparents and learned of their conversation.

BeanE and others have talked about possibly a physical reason for her behaviour that night. I wondered when RS and SS met, because of this:

I can't find anything definitive about when they met, the earliest photo I've found so far was in Oct '07. Could he have been talking about her in that post? If she did suffer from migraines, and she was stressed, that could very well be what was happening. Migraines can cause those symptoms (and more). That could also be why Azriel said his mommy hit her head--- he may well have interpreted "ow my head" as meaning she'd injured herself. If she did go down that dark road, she may have been looking for a dark place to curl up and ride out the headache.

They were together at least as early as October '07; I saw a photo dated from then.

If you look at her blog dated September 2008, they celebrated their anniversary which means they probably started their relationship in September of 2007. I had originally posted what I posted in response to someone posting a comment that RS made on a MS group regarding his girlfriend moving out in March of 2007. So, he was in a serious relationship up until then and then another serious relationship 6 months later -- just seems as if he moves fast -- controlling maybe? (not accusing)

Very good observation!!

Thanks.

I'd like to know when he posted his timeline and when those flyers went out (I remember reading he and friend (?) had made then up, just don't recall when) and when the first security videos came out.

I guess I could go back through the first thread and piece it together.

The flyer was put out on 3/15.

I remember now. Someone from this group (with ties to scouting) took RS's info and made the flyers for him. http://www.tcwesar.com/AboutUs.html

My understanding of the investigators' reasoning for that theory:

The dogs were unable to pick up any scent trail of either of them away from the van, so they surmise that the two went from the car into the water.

At the probable time that the van drove up to the beach and got stuck, it was low tide. If they had walked off then, I guess they should have been able to due to the low tide.

If they had waited (because they slept in the car), and awoke to the higher tide, they'd have to walk into water in order to try to escape the van.

So, probably no proof. Just a best guess, is my thought.

A question probably asked already, but here goes;

Would the dogs have gotten a scent if they got out of the van during low tide, and walk a long distance before exiting the area, thus when the water came in, it washed away any scent except at the exiting area, which they didn't find/

The stepdaughter gave the very clear impression that the dogs had a scent trail, but lost it. Is that fact?

Is there a link to LE stating there was never any scent found at all, or that they had a scent trail, but the dogs lost it? tia

My understanding was he went back home on Sunday to retrieve scent items. Came back down with daughter. Is this the case?

There is no stated time in media accounts of time LE was called to file an MPR, is there? Usually there is a 24 hr window that must pass beforehand but, when the vehicle was found, it was tag traced and matched to the earlier call. Is that the correct order of events?

bbm, that's strange b/c iirc, the stepdaughter was upset b/c LE was going through her stuff in the van, looking for a scent item. Perhaps my memory is bad, or they didn't find any so they had to go home to find something. idk.

If you right click on the flyer, it shows that it was created March 15 at 11:13 p.m.

lol thanks.

I finally figured that out. I edited above. I knew I'd read that these people had taken his info and made the flyers.

Heres the link that is where the comments section is what was referred to as in someone cried all the way home that day and for days after(because AZ was not taken out of SS custody).. its the 1st comment located under this story.

Wow, she sounds like a really great mother!

How long are people going to continue trying to make excuses for this woman? :banghead:
She was irresponsible, neglectful, and worse, far beyond just being an alcoholic.
Also, a lot of people keep talking about how smart she is/was. Why? Because she graduated from a medical coding course? I see an adult life filled with one bad choice after another, and a clear dependence on having a man in her life, even, it seems, at the expense of the safety of her child. *Sigh*

Rest in peace, Azriel.

Does anyone have the correct 46th St. S.E. location. Google maps give several possibilites for that. This would be the residence of last phone call. Just curious as to it's exact location on the map to track last path. TIA

I would search the resident's name, then grab the one on that street.

;)

p.s.
Ooops! Search using http://www.whitepages.com/5175, or any other people search engine...

from the linked article:
"the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office’s predominate theory — though not the only one — is that Smiley never got off the beach and wound up in the water, too. There were no sightings, and bloodhounds didn’t pick up scents away from the beach."

http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2010/mar/20/search-missing-island-lake-woman-pauses-weekend/#ixzz0ioxWCEPM

I am not aware of an article stating the dogs having a scent trail but losing it. Not that there isn't one, just that I haven't come across that info.

It sounds like they DID pick up scent on the beach, just not anywhere else? Meaning that they did walk away from the van at some point?

Could someone have driven onto that beach (followed them?), killing Azriel and taking Shantina?
