I think my first question is how Audrey knew 2 construction workers in Indianapolis well enough to go find them and meet up with them? And I'm wondering if she'd met them on the Greyhound bus and decided to leave with them.

I'm not totally convinced the husband is guilty in this case.

I suspect she probably intended to start a new life, but I don't think she necessarily intended to cut all contact with her family and children because she had been brave enough to file a domestic abuse report against her husband so that suggests she wasn't in such a state of fear that she wished to vanish.

If I had to guess I'd say she fell on hard times and perhaps fell in with the wrong crowd and her life came to a tragic end at some point. Perhaps the babysitter knew a lot more than she said. The fact that she may have been in the company of construction workers might be troubling in that her body may still be buried in some construction somewhere.

I attempted some searches by various combinations of her name and didn’t locate any likely matches in Indiana obituaries. I hope this is resolved someday.
